Yeah, They'll get rid of the home-grown rule before he's 21 anyway, the sport needs a salary cap now City have come into it.

Interestingly enought tho, we stalled on the deal earlier this year because it turned out that Scottish players do not count as home grown in England...but yes he is under 21 anyway

Nothing against Roy, but this all down to Rafa and his team, not Hodgson.

Agreed.

But Roy might say 'If you want the fruit to fall, you have to give the tree a shake'

It's more down to Macia I reckon. We made an attempt to sign him months ago, before Rafa got the sack.

I really doubt Kenny has anything to do with first team signings. Wilson isn't going into the academy.

That was the Daily Mail getting the facts wrong.

If we sign Wilson now, he will be 'home grown' by the time he needs to be registered as an over-21 player.
Today, truth.
Tomorrow, justice for the 96.

He's a good player. Left footed CB, comfortable on the ball for a CB, and was quite highly rated in Scotland. Well chuffed with this. Much happier going this route to stack the youth teams full of talent than spunking 6 figure salaries on older pros.

It's a bit on the expensive side (2m rising to 5m) for an 18 year old, but I'd rather be spending money we don't have on younger players, rather than older ones for the most part, since their values tend to rise, not drop. Now if we can just not fucking sell him as soon as he hits 21 like we did Inusa.

Good piece of business. Wonder who scouted him and pulled the trigger?

He's not a leftback though. I've seen him play (albeit on telly) a couple times. Haven't seen him line up as a straight leftback.

I'm really happy with this signing. Wilson is really talented and will have a bright future. Shame that this probably means the end for Kyrgiakos.

The big question is will he be used on the left. What I've seen of him he's a centre back who can play on the left just like Agger but he's not a full back so we can expect another defender to sign for us.

I reckon it could mean the end for both Soto and Skrtel.

I liked the look of Ayala towards the end of last season and with Kelly hopefully having an injury free season. With this signing we have 3 x young centre halves who could all have the potential to replace Carra when he decided enough is enough.

Add Wilson to Kelly, Shelvey, Pachecho, Gulasci, and Sterling and then we have the spine of a good youth team, fingers crossed.

Heard a couple of rumours that Figueroa is all but done aswell, and if that happens then I'll start to believe we're in for a massive letdown at some stage, as things can't possibly keep going well, can they?
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.

Good signing, loads of potential and home grown player to boot.

Is a CB but could play LB to begin with. Also don't forget both GJ and Kelly can cover LB too so i think we'll only sign one other. Lets hope its a good one!!

Not wanting to burst the happy bubble but it has to be said...

1] He's an 18 year old we spent £2 million on. The transfer is welcome, but hardly exciting.

2] I don't think replacing a raw player like Insua with an even rawer player is necessarily that good an idea.

3] Having spoken to rangers supporters none of them felt he was an exceptional talent when this was mooted months back, most felt he was potentially good but still along way off.

4] This is yet another one that's been in the works for months. Hodgson seems to have had zero role in the transfers so far, which is a little worrying.

5] Lets put this in perspective. So far we have spent £4 million on 2 kids and brought in 2 further freebies. Less than overwhelming and if the window closes at this i would be peeved. I still feel we have yet to see £20 million of the monies earned.

6] Finally, Wilson is coming from the Scottish league. I watched a lot of it on ESPN last year. It was some desperate stuff, conference level at times and so, so slow. It will be a big step up for him.

Honestly, I am pleased to see activity, but this is reminiscent of the last days of the Wehrmacht, kids and old men holding the thin line against the allied forces.

if by that, you mean Nando leaves it's a no-no

Chelsea said Drogba is staying for sure, Carlo ruled out Nando signing and has 4 strikers already, they are looking for a #7 instead. Nando's wife is pregnant, they love the city. Barca has Villa and Ibra is set to stay, and if they spend big, it'll be on fab. Inter all full of strikers, Milan are in a worse situation than us, Nando won't go to City and they are signign Balotelli in a couple of days anyways.

may I ask where our Nando will be going to if a let down is about to happen ??

sorry mate, since there's only been disappointing news about LFC in recent months, and now in the last couple of days, things are starting to get better. and I couldn't find a more disappointing let down than Nando leaving (other than tom and jerry taking the club off the market , NOW THAT would be a disappointment)

but let's enjoy the moment for now. I reckon sales of Riera, El Zhar, Plessis or even Babel and sadly Masch (hope I'm wrong) is gonna fund for w.e transfer acticity we are gonna have next

Might not be Nando as much as Masch, even though many have accepted he wants to go.  Like Donkeywan says, we've received 20 million from player sales.  Let's say the following occurs:

Sell Mascherano for 25 million
Sell Riera for 4 million
Sell Kyrgiakos for 1.5 million
Sell Babel for 7.5 million

That's another 38 million in player sales.  That's 58 million we could spend.  So far we've bought Shelvey, Sterling, and Wilson for around 5 million.  Cole and Jovanovic are on frees (higher than normal sign-on fees probably).  Even if we buy Remy, Figueroa, and a another solid player for a total of 25-30 million, that leaves money still for a major signing, which probably won't happen.

Through frees, exciting youth players, and decent players, our squad won't look bad at all.  However, the real "let-down" is that we still have these twats in charge and we probably won't spend as much as we should.

It's not so much our team will be shit (it won't be if only the above 4 players are sold).  It's that with the right people in charge, it can be way better.

Short term, shrewd signings might be enough to make do.  Long-term, it's not sustainable.  The summer may not end as bad as people fear, but financially, it can never be as good as we need it to be.  Coles and Jovanovics will not be on frees every summer.

only because any 18 year old with a late birthday that we buy is a homegrown player, nothing to do with being Scottish.

Ready for what though? A challenge at 4th?

City spunked two hundred million. Joe Cole and Danny Wilson don't suddenly put us above them, plus United, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal. One can argue that the loss of our entire left back corps actually would make us struggle to beat Villa to 4th too, who were tough fucking nuts to crack last season.

Honestly, keep dem feet on the ground. Gonna be a long slog ahead.
