As Liverpool fans we expect a manager to look up to. We expect a leader... Not an utter stoater who will shirk responsibility and take out his own ineptitude on youth players/ senior players/ scandinavian reporters and previous managers.
We are one of the few clubs left in todays modern football world that place the manager above any star player. One of the few clubs that maintain a unique bond between manager and fans.
Gerrard, Carragher, Alonso, Kuyt, Masch etc... were all gifted players without a doubt, and are/ were rightly praised for there efforts and achievements. But it was the manager that provided them with that opportunity, realised their individual strengths and weaknesses, and gave them that role to excell in. Is there anybody in this forum who feels Roy Hodgson is capable of sculpting the same commitment and spark from the current squad? Maybe some feel he still needs time.
Should he get the chance to bring in his own names so he can provide a side with both the work ethic and the flair? Can he?
Can anybody honestly say that with Roy Hodgson captaining the ship they can foresee us turning over European giants a la Marseille, Madrid, Inter, AC, Barcelona, Chelsea, Juventus et al?
Or shall we just accept that our famous victories are now Trabsonspor in the UEFA Cup?
