You forgot "a pair safe hands" and "steadying the ship".

I think they're past that. They're trying to find out who to blame for the sinking ship.

The "owl face bit" is as bad as calling Rafa a fat Spanish waiter. And just as out of order.

i just thought it was funny. christ! i feel like russell brand now or something! a social pariah! you've got to admit, he does look a bit like an owl.

The irony being, of course, that what Benitez had when he was here was supposedly good enough to win the title, but now isn't at all.

Nail on head.
From here on in its all FSG's doing. Good or bad they will stand or fall by the decisions they have made in the summer of 2012. Lets hope they have gotten it right.

When Spurs sacked Juande Ramos they were on 2 points after 8 games in the league. Harry Redknapp came in and took 16 points  from their next 8 games. There was an immediate effect on the performance of the team by the introduction of the new manager.

So when Liverpool sacked Benitez (sorry, mutual consent), I expected the board to appoint a man capable of similar turnaround in fortunes.

In his last 5 games with the club Rafa managed 8 points. What has Roy managed to do with the his first five games in charge? 5 points. He's failing, whatever way you look at it.

C'mon mate, I'm fuming about tonight. Just biting my tongue short of joining a heat of the moment Roy Out bandwagon BUT, you can't compare these circumstances for countless reasons. It's not as like he has taken over the same team, there a 4 new first teamers for a start plus a summer World Cup in between.

And those 5 games did include Man Utd/City and Arsenal.

No excuses for tonight though.

This is what fucks me off the most. Last year benitez with a shit load of injuries and ridiculous beach ball decisions struggled to 7th with almost the same team. This year Hodgson has no injury worries (bar Kuyt who is back soon) and the only real absence being Mascherano. Yet both Hodgson and the media are busy telling us the team is shit, our expectations too high and its all Rafa's fault. Apparently we need to reassess where the club is and set our standards lower and that's all Rafa's fault too, it's his legacy. Well, fuck off the lot of you, Rafa wouldn't have put out a team of children with zero experience on the bench, looked surprised when they struggled and then failed to make any tactical changes until we were losing (the big tactical change being to put a CB up front to win long balls) and when we were granted a reprieve get the yongsters (Jonjo, Ngog and Ecclestone) to take the penalties.

Fucking stupid, no one believes that Rafa would have cocked up like that and its not the first time Hodgson has appeared inept. This is nothing to do with the squad or the players, managers like Benitez would have got more out of this side, it's poor managent, simple as. In fact the one thing Hodgson was brought in to do (love the players and motivate them) he has singularly failed at. Truth is we need a better manager with European experience, tactical nous and a style of play suited to the top tier, not a long ball merchant who wants to craft us into a Fulham.

However, untll new ownership is decided we shouldn't make a move since this will only serve to highlight the lack of footballing knowledge in the upper echelons of the club (as stated by Benitez this week). After they are gone it would be best to look to an Italian or Spanish coach since these seem far more tactically astute than their English and British counterparts.

Complete agree with this.

Pellegrini is still unemployed right?
As far as I know, but you'd have to question his mental state if he wanted to manage Liverpool under the current regime. At least Roy is English & so gets some slack from the media - if we dared to appoint another foreigner so soon they'd fucking crucify him. Just ask Rafa, who is still getting shitloads of flak and he's been gone for months.

Load of bollocks. Simple as.
We moan when we dont give youngsters a chance and we moan if they dont beat teams.

You know nothing about football and how it works from what Im reading from you.

That was hardly a youth team. That was a side full of average, unmotivated fringe players and a couple of young players who should have been given chances already.

FFS mate. In case you're missing the point, let me make it abundantly clear.

Calling for a manager to be sacked on an internet forum when you weren't even at the game and didn't event *see it* is utter nonsense.

Why?

I've been trying to understand why people think we should support Roy Hodgson. I didn't fire Rafa. I hadn't been lining Hodgson up for the job for months beforehand. And I didn't hire him. I don't support the owners or their board, so why should I support their hireling?

We need to do EVERYTHING we can to drive the current owners and administration out of the club. They count on our continuing support. One cure for cancer is chemotherapy. Getting rid of Hodgson would be a start. At the kindest interpretation, he would just be collateral damage.

Although, I spose, he is pretty much guaranteeing relegation at the moment. So maybe I SHOULD be behind him? I'm confused.

There would still be people calling for Roy's head if he had won every match. Because of "the style of play".

Not to the extent as it is right now. The point is, our problems are deepr than Roy and tonight doesn't change that.
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

Just like Phil Brown.
Good choice for our next manager.  English so the press will like that and he is used to fighting at the top of the league.   And with us being in the Championship in the next couple of years at this rate his experience could prove invaluable

Depressing thing is - tonight's result didn't shock me in the slightest. Wasn't angry, wasn't upset, just a feeling of nothingness.  I can't ever remember a period where i've had absolutely no expectations of winning a game like i do lately. Can't fucking wait until the 2 leeches are out of our club so we can start to rebuild whats left of our club.  :(

How bad would we have been if we weren't in this new manager honeymoon period?
I actually want to laugh at that Art, but we haven't had a honeymoon period yet and i'm wondering when exactly it'll start. Then again, the players are happy in training now if you listen to reports, so that's good.

Has there been any comment from anyone at the club yet after the game? I'm waiting for one of the players to be lined up as the spokesperson and offer the "public apology" to the fans.

Mate nobody done nothing. They were all shit with the exception of Kelly and as you say Shelvey when he came on. His crosses were good and his penalty was cool.
Kelly though I thought was brilliant. Not all crosses were accurate but at least he tried. Was extremely disappointed with Wilson tonight. No adventure from him and simply looked.... well shit.

I used to put on a double bet every season - Southend (my local team) to win their league and Liverpool to win their league - should have put money on them both to lose to Northampton in the space of two weeks.

Absolutely fucking dire, embarrassing in fact.

What is most worrying is that, yet again, we were completely outplayed. In the past six years we have become used to controlling the game and making the opposition work, yet once again we have played sub standard opposition and made them look like fucking Barcelona. I thought WBA was bad enough, but when the likes of Northampton can move the ball and play that freely, we really do have problems.

The team was clearly good enough to beat these lot, and we had the perfect start - but one things went tits up there was absolutely no reaction from the manager. How long was it before the first sub was made? 90 mins?

Because a yes man with no bollocks was the prefered choice.

Besides this, who actually believes we were in the running for a "Big Name"? No self respecting manager with plans to win would have touched us from across the Mersey. Roy took the job when no one would, he wanted one final shot at a Big Club, got to give him credit for being ready to eat shit to get his chance.
The one most important thing that we all must remember, in case it slipped our mind, is this club is much more important and bigger than anybody. I'll never forget that and anybody that does is being a wee bit irresponsible and stupid I think because the club is more important than any one individual. The Club is, The Club.

There is only ONE who should take the blame for this tonight, and that is THE PLAYERS. No doubt about it. They didnt play well at all. This is arguably our second string, back-up for the 1st 11 players, and they cant even put a performance or a result past fuckin 4th division Northampton. Forget Roy or Rafa in all of this...Its about time the players EARNED their worth... End fuckin of.
