Centre back. Left back. Central Midfielder. Right winger. Left winger. Striker.

Just for the starting line up. Along with that, we need another right back, another left back, probably another defensive midfielder and maybe another winger.

Thats what, another 10 players?

We need a quality central midfielder who can dominate the middle of the park.

I've heard there is a good one at Juve ...

Lets put it this way ... When the Spurs found themselves in a similar situation in the 2008/09 season, they've spent £40+ million in January on Defoe, Palacios, Keane, Chimbonda and Cudicini ... They've finished that season as 8th ...

I'd take just a couple of decent FIRST TEAM additions in this transfer window. Not squad players, players who could go straight into the first team and improve us!

Then have a bit of an overhaul in the summer.

Based on what? Just because we're keeping our cards close to our chest doesn't mean we aren't going to sign anyone.

Find the balance right in the middle of the park and we will start winning games. Its when we don't dominate in the midfield that we lose games because everything goes upside down.

Lucas needs a solid Mascherano type midfielder next to him.

This is what we do. And we do it very well. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bM8gOyjeuc

What's good is we're FINALLY talking about the team again, thank heavens!! The little b*STards have been getting away with murder for the past year or two, hiding behind H&G saga and then Hodgson. I just hope in the process of this cleansing we don't get relegated.

Funny how all the football experts in this topic agreed that Adebayor was not good enough for Liverpool.

Yet, apparently, he's good enough for Real Madrid, at least to replace Higuain who had an operation.

Just one proper quality highly rated player would give us a huge lift. Improvements can be made all over the shop but just look at the list of the people who can play wide for us. Dirk, Maxi, Jova, Cole and Babel. A mixed bag of talent but just about all of them are a makeshift winger or are confused about what their best position is. We need better than that, on both sides.

Agree, this transfer window is not the time for squad players , not any more , do that in the summer we need quality first team players but the problem is who would be willing to sell ? And would we get them for the right price ?

Spurs have been outspending us consistently the past 4-5 years in terms of overall as well as net spending.

We sit here and have a whole debate whether 10m is an outrageeous price for a talented lad, or whether Negredo's 17m price tag is fair. With this mentality we'll never be in the Top 4 again, let alone challenging for any trophies.

The fact is we haven't had a First team addition in over two years that would improve us. Due to the previous regime, every signing we have made in the last 30 months has been a downgrade.

Well, then Mr Genious Comolli should start coaching the team to avoid relegation.

But it makes me think... Same old Liverpool all words, no actions. Every transfer window was supposed to be big. But we've been consistently outspent by Tottenham. Lately we saw the previous regime making profits from the transfers.

Yet we wonder how did end up so crap.

Yep, they've had several flops in that time but have been able to replace them when it's not worked out. We sign flops, no more, no less than any other team, but we haven't had the oppurtunity or financial backing to correct the mistakes.

This pretty much.
People blame Rafa but what was he to do? players go, and then to not even have 100% of the sale fee (Alonso ..) to re-invest..
the squad was small to begin, he couldn't simply not sign anyone otherwise we would suffer badly and that would also be his fault in the fans eyes.
So in comes second string signings, and then under Roy third string signings.
And people wonder why we'r suffering.

But we have to spend wisely now ... each bad transfer hurts us very badly. £17m for Negredo is being debated because that's a lot of money for a half decent centre forward. Each time we have to ask ourselves whether that player we are signing would get into the City, Arsenal, United or Chelsea team. If they wouldn't, then they're not worth signing. That's why seeing the departures of players like Masch, Alonso, Arbeloa and Hyypia have been so devastating. Every single one of those players would have got into the aforementioned teams. Would Lucas, Meireles, Johnson or Skrtel. All good players, but you get my drift. This team has been downgraded over the last few years.

But I'm positive if we keep the faith, spend wisely, trust Kenny to introduce a proper mentality back into the team, then we will be on an upward curve soon enough. We just need wins now.

I'm a big fan of Diarra. I said in the summer that he'd great for us and perhaps better than Mascherano and people were mocking me.

I hope everyone's happy with Poulsen now.

If Adam is available for £3m-£5m then, at the age of 25, I see no reason why we shouldn't take a punt on him. I had my doubts, mostly due to Rangers selling him for £500k, but he's shown on a continued basis this season that he has all the qualities of a good central midfielder. I'm not saying he's the first team answer to our woes but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have him in the squad.
