You don't think he's better than Degen? He was getting in the England squad until recently when Villa stopped playing him due to the great form of Cuellar and I for one thought he was a steady RB.

He's a decent player. As cover for both fullback positions could do a lot worse.

I'll cross my fingers and hope this means Insua will be staying then.

KELLY IS A CENTRE BACK. NOT A RIGHT BACK, HE'S ABOUT AS MUCH A RIGHT-BACK IN THE CARRA SENSE.

Stop shouting!

He is primarily a centre half, but also a very decent right back. In order to progress he needs to play and at the moment his best chance is at fullback, where he would do a good job.

He's a very decent right back and certainly than Degen, the main worry is seeing him line up at left back.

A
Just been thinking, going from Johnson (an injury-prone Degen as backup) and an always injured Aurelio (with Insua as backup) to Johnson and Figueroa(?) with Young as backup for both isn't too bad a deal. Specially considering Aurelio is a luxury we cannot afford at the moment.

We will still have Carra, Agger, Skrtel for the CB position with Wilson replacing Kyrgiakos.

Not too bad, this reshuffling.

Figueroa's a great CB aswell, plays there for Honduras.

Here we go again....

Lads, he's merely Degen's replacement. He'll spend less time living with the physios and certainly an upgrade on the pitch (granted not a big upgrade, but meh) . No problems with this acquisition.

Sorry, just left caps lock on :) But he won't play at RB, we have GJ... His best chance is at CB as there is two spots and Agger is generally injured often, Carragher is getting older and much less reliable and Skrtel IMO is very overrated.

No one is saying he is a right back. But since we've just splashed 2-5m on Wilson I doubt he'll play there in the coming season. He can however, better then most, cover both left and right back and until we get adequate cover for both positions we should both use him and give him first team experience

What are you yelling for? Kelly can play just aswell on both flanks(played LB in a successful spell at Huddersfield) as he can at CB. Did you not see him play at RB against Lyon in the CL? He was very impressive till he went off injured, which is round about the time the game started goin pair-shaped for us and we ended up losing it.

Yeah, I did, a game in which me lost. He was alright, nothing spectacular, I think he's a boss player and I personally know him, but he's definately a center back first and foremost.

beginning to see a plan, anyone whose name begins with or includes R in a prominent position as in maschaweno or wodwiguez is in danger so towwes and gewwawd are also still in danger

but sign a safe name like Luke Young, Wilson, Cole, no pwoblem!

Is he worse than a Degen that plays a match each season? Would he be worse than Carra at RB if Jonno gets injured? I think not. Besides, helps with the quota.

No-one is saying he isn't a centre back, just that he can play on both flanks quite comfortably.

Also I actually thought he was very impressive on his Anfield debut. He gave us good width down the right and nearly scored for us aswell. Then he got injured, went off and the game went down hill for us after that.

Just a bit of ducking and diving, wheeler dealin' once we get 10M for Johno, it will be a nice 7M profit for RBS.

Far out, not sure he deserves to be slated.  I can think of heaps of significantly worse full backs running around, and plenty that we've had through our doors.  I think he's solid, and for that money, adds some depth to one of the areas where we are very very short.

Even if he is being brought in as just back up the fact that Hodgson feels the need to draft in Luke bloody Young is, for the likes of Kelly and Darby, even at their early age, a bit of an indictment, no? I mean, if we're saying that they're simply not up to the job Luke Young is capable of it's hardly grounds for optimism.
