But they have no money to spend! Rinse and repeat.

12 rising to 17 is nothing. Marketing alone could recoup a fair whack of that.

I know you say you're not joking.... But are you? Player of the season in the Bundesliga. League and cup double winner, superb in both.

That still doesn't change anything.

Went out and bought last summer too. Doubt they're done yet. But yes no money.

they got that Benfica's mid as well?

Gaitan?? it's said in Portugal that he is already sold, but Benfica doesn´t confirm in order not to inflate the price of players they are interested in. Sooner or later it will be anounced.

Be interesting to know if Kagawa or Hazard was first choice for United, either way I expect sadly both to excel next season.

Fuck that I only check out players we have got in the transfer window. Why would I want to check out a ManU player there will be plenty of wanking by Sky next season without having to check him out.

He's too lightweight for the league too.  Don't believe the hype about Kagawa anyways, same thing with Hazard.

More of a hole type player. I think they might of had Gotze occupied less centrally so Kagawa could play in his best position but I may be wrong.

For marketing alone, he'd be a success. Still wish we could get Keisuke Honda.

People keep spouting stuff like this but I've seen no evidence to back it up. Surely if signing these Asians lads was so lucrative there'd of been more than one big club in for a player like Kagawa?

Ticks pretty much every box, this transfer:

- Young
- Technically brilliant
- Quick
- Probably not on huge wages
- Massive marketing appeal in Asia

Most annoying.  The only bright side is that I can't see where he fits in their team, unless he's going to play out wide, which isn't his strongest position.  If they play him through the middle, what happens to Welbad and Hernandez?

Yeah, I'm like that with Neymar. Haven't seen much of him but the hype is ridiculous. Plus people are saying he needs to do it in Europe to prove he's one of the best in the world. We'll see in Poland and Ukraine.

Would love it if we did. Honda is head and shoulders the best player to come out of Japan since Nakata. Reminds me of Bergkamp.

Speaking of Bergkamp and the fact I can't be arsed makin/findin a thread. He's favourite for the Swansea job now I read on Twitter. Be interesting that one if it happened.

That's Park served his purpose for marketing in Asia then!

Genuine question. I have seen this said often and have thought of it myself but surely any impact Park would have had would be only/mainly in South Korea right? I mean what would a chinese or malaysian care for Park? If I may use an analogy for example just because the dallas mavericks/NBA have Dirk Nowitzki doesn't make them (Mavs/NBA) any more popular in Spain or England for example does it?

Surely signing Kagawa only increases their popularity/commercial benefits/actual money from Japan?

Any asian friends like to chime in? I am Indian myself and do feel good about a fellow asian making it good but I am not going to buy Honda's jersey if  he came.

Speaking later on Tuesday, Kagawa told Kyodo News after training with his national team ahead of games against Jordan and Australia: "The transfer is not complete for the time being. I have yet to sign the contract.

"The team and I are fully concentrated on the next two games. It's better if we talk about (the transfer) after those matches. I want to focus on playing well over the next few weeks."

Any asian friends like to chime in? I am Indian myself and do feel good about a fellow asian making it good but I am not going to buy Honda's jersey if  he came.

I can help answer that.

There are two tiers to this.

first, he (any asian player) has to become a starter.
second, if he becomes a star, there are indeed commercial benefits.

Linsanity created an unprecedented impact in Taiwan and China, even though he barely lived there in Taiwan. China is even less relevant a link if we are being honest, only that they insist Taiwan is part of China. But we have to understand that before he became a starter, there wasn't any slightest interest. Now, though, he has performed very well (tier two), and iirc Forbes have already valued him as much as Kobe Bryant in terms of brand value.

the same applies to a Korean representing a Premier League club. But the commercial part is not guaranteed. That has got to be with personal appeal as well. So basicallly, it isn't as straightforward.

We are also not privy to the contract terms, but i'd imagine the mancs would want a percentage of his endorsements.
