Agreed, was being sarcastic. He has probably been better defensively if anything. The fullbacks are both in fine form.

Sorry then mate xD agree, Since Kenny Took over our fullbacks have improved dramatically but I'm actually excited to see how it will be next season, Kelly will be right back that is almost impossible to be otherwise but what about glen? Will they keep him on the left or sell him and replace him?

Anything more that 6m for Joe Allen and we have been ripped off.

Loads of Joe allens out there.

I would like to see him stay at Swansea myself and see if he can have another decent season. He is a championship player - players like a championship player.

Kelly needs to be played at CB imo. Skrtel and Carragher together are an abysmal partnership, both incredibly jittery. The best thing about Kelly, is how calm and collected he is. Playing him with either Carragher or Skrtel would have given us some composure in defence and allowed us to play Glen at RB.

He's doing so well I'm not sure it's wise to move him out of RB at this juncture. For one, keeping him at RB means we have an 'extra' (alongside CBs) tall lad who can defend set pieces, plus because of his size and heading ability he'll rarely get beat in the air from diagonal balls designed to put pressure on the RB position - a tactic many teams employ against backs, eg ashley cole, great leftback but can be got at in the air from diagonals into his position, bains the same etc

Although it might limit him, I'd be interested to see him central paired with Agger with Glen at rightback and a quality left in there. Otherwise I could see it stay the way it is. I think Glen is still adjusting offensively with the position. His crossing from the left hasn't quite been right and he seems more reluctant to use his left than when he played right. I wouldn't put the full-back position high on the summer transfer priority though. Someone solid like Arbeloa who could fill in on either side would be nice though. A reliable ball playing central defender would be higher I think.

I can't see Johnson being sold and I can't see him being kept on the left as he hinders the attacks there.
Kelly can play centre back, so I see no reason him playing there next season with Johnson back on the right. I reckon Fabio Coentrao will be our new left back.

Johnson-----Kelly-----Agger/Skrtel-------Coentrao

However, I don't know if Kenny will think Kelly will be ready to be a permanent fixture at centre back as he is still inexperienced. One thing is for sure, I am looking forward to seeing what defenders we will buy in the summer!

I think he should be moved to the centre to partner Agger. We buy a quality, young left back like Coentrao or Cissokho in the Summer, and move Johnson back to right back. Konchesky is sold and Insua is brought back as left back cover. Carra and Kyrgiakos are phased out over the next couple of years, because of their age.

I agree longer term, CB is a better idea for Kelly. But at the moment, he's a boss RB, we should keep him there as no winger is getting past him.

I agree with your plan though, a LB or a commanding CB (which could be kelly) would improve our team. I'd phase out Carra, but sell/free Kyrgiakos.

Read a cracking thing today about Kelly. Something about sports writers all across Europe put together a team of the month at the end of every month, or a 'squad' (something like that).
The only English player to be picked, out of 60 players, on performances, average marks etc, was Kelly.

If this lad was playing for Arsenal or United, he'd be getting massaged by the press daily. I think he's been brilliant.

Really impressed me this season. Thought he was fantastic on his debut, nobody expected him to play against Lyon, but he was sensational. Just a shame he got those injuries last season, I'm sure he'd have played more. I have high hopes of this lad, think he could be a top player for us for a long time. He seems comfortable enough now.

I think i speak for everyone here but what a refreshing change to see a local lad come through the ranks and shove the england right back out of position. I see no reason why Johnson cant keep playing left back, i dont see why he would be that bothered about it? Makes no real odds at the end of the day.

I think we'll buy a left back like Coentrao or Jose Enrique and move Johnson to Right Mid.  I thought that it what they were looking to do in the January transfer window because we were looking at left backs and left wingers.

Certainly the best player to come through the academy in years and having a great first season but when the time is right, I'd like to see thid local lad moving into a central position and be a cornerstone the defence for years to come.

ATM, GJ is no1 right back, but if martin kelly continues to play the way he is, and GJ isnt playing in tha position week in week out, i cant see how capello can pick GJ for england at RB ahead of MK.

Not sure about that, Capello seems to play players in the position he sees right wherever they play for their club. Wilshere is a recent example of this. Who knows, he might see Kelly as a long term CB position just as he probably will with us as Carragher is slowly phased out. Either way this kid's got a really bright future ahead of him.

He has been outstanding for us and fully deserves all te praise he gets, and I think he will become a fantastic center back and hopefully will form a good partnership with agger over the next 18 months, the only surprise to me was his omission from the full squad for england( although I know he would have withdrawn through injury he fully deserved the recognition of a call up)

quite strange

I suspect it is down to a similar physique.

Kelly is pretty fast and very strong. If he comes up against a fast winger Kelly out-muscles him, if he comes up a big guy Kelly can outpace him.

Moses is both big and pretty quick, so there is no obvious solution.
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

It's only a matter of time before he gets his first cap.  I too have been really impressed with the lad.  I agree that if he can play CB, we should throw him into that position.  It's much more important to have a good CB than RB and while Johnson is doing okay at LB, you can see that it is seriously limiting his attacking play (i.e his attempt at crossing the ball with the outside of his right-foot against Wigan).

As for centre half talk. I'd keep him at right back for the time being. It's his spot to lose now.
