Fantastic result, three much needed points, hopefully confidence will grow and we can get another decent result against Napoli on Thursday.  We should not let the three points paper over the cracks however.  This was another poor performance and the team was once more set up in a manner which was an affront to the traditions of this football club. For Roy the clock is still ticking.

'Life it seems is not without a sense of humor' - a quote from the dreamlike world of the matrix.  I can't help but laugh at the irony of Carra' (a player who shouldnt have had a new contract ) playing fullback, a position he refused to play under Rafa. Giggle at the sight of Gerrard and Torres playing apparently without a plan. Then I wake up a cry when I realise this is what the local scouse leaders wanted. They wanted someone to appease them, while aping Rafa's formation, but not understanding why it worked. Welcome to the world of management light. Monkey see, monkey do, but monkey no understand.
Torres only worked as a lone striker because the entire team was designed to play further up the park with tactics designed to feet the ball to him (Torres) while he's in a dangerous attacking position. It also helped that we had a great manager and one of the best soccer "quarterbacks" ever! Someone who knew his best position and played in it with discipline and class.

Goodbye & thank you Rafa. You've given us more than we ever had a right to expect from you and you stayed loyal and fought for us even when some of our own turned on you. I truly hope that you find somewhere with the support that you deserve & win everything in sight.

I honestly don't think that good results, excepting a winning run of which I believe Roy is entirely incapable, will make much of a difference to that.  So all a defeat achieves is a worse situation for the next manager to inherit or even worse a panic new appointment.  So on that basis there is no upside to a defeat.

Very good point.  Roy can still be sacked even with a mediocre, as opposed to poor (relegation), point total.  I have a feeling these owners will not be satisfied with mediocre results.  We do not have to be in relegation for him to be sacked, so let us root for as many points as possible.

I forgot to add to this last time.

Europe follow USA sports a lot more than we do and I am guessing that both players and agents will know, and agents may even have had dealings with companies belonging to NESV in the past so that's on our side. They know how they operate and many players will have seen the affects themselves through either the NASCAR team or the Red Sox.
Another plus for us is the lack of debts, players want stability too as well as money especially if they have families.
And another plus is the fact that we are still Liverpool Football Club. Man Utd have shot themselves in the foot with the Rooney deal and players are wary of their debts, and other clubs are either too reluctant to buy or pay stupid money for players. I think now, or in the next year is the perfect time for us to chase players because we are going to be a club on the up while many throughout Europe will be on the way down.

In that respect your right, financially we are hopefully sorted. It's just for £20 million you can't get alot these days and although I don't want to slag the manager off, it's him who worries me when it comes to buying young talented players who have the potential and we may get at a good price.

Reading the owners recent comments though it's sounds that's exactly what there looking to do, invest in young potential which sounds good to me?

He wasn't great but he was still a hell of a lot better and a lot more influential than Stevie who's pass completion was absolutely woeful today. The side is so imbalanced it's untrue.
We get it, you don't like Stevie. Get a new angle ffs

So what do you sugest then Jez, shall Roy drop him? Or maybe put him up for transfer, Nando has shown us he's the best on his day he hasn't lost that he just needs to get the confidence to get that form back, I'm not getting into this now, maybe tomorrow but for now now Im off good night all.
What he needs is to have a bloody good talking with himself. If he's not unfit or injured then there is little excuse for making so many schoolboy errors. If it's lack of form and confidence then we have to question the welfare team within the squad as well as the player. You always do your best for the team, if you cannot guarantee it do something about it for the sake of the team.
Nando showing us he's the best on the day is a fallacy because he does not do it often enough.
If things carry on then yes drop him and shove our top scorer this season in there, give him a wake up call and if he doesn't like it then he can either get his act together or he knows where the door is, simple. We cannot afford to pay a player on his wage and not get any consistancy or the performances we not only expect but demand.

It's been said before but it is worth repeating.  When they took over in Boston they sacked a Manager who was far more successful than Roy currently is.  I honestly believe that the only thing currently staying Roy's execution is the wait to get the correct football expertise installed at board level and for them to then select the new man.

Really? Because we counted once in the first half where he had the ball at his feet facing goal. On saying that, I fucked off for a pint at 40 mins and didn't go back up till 55, so what do I know?

If he had boss service in the last five mins of the first half, and the first ten of the second half, I apologise wholeheartedly. If not, bugger to you and a curse upon your ballbag.

Very good again VDM, despite having the chance to win 160 on the Bolton win, when Maxi popped up with the winner i cheered like any other Liverpool goal before, despite all the negativity amongst the fans, a win at Bolton is something you can only be happy about.

If you are saying that a win at Bolton is something to be happy about in the sense that every Liverpool win should make one happy, then I agree.  But if it is because you are saying that Bolton away is a difficult proposition for Liverpool, then I question those sort of expectations/ambitions.   For we have now won 4 straight away to Bolton.

2010-11:  Bolton 0 Liverpool 1
2009-10:  Bolton 2 Liverpool 3
2008-09:  Bolton 0 Liverpool 2
2007-08:  Bolton 1 Liverpool 3
2006-07:  Bolton 2 Liverpool 0
2005-06:  Bolton 2 Liverpool 2
2004-05:  Bolton 1 Liverpool 0
2003-04:  Bolton 2 Liverpool 2
2002-03:  Bolton 2 Liverpool 3
2001-02:  Bolton 2 Liverpool 1

Bollocks, he had plenty of service today!

