*BANNER* - 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse (Banner Retired)
« on: July 6, 2010, 09:00:13 AM »
Time to ramp up the pressure on Purslow and Broughton  >:(

Royhendo, Fat Scouser, SOS and their gangs (and everyone elses that has been involved) have been putting the pressure on them via graphics, letters etc campaigns etc so much so that Purslow has threatened legal action so they are obviously feeling the heat.

The idea is to get a banner ready for the first game of the season against Arsenal on 14th August done in the style of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.

No doubt this game will be screened live by our friends at Sky Sports which affords us the opportunity to increase the pressure on the 4 horsemen on a massive scale. I can't imagine Purslow or Broughton being happy with their faces being plastered on a derogatory banner beside the lovely Tom & George  ;D

The banner will be displayed at the front of the Kop along with the rest of the prominent banners  :scarf

ElShek has already done a '1st draft' for us and is happy for people to offer ideas to change the banner, add/remove bits etc:

We are also asking for any other graphics guys out there who are willing to help to post your suggested banner designs in the style of the 4 horsemen.

The reason we are using the 4 horsemen symbolism is beause they signify impending doom and the end of the world - total and utter destruction. Powerful imagery and symbolism that in someway highlights the destruction that is taking place at our club.

So to summarise what we need:

1. Suggestions or amendments to ElShek's design

2. Alternative banner designs (but in the 4 horsemen style)

3. Paypal donations to get the final banner design sorted (I'm going to speak to Barmy flags about prices/sizes etc. but we have £30 left from the World Cup banners so that's a start so long as no-one minds us using that for this!)

4. Volunteers who can put the banner up the front of the Kop for the Arsenal game (plus others after it - I will hopefully be at the game to hand the banner over but as I'm not a STH I don't know yet where I will be sitting in the ground)

OK I think that's all - if anyone has any questions please feel free to post here or PM me.

EDIT: The flag has been reported on by Rory Smith of the Telegraph:

Should mention I'm not online much during the day so bear with me but keep the ideas coming in between yourselves.

I'm normally on at lunchtime and after 6pm

Don't know if something like Misery, Betrayal, Lies and Debt would be better as the top line?

Anyway, it looks great and it would be fantastic to see it at the ground v. Arsenal. Will be interesting to see how the club react also.

Sounds great, will drop some money in later on.

Do all banners get checked before they're allowed in? Just worried it might not be allowed in if that happens, especially if the club gets wind of this thread. I've been away and missed all the legal action threats but obviously they're keeping a close eye on us and getting worried.

I've been stopped once taking my "Tom & George Your Not Welcome Anymore" banner. I think that was because is was the day of the stay behind protest against Sunderland. The fella at the turnstyle asked me what was on the banner and I foolishly told him the truth. He called over his supervisor and his supervisor said he had to check whether this was derogatory towards the owners!

As soon as the supervisor walked away I walked through the turnstyle, the original fella just thought that his supervisor had okay'ed the banner. We are now just paying customers to them, they think we have no right to enter the ground and air our views!

They are watching us though as the knew about the stay behind protest so they will know about this banner. We need to keep any banner free of swear words but a bit of thought might be needed at the turnstyle.

Having said that lets get the banner done and keep the pressure on. They are getting worried.

Would my suggestion be changing the point of the banner due to those words being associated with the four horsemen (?), but instead of Plague, Famine, War and Death - how about four words using the first initial of each of their names ( Gillett, Hicks, Purslow, Broughton), something like (apologies for my poor effort  ;D)....

Love the banner and I like Jaffod's idea of misery, betrayal, lies and debt as well.  Maybe you could put them above the appropriate people:

Gillett: Lies
Hicks: Debt
Purslow: Misery
Broughton: Betrayal

Just a thought.  Also, will try and sort something out with paypal as well - if I can remember my bloody password!

Great banner, but get rid of the quote marks around GET OUT OF OUR CLUB. Doesn't make any sense them being there - you're not quoting anyone and the words are meant literally. If you want to emphasise the words, underlining them would work.

Think this is a great idea, look at all the press the mancs green and gold got with its visual message.

Also  don't know how it works but is it possible that the mods/owners of the site could set up an account whereby people can donate money by means other than Paypal.

Visa, debit cards, credit cards western union would probably mean that plenty more people can donate to flag making or whatever. It would of also been handy for the shirts.

Don't know if anything can be done but I'm sick of sitting on me hands while people have great ideas that need a little bit of financial backing that I can't donate too.

.

That might mean admin. costs. If paypal is used, the donation is without fees if marked correctly. As a result the whole amount gets given to the other party

I'll get onto Barmy Flags shortly and find out the cost for various sizes of banners.

Also anymore ideas/developments on the slogan for the banner would be helpful - the more we have to pick from the better.

Love the design, the only thing i'd suggest is possibly displaying the banner in the centenary rather than the Kop? Just that sky tend to give our protests against the owners fuck all exposure and we only really see the banners in the Kop for a short time during YNWA, they couldnt ignore it if it was there right on the halfway line where their cameras will be.

I don't know how impractical this would be, just a thought though.

A great idea.

In my opinion though we should leave the wording as Plague, Famine, War and Pestilence, rather the using greed, debt etc. Gives it a new look and a slightly different message to the usual ones which for obvious reasons are re-used regularly.

I would say that Famine and Plague are H&G and War is Purslow, which leaves Broughton as pestilence.

Just my view.

Yes. I agree. I'm looking at unveiling a banner at the Arsenal game that depicts Broughton riding into Anfield on his trusty steed. Going to call it "A Knight In Shining Armour".
On the floor will be the severed heads of Hicks, Gillett and Purslow.

Fancy putting a tenner towards it?

No doubt this game will be screened live by our friends at Sky Sports...

In case anyone's missed it, this game will be shown live on Sky Sports at 4pm on the opening Sunday of the season.

Yes.

Er, you mean apart from selling Benayoun to his beloved Chelsea for an "undisclosed fee"?  Well, let me see......

I hope that is not the only reason.
