Well I just spent basically my entire day playing this. Three times I said "Getting tired. Wrap this up and then go to bed" but then I kept going and going and going. Finally turned it off when I got promoted again.

Also have yet to do any of the side missions. Started one but failed it and decided to go back to the case at hand.

All in all it really is a fantastic game though.

Great game, love the way you're left to your own devices in the investigations and interviews, repeated a few missions and tackled them differently each time. The graphics are insane at the crime scenes and locations of interest. Mrs Black's house and garden looks phenomenal.

At first i was slightly annoyed with the lack of freedom to roam the city, and the city itself does seem slightly bland (so far), but what team bondi have done is take portions of the map that are included in the story and polish them to a ridiculous level, not very far myself but i couldn't get over how nice the graphics and animations were.

All things considered I'm loving it so far, even if my 60gb PS3's fan is doing its best to put me off.

Won't be buying this because i prefer it to be like GTA. Small things i know but being able to run people over would add to it. I'm hoping they make all their games like they are now but with all the side features you expect in a free roam game. Basically just GTA set in a different time and with a different protagonist, this time a cop. Essentially it is but without the full features which ruins it a little.

I've been watching the walkthrough and the missions look really good.

I hear what you're saying, but if you could just shoot and kill people like in GTA it wouldn't really work with the cop angle!

Would be completely the wrong fit for this game. It's all about story, so no need for any of that other tedious "open world" time wasting type shite.

And why would a cop be driving around running over people? How does that add anything?

I think you'll be able to have your pick of a lot of second hand copies of this in a couple of weeks. A lot of people are going to hate this if they're expecting a 'GTA: LA Confidential'.

While there is a giant open city to explore, the game constantly discourages you from mooching about and guides you back into the story. You're never 'off' a case or job like in GTA. You can't even draw your gun unless you're being shot at. The character you play is such a straight shooter/square that bombing around and murdering pedestrians wouldn't be right anyway. It makes a refreshing change from the now very boring 'maverick cop who doesn't play by the rules' type. It’s nice to have a strong character who feels rounded and real rather than the usual video game 'blank slate' main character.

That said, I'm really loving it so far, the experience of playing it is fairly engrossing, and the world that is created feels real and expansive and detailed. The presentation of the period detail is absolutely gorgeous in places, even the main menu looks great.

The facial expressions system is truly amazing and groundbreaking. Once you get used to it, you really can tell if someone is bullshitting you just by a couple of subtle facial tics. That along with the crime scene stuff and how you have to use your brain and actually deduce things makes for a fairly unique gaming experience... something that is rare as rocking horse shit in video games.

Think you have to purchase another game in the PS3/XBOX360 chart to get it for £25

Hope so. It should be patched by then to stop the freezes

Most of the problems seem to be on the PS3's, the really older fat models. Got a PS3 Slim in Feb so i should be ok, just want to wait till its fully patched first. A patch is due to be released within days, but only addresses any gameplay bugs apparently. These freezes might be restricted to the NA versions only though.

I am playing it on an original 60GB PS3 and have had no issues. Lucky, I suppose.

I plan on trading this in in a couple of weeks to fund inFamous 2.

I hear what you're saying, but if you could just shoot and kill people like in GTA it wouldn't really work with the cop angle!

Hadn't thought of that but then if you travel around with a partner maybe he arrests you at the first sign of a crime you commit. The thing with the cop angle is you have to get in all angles. Don't know enough about the game yet but can you get praised for stopping a crime? or get promoted through the police ranks? At the same time if you commit a crime you get demoted and have perks taken away i.e you get your gun taken away or the use of a police car.

Therefore you would be allowed to truly free roam and go on a rampage if you want but it would really ruin you. When it comes to committing crimes you shouldn't be able to go and rob a store or work for a mob, thats going into GTAs area but just small things, really just the whole running over thing or shooting the wrong person. Therefore if you actually do make a mistake like that it will screw you over.  I guess a lot has to be put in for it to work properly so the easier option was to just not let you run anyone over.

Would be completely the wrong fit for this game. It's all about story, so no need for any of that other tedious "open world" time wasting type shite.

And why would a cop be driving around running over people? How does that add anything?

Thats just one of the things, i just think the little things add to a better game. If you are creating a world like they have then every little thing counts. The story definitely sounds interesting and at the very least i'll be keeping up with the walkthrough on youtube. When they've already built a game with the same engine which doesn't have these limits it feels as if this game is not up to it. The thing is in real life a cop could go round and run someone over, they could shoot someone and all that. Thats why i feel it should be added. Since you are always with a partner (i think) like i mentioned above, one little step out and he will bring you down so you lose your gun or get demoted to doing a day of traffic duty or something. Just adds to it.

Good deal that.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

So you shoot and kill a random and get a demotion for a day? That would be ridiculous.

And it wouldn't end there, people would run over or kill anything that moves. Then what? You get a week off from your job and a slap on the wrist? The city would love that. A nutter cop who goes out killing and maiming everything in sight, gets a week off, and is then back on his job.

People just don't seem to understand that this isn't GTA. Quite why I do not know.

It's easier when you play, I suppose, learn of his background etc.

Can you imagine hunting down a serial killer in this who has a body count of 10 while you've murdered 50 people yourself? Talk about pulling you out of what they are trying to achieve.
