Napoli and Villareal both showing a lot of interest in Lucas, as well as other clubs. No sign of a contract extension as yet, perhaps it's all a bit late in the day.  :-\

Lucas's position is definatly one of the ones under threat, inorder for us to move forward and continue to improve - he will have to go.

i admire his committment and he seems like a decent chap, but in terms of top class football....no thanks  :wave

people mention that he is a brazilian international, however he plays in nonsense friendlies and looks no closer to being regularly in their squad let alone first team starter.

i dare you to try and name a worse player for us who has reached 152 apperances.

Lucas has shown improvement, but he is poor under pressure, gives away sill free kicks and is not shown that he has the potential to be at a level that is needed.

hate the way carragher never trusts lucas with the ball. couple of times yesterday lucas was asking for it, carra ignored him and went long. does me head in.
Yeah I noticed that as well and SG has done that on more than a few ocassions over the last 12 months but he is gradually changing his ways.

Funnily enough, percentage wise he's liked more in here than he is at the match, though he was despised in equal amounts not to long ago.

Well if he's played 152 games, maybe he does have qualities he brings to the team?

Lucas has shown improvement, but he is poor under pressure, gives away sill free kicks and is not shown that he has the potential to be at a level that is needed.

He's excellent under pressue, rarely gives away silly free kicks and is playing at the level good enough for a top side. Even his performance yesterday, which wasn't his best, should be enough to show you that he's hardly does any of those things you've mentioned.

If lucas were to get another number he it should only be a first team number. No 14 or 15 or whatever. He either gets 6 or stays with 21.
As stated above, he is his own player and has done exceptionaly well to improve as much as he has and deserves to recognized with his own number of a first XI number of deep lying midfielder. I would love him to get #6.

In my head, the First XI numbers are like

    1
2 4 5 3
7 6 8 11
   10
    9

I think gerrard and raul are classic number 8s. Lampard wuold also be in that mould. But The number 6 is more defensive and I think Lucas deserves it completely.

This isn't only your opinion though, like him or not, using him only playing "non-sense" friendlies being no where near a regular starter is a weird stick to beat him with, when the current manager has said he is one of the key players he wants to build his team around.

I'm not saying he is world class, but the mindset of some people here boggles me. First impressions seem to last a tad too long for my liking.

some people would rather just follow the trend and use him as a scapegoat than actually study the games and formulate their own opinion. Lucas has been excellent this season and was man of the match yesterday

The thing with Lucas is that he does not have a flashy tackle to show the fans unlike mash or Gerrard, but what we fail to see is how well he is positioned and gets in there and nicks the ball off.

The other thing is his composure on the ball (sometime he does get overpowered, like the Drogba incident) but you can t say he is POOR because of one incident.

Looking at the passing stats(guardian chalkboards) from Chelsea game, he had 40 successful passes compared to 5 unsuccessful ones; and he was playing quite deep as well.

Looking at the tackles, he went in for 13 and won 7 while loosing out 6

Compare that to Mikel, who had one tackle to show for; similarly Essien went in on 9 and won 6 of them (most of them (4) were in the flanks, so it could be throws, and runs which are easier to cover for). Lucas tackles were very central.

Looking at interceptions made, Liverpool made 26, 5 were made by lucas in the DM area. mikel had 1 and Essien 1

Lucas conceded 2 freekicks the whole match, one at the centre circle and the other just outside the box late on.

So, you can analyse urself what Lucas brings in

Well, then you obviously never saw Dalglish manage a club before.  Nobody is indispensable, I assure you that.  He'll make whatever changes need to be made to get us playing a certain way.  If that means Lucas goes, so be it.

Chelsea game at Anfield was one of the better games that Lucas had

He won 5 freekicks and conceded 1

out of 33 passes attempted, 26 were made and 7 were unsuccessful

He went on to tackle 14 times, winning 9 and loosing 5, he made 3 interceptions as well.

Interesting. I know that different countries have different numbering systems. So would the number 6 be a CB? I know that a lot of CBs wear numbers 4, 5, 6 while DMs and CMs wear 4, 6, 8.

