I'd rather have Paul Dalglish than Roy Hodgson.

Are you misunderstanding the point on purpose?

Having watched almost all of Dalglish's home games as player and Manager (and Keegans) I was aware of their respective playing and managerial records.

The comparison is that Keegan was brought back by an inexperienced  Newcastle Board in an attempt to curry favour with the fans, despite the fact that Keegan had been out of management for some time. The comparative managerial records are not the issue.

yeah but it was working!!
keegan was doing well even in his second spell, he fell out with wise, thats why he went, it wasnt because of results.

What about putting Kenny together WITH Roy till the summer?

What - joint management as in Houlier and Evans ?

Nah - wouldn't work .

He should only take over as a short-term appointment  for the remainder of the season. The club should be looking in the summer for a young innovator, who can develop youth and produce an organized, well-rounded football philosophy. Emery or Klopp come to mind.

Would anyone here have Keegan as caretaker? He is a playing legend here and understands the club and plays attack-minded ball.

What would be the point?

Just complicates matters further, delays the inevitable decision that will have to be made.

It didnt work with Houllier and Evans, it most certainly wouldnt work here in this instance.

Keeping Hodgson on in any capacity would be madness

you are right, a stranger to the club might not get the support in the begining, kenny would get it immediately, regardless of what Roy thinks i believe we have the players in place to make this season a much better one than we can see right now.
I agree with you Vic, we do have the players, we have a team that's more than capable of getting into the top 5 or 6, maybe even the top 4 it's not too late, yet, we just don't have the players that fit Mr Blips tactics. Get him out and get Kenny in till the end of the season and get the lads playing footie again and not this backward let's see who can kick it the farthest and highest footie we're playing now.

Why wait until the summer? I think it would be better to bring in a long term replacement now, would give them the rest of this season to evaluate the current squad and not have another season of rebuilding next season.

As with players, it's difficult to recruit top quality in the middle of the season. It would be unlikely that a top candidate would want to leave his side midway through the season. Why for instance would Jurgen Klopp want to leave Dortmund whilst they are cruising at the top of the Bundesliga? Or Emery want to leave Valencia whilst they are likely to progress into the knock-out stage of the CL?

Totally agree mate.

How long that support would last, and whether Kenny could produce that improved performance is the unknown. I think that it could work, but fail to see why we should not move for a permanent solution immediately.
There doesn't seem to be any jump out names who are available at the moment to be considered a "permanent solution immediately" for my liking.
The next manager we employ, if we're looking long term will be a massive decision to the powers that be.

I think he can still do a good job and I think that with the ego's and poor attitudes we have in the squad, it will take a manager and person of his standing and reputation in order to bring them in line.

Very much doubt anyone would be stupid enough to challenge Dalglish. Even Gerrard, Reina, Carragher and Torres would lose that fight.

Maybe we should be approaching some of the managers we want and making 'inquiries' instead of sitting back and waiting for someone to get the bullet.

Like with Roy.

Because it  was a populist move, with little footballing rationale, to bring back a man who had been out of the game, to galavanise support by a Board with little footballing knowledge.

It's pretty much a case study in the wrong man for the right reasons.
Wheren't Newcastle in a relegation battle and he managed to finish the season in 12th ?

Like I said, the next "long term" target will be a massive decision.
Why rush into going for someone who will be with another club at the moment, when we could appoint Kenny for at least the rest of this season, see how he goes and look at the options in the summer?

'Twas a joke Tel.

The point about Keegan is fair.
Personally I would like if Dalglish stood in but agree that it would be enormous and fraught with legaend sapping danger.
I loved Souness, but it seems like it's ok not to like him know.

I have a feeling that many of the fans who chanted don't necessarily want Dalglish as manager, but he is a figurehead who can be seen as the "anti Roy" in that he wanted the job in the summer, he is at the club now, he could do a short term job for us.

If fans started chanting for the manager they really want then you could end up with 10 different names being sung at once which would sound ridiculous. By chanting Dalglish then it unifies everyone in their desire to remove the current manager and replace him with someone who they feel would be better suited. It is also a good alternative to "Hodgson out" which I am sure many fans are scared to chant for fear of being labelled by the press. Even though its what they all want, its not the Liverpool way to demand the managers head. Chanting Dalglish is probably the next best thing to this though.