Depends on how you define service.  If hitting him with a heavy thirty yard pass while he has his back to goal, is marked by three players and does not have a team mate within 20 yards counts as service then you are right he had plenty.

Sorry, I thought people were adults on here. I assume I am wrong then?

VdM, it didn't happen all through the match, he still had plenty of the ball and players on hand to help him out but he didn't do much with it.
That's all I am saying.

I'm not saying Roy got it spot on, far fucking from it but I refuse to defend Torres when he made plenty of mistakes himself especially in the second half.

I didn't mention Gerrard simply because I wasn't talking about him but you're right he was bloody awful but Torres does it a lot more than people either realise or like to say. Mind you I have never been someone to like a player to the point that I can't see any wrong with them either and I think, well I know because I've had conversations with people about him that a lot can't see his faults or refuse to acknowledge that he does it a lot more than he should.

I'm not trying to say that Torres has been at the top of his game but he isn't the only one who is play crappy.  And in all honesty I would be pissed with some of the balls that he has had to deal with over the past weeks- I will admit that today it was a little better but you cannot expect him to just get back to top form after dealing with all that dross.

I just think that Stevie doesn't get the level of criticism that every other player deals with on a weekly basis.  There was a point in today game where someone in the bar kept going on how Stevie was having a good game; I had to ask him what fooking match he was watching.

BTW, we toiled but got the win.  I feel that we could be in for a long Sunday next week if we don't get our act together.

No-one, if he struggles alongside the (second) best striker in the world for Spain it's pretty clear he can only play up top on his own. He needs proper support and service, the goals will come.

Yes running into the wrong areas or gaps. If that is down to confidence, which is more than likely (as I remember it happening to Shearer, Andy Cole etc and doing the same thing) then he has to do something about it too as well as the coaches. Second half he got more of the ball but was running wide or passing back when he could have turned and gone ahead. Running into players when he had Cole or Maxi behind him, passing the ball to the opposition players when there was an easier pass to a player not far from him. Even the commentator said "wrong decision again by Torres" twice. Gerrard playing where he was and being a spare part didn't help granted but all the same he made quite a few wrong decisions when he had the ball.

And I do feel sorry for him because Roy's tactics make him look like another spare part most of the time but what I am trying to say is that it's not all one sided, he has to take some responsibility too.

Torres' problems arise from our backline first, before anything related to him.  Our back 4 is at best an average lot.  The fact Kyriakos is our most outstanding performer over the season says it all.  Full back is a very important position in the attack of many teams, and today, Torres had Carragher and Konchesky at full back from which to directly, or indirectly provide service.

Go on i'll bite.

You have suggested selling our world class striker cause he's had a bit of a poor start to the season playing under a manager who's treating him like Erik Nevland? And replace him with a 'player scoring 30 goals in 30 matches' because they're dead easy to find?

NANCY IS NAKED
Erm, no. All I said was I would rather a player that scored 30 in 30 matches, I didnt say they were easy to find and as for selling him because of the poor start, where did I post that? Remind me when has he completed a season for us, or even two thirds? That concerns me more than anything else about him.

As an alternative approach though I mean, I'm a fan of the Nando/Stevie combo myself.
But if you switched to a plan B, and had money to bring in another complementary player who would you go for? Or would you get back-up for Torres himself which is what Roy has alluded to. Sorry to go OT VdM.

Over two thirds of the season?  Ok Drogba who plays most matches but hasn't been injured half as much in the same period of time as Torres has been with us.

Pretty sure he completed at least two thirds in his first season? Can only remember him picking up an injury in or around December? Not to sure thought to be honest.

Your points just come across as, to be honest mate, stupid. You say you would prefer a 30 goals in 30 games man, so would anyone! But the fact is name somebody, excusing the likes of Messi and Ronaldo of course who can do that? Drogba cant, neither can Rooney. Torres is a world class player, the best in the world when hes on song. Just give the lad time FFS. Play the right formation and the right tactics to suit him i..e play further up the field and close the gap between midfield and himself and he will be a world beater again.

Now we want a world class striker to follow him out the door?

Whilst I fully respect the OP and his comments I do find it harsh.

It takes time. Torres does seem jaded yes but he himself has to be professional and do what he is paid to do.
Im very sure he is trying but going through a lull, which all great players do and working very hard to regain full fitness.

he knows where the door is, simple
I have always said that I would rather have a fit player scoring 30 goals in 30 matches than one who scores the same amount in 20 matches because he's injured the rest of the time anyway. If he goes then so be it, no one is irreplaceable.

Sorry pal.

As far as I can see he's played over 30 matches for us every season? I can understand discussing his form, general play, atitude etc. but talking about him leaving (*shudders*) is farcical.

In relation to the thread title, can I just say what a pleasure and how refreshing it is to be back solely discussing on the field matters.

Actually I did get that wrong so yeah it does come across as stupid. I meant 20 goals in 30+ matches and be fit to help the team out for the others. Christ I have posted that a few times in the past on other sites so my bad on that one and I deserve a hammering for it.