For me, I think it would be nice show of faith, (not that he needs one), by giving him a first team number. Thinking from his standpoint, He may want to stay with 21 because he has come so far in it but I think it would be a great honour for him to wear the same number that the Likes of Alan Hansen and Emlyn Hughes wore.

He has proven a lot of people wrong but not all yet. Still a mate of mine a very good red starts texting me its all Lucas fault when we start to lose and goes all quiet when we win. People who understand or tend towards typical Roy Hodgson/ Mick McCarthy/ Sam Allardyce football will not rate him. They need people with passion (read ridiculous tackles, scaring people off, being on Referees tits all the time badmouthing etc.)

Of course, he isn't an every game starter yet (Masch/ Xabi/ Essien/Keane/ Scholes) and there are doubts he will reach that level. He is an all round midfielder with not a single aspect of hiss game very very good, kinda jack of all trades. He often misses very easy goalscoring chances. If he scores like a 3 to 4 goals every season people will like him more I guess.

Having said that, if you look at the Diaby's Denilson's Carrick's Anderson's Song's Fletcher's Mikel's and a lot of CM's I would definitely keep Lucas. No reason to flog him off. Keep him, give him a new contract see how he progresses, I am sure, we will get two more CM's in coming years and how he competes with them will then decide his future. Even after 3-4 years I am sure we will get as much as we paid for him minimum, although as I said, like every midfielder he needs a month or two to shine very brightly, kinda like Raul is right now.

What are his assists like in last 3 seasons?

You don't see Aurelio being here much longer? He's recently re-signed with us after he was let go in the summer, so yes I can see him being here quite a bit longer otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to bring him back, and personally Aurelio was my preferred left back until Dalglish's new 3 defenders/2 defensive wingers system.

The old numbering system goes back to the 235 formation.

11. Outside left

In an English 442, 5 and one of 4 or 6 drops back to join the left and right backs, who are shoved out to the flanks. The other goes to midfield, or the old half position, joined by 8. 10 is the second forward. In the Brazilian numbering system, I think it's 4 and 6 who drop back, with the old centre half position staying in its place as the back end of the midfield. This is the role Lucas plays, so, far from being an unBrazilian player, he is actually a very traditional Brazilian player, albeit of a type which isn't often noticed.

You don't see Aurelio being here much longer? He's recently re-signed with us after he was let go in the summer, so yes I can see him being here quite a bit longer otherwise they wouldn't have bothered to bring him back, and personally Aurelio was my preferred left back until Dalglish's new 3 defenders/2 defensive wingers system.

I can see him being here for the 11-12 season, but that's it.  He's already what, 31?  Doesn't really fit into FSG's plans.  He only re-signed with us because we couldn't find a LB we could afford anywhere else (besides Konchesky, and we all know how that ended up...).  I don't think he's terrible, no, but I'd rather plan Johnson there than him at this point.

Lucas's position is definatly one of the ones under threat, inorder for us to move forward and continue to improve - he will have to go.

i admire his committment and he seems like a decent chap, but in terms of top class football....no thanks  :wave

people mention that he is a brazilian international, however he plays in nonsense friendlies and looks no closer to being regularly in their squad let alone first team starter.

i dare you to try and name a worse player for us who has reached 152 apperances.

Lucas has shown improvement, but he is poor under pressure, gives away sill free kicks and is not shown that he has the potential to be at a level that is needed.

obviously this is only my opinion

Is that your "evidence"? Really? How can you claim to understand football if you do not see what a player like Lucas brings to the side?
If H&G told me the time, I'd check me watch at least 3 times.. twice to see they was telling the truth, and once to see if they'd stole it.

Count me in as one of those who hated Lucas until this season.  Probably been our best player this year, all things considered.  I hope he's here for 10 more years!

Fair play. It takes a lot of guts to admit you were wrong. It would be great if other supporters were like you and actually had an open mind towards all our players, instead of banging on about how shit some lad is because they made their mind up about him two years ago and don't want to lose face in front of their like-minded mates.
