Carlton Cole has already peaked.
I'm not saying I'd cream my pants if we signed him, but how can you possibly say that he's peaked when he's only 26??   ???
David Platt has a face like a Michael Myers mask being stretched over a dinosaur egg.

We need a striker that compliments Torres, But also 1 that can lead the line when torres is rested

Fernando, he's so awesome.

There, I complimented him. Where do I sign? Oh dang, I have to lead the line too?

And playing in a shite team.  With the right players around him, he could flourish into a very good player for us.  We are obviously focussing on the domestic competitions and he will suit that.

Mixed feelings on Carlton Cole. Before the end of last season and beginning of this i would have taken him. Hes been shite since he came back from injury towards the end of last season. If he could get his previous form back that got him into the England squad (i know that doesn't mean much) id take him.

I think he will play 442 at times this season so Torres will need a strike partner

I think that will only happen when Joe Cole is not playing.

Agreed, I cant see us playin 4-4-2 that much. Perhaps when we're chasing a game, that about it. We just dont have the personal out wide for that formation to work effectively.

I really hope we won't be using 4-4-2 a lot this season. If we sign player like Ruiz I wouldn't mind seeing:

                 Gerrard  Lucas/Poulsen   Meireles
    Kuyt/Cole             Torres                        Jovanovic/Ruiz

Agree. FW , wingers and a LB(Konchesky seems like a done deal) is what we need.

I'm sure we'll get a striker and Konchesky look like being the LB.  But I don't think we're going to get a winger in now.

Yet another season without any wide players who can run at and skin a fullback.  Ridiculous.

United/Chelsea/Arsenal/City and Spurs all have wide players who can go past a man or run at the defence.  We have Babel and that's about it.

Jovanovic can go past a man but he's not a natural winger nor is Babel but I would like to see Babel getting a chance this season. He's got potential and maybe he will finally deliver under Hodgson. I agree that we need a winger but we ain't getting one now. Konchesky will be confirmed any minute now and hopefully we can sign a striker. Time is running out though.

Striker David Ngog injury forces Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson to step up forward hunt

Liverpool’s search for a new striker has been exacerbated by an injury to David Ngog, who has been forced to withdraw from the France Under 21 squad.

The French FA have been told Ngog has picked up a hamstring injury and cannot play in Euro Under 21 qualifiers against Ukraine and Malta.

Liverpool are yet to reveal how long Ngog will be sidelined, but he was not among their 18 players for the 1-0 win against West Bromwich on Sunday despite being named in the provisional squad on Friday.

The 21-year-old had started the season well, particularly with Fernando Torres still being nursed back to match fitness, and boss Roy Hodgson refused a loan approach from West Bromwich.

Hodgson admits he still wants to sign a striker before the transfer window closes on Tuesday and is keen on West Ham’s Carlton Cole.

'We’ve got space to add a player,’ he said.

'We’d like another striker, we’ve said that all along and there’s no point me denying it. But we still haven’t found the right man and time is running out for us.’

The Reds have also lined up a bid for Brescia target man Andrea Caracciolo in case Cole proves elusive.

Liverpool are willing to offer £7million and have even discussed a straight swap involving Ryan Babel but West Ham want at least £10m straight cash for 26-year-old England striker Cole.

Caracciolo, 28, will be familiar to West Ham fans after he scored against the club for Palermo in the UEFA Cup in 2006. He is 6ft 4in tall and could join on loan if Liverpool improve their offer.

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez, 25, will imminently decide on a move to Merseyside.

Sunderland, meanwhile, are also interested in Cole but fear he will choose Liverpool ahead of them.

Chairman Niall Quinn hopes to wrap up an £8m deal for Rennes striker Asamaoh Gyan but Steve Bruce would still like one more addition.

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez set to decide on Liverpool move

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez is planning to decide on a move to Liverpool today.

Reds boss Roy Hodgson has been looking to boost his striking options and has targeted the 25-year-old as transfer deadline day looms.

Gomez is one of the most talented strikers in Germany.

