It's more down to Macia I reckon. We made an attempt to sign him months ago, before Rafa got the sack.

I really doubt Kenny has anything to do with first team signings. Wilson isn't going into the academy.
Is right.

He's on about the groundshare.

;D

I'm not 'in the know', just heard from a couple of people more reliable than myself that Figueroa is at an advanced stage, that's all. Could all be bullshit as far as I'm aware, but would seemingly make sense that the left-back slot gets filled as soon as Insua does go to Fiorentina.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Ready for what though? A challenge at 4th?

City spunked two hundred million. Joe Cole and Danny Wilson don't suddenly put us above them, plus United, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal. One can argue that the loss of our entire left back corps actually would make us struggle to beat Villa to 4th too, who were tough fucking nuts to crack last season.

Honestly, keep dem feet on the ground. Gonna be a long slog ahead.

I don't know, we didn't have a good season last season, but Benitez left us with a quality squad. If we don't get too many injuries, we are certainly strong enough to compete with any of those teams you mentioned. Man city: Can they keep their players happy? Can they bed them in properly?
Spurs: Good side, but now competing on many fronts. Will they be able to repeat last years amazing run?
Arsenal: losing Fabregas maybe?
Villa: we're better
ManU: dangerous team, but not as good as some in the past
Chelsea: lost Ballack and Cole, aging squad. Will still probably win the league.

All we can expect is to maybe retake 4th, but it wouldn't be completely unrealistic to dream bigger.
I'm liking this Refo-fella. Wanna adopt?

What?! Only one patronising comment about the Scottish game in a thread of 3 pages?!

James McCarthy showed last season how a talented player can make the transition easily, and the same principle applies here. You wouldn't expect him to anchor the defence all season, and he's got all the tools to be a great player this kid.

This.

I remember feeling similarly optimistic last year when we'd just signed a top quality right back in Johnson, only to be smacked back down to earth by the sale of Alonso.   Cole/Wilson/Remy/Whoever, may be good news now (and I'm enjoying it fully!) plus the commitment of Stevie ..... but very shortly we could lose the best defensive midfielder in the league which would definitely be a step backwards and a big blow to us.

Look that 'It's my fucking ball' look he gets in a tackle. If he can control it he can be really good for us.

For me this kind of signing is more exciting and important than Cole.Makes me mad we sold Insua again.

Rafa wanted him. They wouldn't give him the money. He had a year left on his contract. Rangers sold him before having to let him go for fuck all...

3 in 2?? yaay, just hope he's worth the money.. what's type of player he was? someone said he's a resemblance to Agger style ie nice ball control, left footie, cracker shot etc..

btw, my only concern right now is Torres!!! just hope the twats and cecil don't make any silly decision

very shortly we could lose the best defensive midfielder in the league which would definitely be a step backwards and a big blow to us.

Essien is the best defensive mid in the league, take off the red tinted specs. And what is your alternative? Keep a player who doesnt want to be here? Masch has wanted out since last summer, and if we keep him now he'll have a year on his contract next time.

As much as the doom mongerers and the panic spreaders will come out of the woodwork, everyone knows deep down that keeping Masch this summer would be ludicrous.

We need to get him sold asap and go after one of martinez, banega, defour or hamsik.

--------

This is a good signing, particularly if he can alos play backup for lb...presumably this explains why kyri has been linked away.

I think we'll get Figueroa shortly, so that would leave us with, in order of first choice/backup/youth

Rb - Johnson, Carra, Kelly
Cb - Carra, Agger, Skrtel, Wilson
Lb - Figueroa, Agger, Wilson

With 2 left footed ball playing Cbs I think we'll be ok with 1 dedicated Lb.

Probably a relation of Gillett or Hicks. I can't see how a kid his age in the US would claim to be privy to that sort of information as well as a pro-Purslow stance.

I look forward to threads in 2013 still asking if Wilson is home grown or not. The answer will be yes, by the time he needs to be registered at all. Unless we loan him outside of England before then.

Hmmm...it does seem there is some kind of temporal interference. Which is, in all likelihood, Purslow holocaust.
