Question for those that are some way into the game.
Are all of the cases around the same length? So far i've done 6 or 7 cases, and all have been about the same time. Are there a few that actually take a long time? I'm thinking of cases that affect the the whole city and take a lot longer to solve, in terms of gathering all the evidence, going to extra locations etc....
Would be a nice touch.
I didn't pay attention to the length of every single case in the beginning, but I found by the end most cases were taking me well over an hour to solve. Usually 80/90 minutes if I didn't suck too hard. Some cases moved a bit faster than others but I think a lot of that, too, was my deciding to follow up one lead rather than another and having it lead to something substantial. The first arson case was actually probably the one that took me longest, because you don't really know what you're looking for and it's hard to notice stuff amongst the wreckage. Sometimes I was just walking around mashing X until I found something.
It definitely does depend what you do, though. On one homicide case we rounded up a suspect and had two places left to investigate. I chose to hit one and wound up finding our man. So I never got to find out what happens at the other place and I never interviewed the suspect we took to the station (which cost me on my final case ranking, for leaving him waiting scared in a cell). If you were to take the time to go and question him first, obviously it's going to slow you down a bit, just by virtue of talking to him.
