Torres demands new owners
Liverpool rejected summer offers for Spaniard's services

Fernando Torres is desperate for Liverpool to find new owners in order to bring the glory days back to Anfield.

Reds co-owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks put the club up for sale in April and Barclays Capital was appointed to oversee the process.

But a buyer has yet to be found, with Hong Kong businessman Kenny Huang abandoning his interest and uncertainty surrounding a consortium fronted by Yahya Kirdi.

Star striker Torres, who ignored interest from Chelsea and Manchester City in the summer to voice his commitment to Roy Hodgson's new-look Liverpool, hopes a solution can be found quickly.

"It is fundamental new owners arrive that can make us a competitive side," he told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.
Delicate situation

"We're not that far behind. We had an appalling season last time around, but the year before we were just four points from Manchester United.

"Hopefully we can find a consortium that buys the club and can make Liverpool able to fight financially with Chelsea and United.

"Then let's see what we're capable of doing this season. Liverpool kept Steven Gerrard which is fundamental. It's still a great team.

"It's a delicate situation because we are not in the Champions League, but it is still the biggest club in England and to play at Anfield every week is a privilege.

"That's how I see it. I like to have targets, and to be able to help bring Liverpool back where they deserve is a beautiful target.

Complicated

"It is always complicated when you start with a new manager and new players, but we'll see what we are capable of."

Torres has also revealed that Liverpool rejected bids for his services in the summer transfer market.

"The club received offers and decided to reject them," he said. "That's where it ends. Everyone thought I was leaving for Spain during the World Cup when there was nothing in it.

"I said the day I returned to train that my future was at Liverpool. I have a contract until 2013.

"This year our target has to be the top four. Like every team-mate, we all want to improve and win titles and for that it is fundamental we get new owners."

Seriously drop what players should and shouldnt speak out about our owners as its boring having a shy dig at our captain.

The only people that need to speak out is the fans. Would you go into work today and tell your boss or owners that they're shit? Would you? No - so to make a difference on how a company operates its down to the customers to complain and make a difference andd the same goes for a football club.

Torres has nothing to lose here. Timed it perfectly. The day after the transfer window he speaks out knowing nothing serious can come of his comments. Nando wants new owners so we can bring in quality players so he can have a chance of winning trophies, if that doesn't happen then he will move somewhere else. Recently we have heard moves for Joe Cole and Raul Meireles come out of the blue. Hopefully similar events will happen some day soon regarding the change of ownership.

A veiled threat here: if there aren't new owners I'll be off; if there are I'll remain. Good bit of pressure.
Liverpool is a special place because they make their own players into gods extraordinarily, recklessly quickly.

Well said IMO. No overt threats but stating the facts admirably.

The club should make some sort of statement about the current situation given the holding statement a couple of weeks ago. Doesn't have to be specific but should give the supporters and staff the current position.

I don't expect it though because it would appear that the higher level management don't have much respect for anyone else.

See that is the main problem here. I cant believe that some liverpool fans all over the world dont understand the situation the club is in with these owners.

strange that the "foreign" players seem to voice their support for new owners more often than the two "Mr Liverpool"/Captains

Why shouldn't he have a say? He knows all the fans - who he is more liable to than his "employers" - feel the same way. And he is gambling his career to stay in a club that, so far, looks like it's headed for doom and gloom.

If anything, after all his years in Atletico, being made a pawn of errant owners too, he already has experience with this. If I'm not mistaken, Atletico owed money to Valencia before and used his contract as the guarantee to pay it. If they couldn't pay it, he would be sent off to Valencia as a "transfer."

I think it's more like enough is enough for Torres. He probably knows he shouldn't voice out publicly about the owners but perhaps he would prefer to stay with Liverpool as long as the situation allows.

Good, keep the pressure on.

I can't fault Torres - he wants to stay, but realistically he can't be expected to if we're not going to play CL on a regular basis, and win something occasionally.

Shows how affected the players are by all this shite though...

It obvious he loves the club and he just wants best for us. I wouldn't begrudge him a move next summer if we still haven't found new owners. I would be very sad though. :(

The more and more I think of our current situation, the more angry I become with David Moores for gettin us into this mess in the first place. :no And to think the cu nt has never even had the decency to say sorry.

Completely agree. If G+H are still here in January I can see him leaving, and I wouldn't even begrudge him a move.
You have posted literally nothing of substance to flame about.  Your "points", and I dread to call them that, were superficial and completely arbitrary.  Nothing you said could be argued against because nothing you said elaborated a position of any kind.
