So Yaya Toure will become the world's highest paid player in April. Goodness. His agent is that Pini Zahavi fella though isn't it? He wouldn't have settled for less.

According to the likes of Alonso and Arshavin, with the tax laws he'll end up with a paltry sum anyway.

Good signing. A front 4 of Johnson, Silva, Robinho and Tevez with De Jong and Toure holding behind 'em is a bit scary (and not just because Tevez has a face like a crime scene). They should do everything they can to convince Robinho to spend the season there next time out. He'll never win the hearts and minds of non-Manchester City fans, but even if he only turned it on at home, he'd pick up a shed load of points for 'em.

If they shore up the defence, they may be up there challenging for the title. Unfortunately for them though I think the 46m pounds they wasted on Kolo Toure and Adebayor will come back to bit them in the arse.

Even our shit defense looks better then the City backline.

Here's something for anyone who think the £24m City have paid is too much...

Yaya Toure, Manchester City's new £24m signing is being paid £220,000 a week by the cash-rich club, making him the best-paid player in the Premier League. His initial wage of £185,000 will rise to £221,000 when the 50% tax rate comes in next April. He is due to receive £4.1m a year after tax, an image rights payment of £1.65m a year and a bonus of £823,000 each time City qualify from the Champions League and £412,000 if they win the competition. He will also get bonuses if the club win the Premier League and the FA Cup. The deal for signing Toure, including transfer fee, wages and bonuses, totals £79.6m

From the Sunday Times

City know the only way they're going to be able to attract big names is to pay big money. I bet a couple years ago Silva and co didn't even know who man city were.

"You have to admire animals. Hamster spun round in a wheel three times bigger than him and abruptly lands on his back. Then just gets up and carries on as if nothing happened! This is absolutly crazy..

What happens if the sheik loses interest? City are now like real madrid, no stability.

That's a bit harsh. I'd say Silva modelled his game on Eyall Berkovic and Ali Bernabia.

Manchester City are nothing like Real Madrid. And much to their dismay I'm sure.

Oh I do realize that, i meant in their quest to success they will not give managers much time and good players could be dumped if good performances are not given instantly, maybe!

To be honest, they are creating one hell of a project there and i believe many players will be happy to take the money at City as they are creating a squad that can compete for the title

Campbell is better than Toure? You must have rated him fairly highly until he wanted out?

We all have a bit of revisionism when it comes to ex players who leave in circumstances we're not happy with but if he was that far down your pecking order how come he played every week (granted Vermaelen wasn't there at the same time, and possibly Sol for a lot of it so may have answered my own question!).

Foreign players pay less taxes for the first two years. It's something like 20-25% and after two years it's 43%.

They won't win the league until they get a decent manager. Going to be a lot of infighting in the Manchester City camp next season I would have thought, too many egos not enough regular football to go round. Pretty sure Robinho will be offloaded before the season starts though, they're gonna take a hefty hit on that one.

Say what you want about 'merc twat' and 'he's only going there for the money' but these are the kind of quality players that Torres and Gerrard want us to be signing every year. Shameful what football has become in this country over the last 10 or so years, really.

if City have any sense theyl get rid of Richards next time he, or infact if he ever, has a run of form like he did a couple of seasons ago when he was in the England setup and playing well.Another kid at City who seems to have had his head distracted somehow.Although I heard him doing an interview with Colin Murray and he seems to be a bit more screwed on.We shall see though.

Speaking of which - whatever happened to Michael Johnson? I know he was injured for a while and came back pretty fat but wasn't there talk of his attitude not being right?

We all have a bit of revisionism when it comes to ex players who leave in circumstances we're not happy with but if he was that far down your pecking order how come he played every week (granted Vermaelen wasn't there at the same time, and possibly Sol for a lot of it so may have answered my own question!).

I said before Toure was sold that he was a liability. So did most fans, we knew something was bad at the cb pairing and most actually went for Gallas staying rather then Toure. This was despite Toure being a popular figure while Gallas hardly endeared himself at times so you can imagine how bad things had got. Kolo Toure couldn't jump and he had the positioning sense of Micah Richards, this was ok when he was younger, quicker and had Sol and Jens along/behind him. Once his pace left Toure, he got very badly exposed for his lack of defensive know-how, he kept trying his best but he just wasn't clever enough. We liked him, we still do I think if we think of him but he just wasn't good enough

The whole Ade thing is possibly a bit of bitter revisionism ;) If Ade could have kept his ego in check, probably would have been our main striker

As for Wenger, he can be stubborn with his favs, it was probably a mixture of trying to play Toure back into form (he even moved him at rightback to keep him playing) and I think his starting to dislike Senderos as player after that CL/Liverpool defeat left Senderos in tears. Knowing Djourou, he was probably injured at the time as well.

Speaking of which - whatever happened to Michael Johnson? I know he was injured for a while and came back pretty fat but wasn't there talk of his attitude not being right?

I recall that as well

Vermaelen and Campbell weren't there/had just signed. Song isn't a defender, don't try and tell me he is.
The other two can be argued, Gallas/Toure are similar in terms of ability. IF RVP was ever fit he's miles better than Ade, but he never is.

I thought you meant the current squad.

Gallas actually has positional sense, he is a little error prone certainly but he doesn't spend half the game chasing back because he rushed up to the half way line for no reason so he is miles better. Song was a cb/dm and hadn't found his position at the time so was more cb cover, Djourou been fit he might have played despite being very error prone.

That Kolo Toure was arguably our second best cb just shows how bad we were in the position at the time. It' s a bit like saying Almunia must be good because he is Arsenal's number 1
