Ding dang fookin dooo!!  Great signing.  Reckon Stevie G will play the holding midfield role and Cole will sit just behind Torres.

Please. Ding dang fuckin don't.

Agree Cole is now joining a proper football club - or certainly what's left of it - good player but needs to PROVE IT here.

Regardless of this signing, we are still at war with these two Yank c#nts, and will be until they are gone.

But I have to say I am pleased with this signing, for a change I'm thinking about on the pitch matters, it's refreshing.

Let's get behind Hodgson, and any players that come in, first and foremost we are Liverpool supporters, if we can do that while maintaining the passion to get rid of Bert and Ernie then we'll go far this season. If we lose focus on either of these tasks, then we'll all be f#cked.

I'm a bit skeptical about the actions of the club in this, but I can't see any reason why he wouldn't get a fantastic reception at Anfield.

He is a very good player, when fit.

We know full well what the intentions are - sign cheap/free players and make money selling players.

That being the case, we have to be happy to have signed a quality player who, whilst he has had fitness problems in the last year, it can only help thing on the pitch. Of course it doesn't change a single thing off it - we are still a mess and we will continue to be until they are gone.

i think a lot of people are forgetting that the lads been out of form for the last two seasons and his injury have been numerous...its similar to the reaction most fans in England had during the world cup. everyone pin pointed coles's absence as the major factor in Englands bad form. whereas in reality people were putting two and two together and coming up with 5, englands problems where numerous and not down to on single factor.

hopefully a fresh start will enable him to rediscover the kind of form he showed in the early years of his chelsea career and hodgson might be the kind of manager that he will enjoy working with but whether or not he is the answer to our on field problems is very much in doubt.

Why would anyone in their sane mind who knows of our problems want to commit to the age of 32 here, when we have no money and no chance of competing at the top level anymore.

90k a week (plus a hefty signing-on fee)?  If it all goes tits up over the next 12 months then he'll get a move just like any of our other players.

He's a good player but you have to wonder how many other teams were willing to pay him that much.

Well athough good news he is basically a swap for Benny. At this minute would have to say we have the better of this deal but need to see him with season , and playing plenty of games under his belt.

As an aside he is the most talented youth  player i have ever seen narrowly piping ( in my estimation)one of our other previous acquisition none other than Nick Barmby !

Hopefully he proves me wrong, but I don't think he's that good a player and I'm certainly concerned by the particularly bad knee injury he had.  I also think he's been massively overhyped this summer, simply by not playing in most of the England games where they were absolute shit his stock has risen by default.

Like I say, hope I'm wrong, but I just don't think he'll be anywhere as influential in our play as it seems a lot are making out.

But we're doomed? We're a sinking ship? We have no money?  Well I guess the firesale begins now. .....

People are dumb....

Losing £170,000 a day to compound interest isn't going to be too healthy in the long run. The club unable to pay off the interest, never mind the capital isn't going to be too healthy in the long run. We don't seem to have any money since we've sold two players for around £8M and have brought in a player for £1.5M and two free transfers.

People aren't dumb*. Many are quite vocal on this issue.

Well fuck me sideways.

Jovanovic and Cole in our attack...suddenly we look pretty handy, and we haven't spent a penny in transfer fees.
But I'm concerned that there is a ying to this yang, like a sale of a massive player to pay for Cole's inflated wages.

I wonder if Gerrard's cracked a smile yet?

Still, neither of those two can play left back.

So thats three of our biggest wide players all signed on free transfers. Ironic that people always have said that on the wings is where we typically should be spending our transfer budget (when we have actually had one).

A good signing, but one we had to make. We couldnt afford NOT to make it, we are too poor to leave a player of his quality to sign elsewhere when we wouldnt have the money to sign a player of equal ability for a fee later on in the transfer window. Just hope he settles well and finds a position to make his own.

Be interesting to see what becomes of Jovanovic, Maxi, Babel and Kuyt. Maybe one will be made (back) into a forward, meaning only one striker desperately needs to be signed?

The best thing about this deal is that there are still other wingers that can definitely get themselves fucked off the books now. Riera, El Zhar (although I don't mind the lid) maybe even Babel if the fee is right and Roy wants him gone. If Babel going means another striker, the squad would look more balanced than it did last season, minus LB obv.

Good stuff Roy. Nice to see us doing some smart business so far this summer with Cole & Jovanovic coming in on frees. Sign of the times but getting 25m plus talent for wages only is keeping the banks happy (feck them all the same) while strengthening the squad / first team nicely.

Still a long way to go yet as if we lose Mascherano then we will need a replacement plus a left back as well but Cole joining may free Kuyt up to move back to the front line.
