Mario Balotelli intends to walk off the pitch if he is racially abused at Euro 2012 - and says he would kill anyone who threw a banana at him in the street.

The Manchester City and Italy striker was speaking amid fears of potential racism at the tournament in Ukraine and Poland.

In an interview with France Football, Balotelli said: "If someone throws a banana at me in the street, I will go to prison because I will kill him. Racism is unacceptable to me, I cannot bear it.

The 21-year-old was regularly a target of racist abuse while playing in Italy.

Balotelli also said he believes he is a genius and smarter than most people.

"I believe I am more intelligent than the average person.

"The talent God gave me is beautiful and wonderful, but it is difficult because you are always facing other people keen to judge you.

"There are few people with such talent, so there are few able to judge what I am doing."

Really hope he does... walk off that it is.

And let's just consider Italy are getting beaten in say the Semi Final and are struggling badly. What's to stop Balotelli pulling an Evra and claiming he was racially abused and walking off.

What if the abuse is from a local rather than a fan of the team Italy are playing. Why would it be fair on the game being suspended or abandoned?

The onus in all racism cases is placed on the accused, so I'd imagine Balotelli would get the benefit of the doubt.

Players walking off is a no no, only the referee should have the authority to halt or suspend a match.

He's not fucking stupid, he wouldn't do that because italy were losing a game badly.

If its from a local ? That's his entire point, he's not talking about fans of the opposition.

Players walking off due to racial abuse from the fans is fully justified. No ref is going to stop a game because of it and players should not be subjected to it. It isn't one of those things that can just be brushed off as 'part of the game'. I don't think a player walking off would cause the game to be abandoned anyway. Hilarious to suggest its unfair to walk off when leaving the field because of racial abuse

You're right, he should just flag it up to UEFA/FIFA - they've been incredibly effective in dealing with this problem up to now.

Let's just take your logic and apply it to the Tom Adeyemi issue. Suppose he'd thought fuck this I'm walking off. Game abandoned at the very least. Possible reply but given the tensions of the time more likely punishment would have been expulsion from the FA Cup.

I think Balotelli is talking about the latter. Yes, I think you are probably correct in that Balotelli is addressing the issue of collective abuse but again there is precedent in our recent past to consider the principle against.

Let's say Evra in the FA Cup game who was being routinely booed and goaded by large sections of the crowd, had thought I'm being targeted not because I'm a c*nt but because I'm black and walked off the pitch.

The Equality Act is absolutely clear in this instance. Racial characteristics are protected and had he believed his dignity was being abused and the Liverpool fans were creating a hostile environment we would have been in deep trouble trying the defend it.

Again at least that's explusion from the FA Cup.

I'm just totally opposed to players walking off and taking this into their own hands. This should be education for the referee and powers for UEFA.

Another is Ogbonna who plays for Torino and is in the Euro12 squad.

Fabio Liverani recently represented Italy too, he is of Somalian descent.
