Absolutely loving this, the only problem for me, is that unlike GTA or Red Dead, it is hard to define a point in which you can say "Ok, enough is enough for one session, will turn it off now."  I think it would be better if you could have a house, and go to the Police Station to start a case, rather than all the cases bouncing off the back of eachother.  Also, I forget who it was that said you can't run people over, apparently you can, oops.  I cause shitload of damage when I am on cases too!

Its stupidly difficult to put down as there's never a lull between cases. I'm so pissed off with myself that I've gotten through so much of it. It's an amazing game so far and I'm already looking forward to additional cases/desks being made available as DLC. Rockstar said they left out 2 or three case desks and they might release them later.

This. It doesn't help that each new case is pretty engaging as well. I meant to stop three hours earlier than I did last night, but just kept on trucking. You can quit in the middle of a case and not lose your progress (I had to do that when Cole got stuck between rubble on an arson case and without an actual jump button there was no way out), but there's no real point unless you've just been assigned a new case that you would ever feel comfortable leaving for the day. This coupled with my apparent lack of a life lead to me clearing the main cases/storyline just now.

Really is a brilliant game though.

Amazing. Simply fucking amazing. I'm really not that far into it, but I can't put it down. The facial animations, the atmosphere, the cases, the people, everything. It's fucking amazing.
And when you find yourself along the untrodden path
Remember me with a smile, a drink, a gesture or a laugh
And a toast for the man who loves every hour of every day
And a feast for the friends and faces met along way

Played yesterday why are people moaning that it is not free roam?  You are assigned a mission and then can free roam from there. I spent over an hour just doing the side missions to get XP and finding the secret cars.

The map is MASSIVE!

So anyone have a good guide on this? I read something on reddit, which doesnt include spoilers, that says:

Try and interview witnesses before suspects, so you have all the info you may need......

Good tip, helped me out on one of my cases.

Hmmm okay this is bollocks. It's concerning the homicide case "The Golden Butterfly" so if you haven't done it then don't read the spoilers.

I like it when you get promoted and you become kind of famous with people saying "Isn't that the cop who solved the case and got promoted" Nice touch.

Question for those that are some way into the game.

Are all of the cases around the same length? So far i've done 6 or 7 cases, and all have been about the same time. Are there a few that actually take a long time? I'm thinking of cases that affect the the whole city and take a lot longer to solve, in terms of gathering all the evidence, going to extra locations etc....

Would be a nice touch.

I didn't pay attention to the length of every single case in the beginning, but I found by the end most cases were taking me well over an hour to solve. Usually 80/90 minutes if I didn't suck too hard. Some cases moved a bit faster than others but I think a lot of that, too, was my deciding to follow up one lead rather than another and having it lead to something substantial. The first arson case was actually probably the one that took me longest, because you don't really know what you're looking for and it's hard to notice stuff amongst the wreckage. Sometimes I was just walking around mashing X until I found something.

It definitely does depend what you do, though. On one homicide case we rounded up a suspect and had two places left to investigate. I chose to hit one and wound up finding our man. So I never got to find out what happens at the other place and I never interviewed the suspect we took to the station (which cost me on my final case ranking, for leaving him waiting scared in a cell). If you were to take the time to go and question him first, obviously it's going to slow you down a bit, just by virtue of talking to him.

Just spent an hour on a leisurely drive across the map to look for the Hollywoodland sign, the city is fucking enormous!

The attention to detail is staggering in places, don't think I've ever played in such a well realised city. Just the little touches like some clothes shop have revolving displays in their windows.

You really have to love some of the smaller touches they put in the game, like with the radio. They don't just play songs from that era, like a lot of games set in the 40s and 50s would do, but songs which would have actually been receiving airtime. I was also just driving around in free-roam and an episode of the Jack Benny Program came on.

I was going at speed with siren blaring and a woman walked out in front me. Death by cop. I drove through a train tunnel and the siren echoed which was a nice touch. I also recommend driving through a newspaper vending machine for the explosion of paper. Or maybe I'm easily pleased.

Can't get in to the vice cases at all. The homicide ones were much better.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.