Hatfuls of goals for Stuttgart, including 32 in 42 games two seasons ago, earned him a €30 million move to Bayern.

And despite being in and out of the Bayern side last season, he still managed 11 goals.

He appeared for Germany at the Word Cup and scored in a recent friendly against Denmark.

Gomez is valued at  €15M-20M.

About Gomez, although he used to be class for stuttgart,he has lost it at bayern, and would be a gamble.Would be fabulous if it clicked.

I don't believe for one minute that we'll be paying "between €15-20m" for a striker, as it says in the Gomez article.

Daniel Guiza? Isn't he a target man and was a regular in the Spain squad until not too long ago. Remember it's going to be someone who is prepared to be second foil to Torres aswell as the odd game  playing with him.

In that order. Can't see us getting any of them though if I'm honest.

Since when Babel can skin a defender?
He only runs with the ball at the defence, correct, but hardly ever skins a defender especially as he is rightfooted on the left... so he always goes inside to shoot with his right.

We do NOT have ANY natural winger (do not count the "young ones" incl. El Zhar) in the current squad.

Ruiz is same type of player like Jovanovic, not a real striker, not a real winger... a bit of the same.

7m is about right for cole.

I wouldn't have Carlton Cole on a free transfer. Moody, unreliable, unprofessional and London-centric, and those are his good points.

I hope to God we don't get Cole and I'm happy that King has come out and said its not going to happen. From what I've seen of Gomez I don't want him either. What we need more than a target man is a bit of pace and trickery to beat a man, not sure Ruiz has that since I've never seen him play but I believe we should be adding those qualities because its where we're lacking against the other top teams in the league.

I couldn't say I'd be disappointed with Llorente coming, because I really wouldn't.
But I would like to see us sign a decent winger, from what I've seen of him at Porte Meireles can sometimes play out wide quite well, but again isn't a natural winger.

it's quite simple what we need in a striker, we need a match winner, someone who can produce something out of nothing and someone who has a telepathic understanding like Gerrard and Torres.

someone who can play alone or in a pair.

although he's older now i'm disappointed we didn't get Raul, think he could have done a job for a season or 2.

Well it has been the most interesting Transfer Windows in a bit,

In: Joe Cole, Johnjoe Shelvy, Brad Jones, Christian Poulsen, Raul Meireles, Milan Jovanovic.
Might be In: C. Cole & Paul Koncesky.
Out: Yossi, Riera, Masch, Aquilani.

to be honest i am quite happy with our signings by Roy because in our current position finance wise i think he has done quite well in fact. Imho Joe Cole, Christian Poulsen and Raul Meireles are top top signings for us. Wilson & Shelvey are good future additions and Jones i know nothing about. Jovanovic looks a powerhouse but not a 'winger' and Carlton Cole for me is a mystery to what lad will play for us? Will we see the player who looked good a couple of years back or the one who is in a poor WH XI now? But i'll give him my support if or when he signs.  Paul Koncesky i think will be a good addition too and i had spoke to fellow supporters about our weakness on the left so a LB is a welcome addition for me, but i feel our LM is seriously short and i would have prefered a LM than another CF. But i cannot have it all my own way i guess.

On Roy i think he is still finding his feet and games like we have had and the next 2 would not be his choice in his opening 5 games, well bar WBA.

Arsenal H, Man City A, WBA H, Birmingham City H & Man United A. Not an easy opening start to his Anfield career.

I think he will play a 442 with 2 attacking FB's and 2 sitting CM's with Cole/Ngog (or whoever is playing) playing off Torres and Gerrard/Cole (or whoever is playing) and our FB's supporting the attack.

Thats my little take on it.
Oh whats that, Man United have won 18 Titles, oh right so. Now fuck off and annoy someone who actually gives a flying fuck you Sky Sports Drone.

Sort of off the topic but i paired him with Pazzini  in my Liverpool team a few seasons back in FM and they would score lots of goals - Caracciolo being the target man with presence and Pazzini the quick clinical striker hehe.
Anyone see him play in the flesh?. Any comments whether he would be worth the purchase or loan for our club?.
