Remember you are the boss so go out and coach and don’t even dare joke in public…the fans now take the stance that the owners took a while back. Just coach the team.
Maybe when he wins the Cl with us he may be allowed to make these kinda comments. In fact it might be best that he manages us through a football game.
Why are you looking past this season?

I think everyone here needs to grow up a bit.

Roy isn't going to alienate his friends and the people he respects (one of which is Alex Ferguson) because of his job. That's just pathetic. If your best mate played for United would you go to the media and start talking shit about him? That would speak volumes about your character if you did. Fortunately, Roy is a dignified and respectful person.

Yes, we won't want him harping on about how much he likes Ferguson, but I care more about how he is going to manage our team rather than a bit of wordplay from the media to try and rile us all up. For a group of people who collectively think the media is a shambles you sure fall for every stunt they pull.
Hold on.He is the manager of LFC now.If he isn't willing to allow that to affect his friendship with fergie he shouldn't have taken the job.
As for the media,he made the comment.Rod for his own back.Simple.

Stunning news that shocks everyone…one of the most liked and respected men in the game is actually respected by Fergie, visa versa. God how things have changed …we are truly fecked as this likable man still has the ability to smile on Day 3 of his new job and even have ability to joke about his friendship with Fergie although his one wish is to bury the mans team on the pitch in the same manner the 70s & 80s team did. Shameful remarks…from fans unfortunately.

Get a grip, just because we dislike Ferguson doesn't mean Roy has to. If he threw a match then yeah but come on he's gonna want to beat United every bit as much as we want the side to do.

I hope you were being ironic, seeing as that was one of the biggest sticks the Rafa-out crew used to(and still do) beat Rafa with...the amount of times i would read about how Rafa should just get on with coaching the team.

Nobody's asking him to suddenly start disliking Ferguson, they're just saying that perhaps, as Liverpool manager, he should avoid talking about his frendship with a man who has shown nothing but contempt for Liverpool for over 20 years.

Not ideal, but more worryingly is him thinking Don Howe was a good coach, or that the Arsenal double winning side was anything like the Liverpool side of the same era. Even he said his neck muscles got mote exercise than his legs as he watched the ball fly over his head.

This one! If Fergie doesnt fancy being his friend anymore, cos he's now the Liverpool manager then it's really Fergie's problem.

I dont agree with this.  There are so many shades of opinion within the Liverpool fanbase that it would be impossible to please everyone.

I think some people are just too eager to look for one more reason to be unhappy at the moment - as if to dare to think that Hodgson could turn out to be a decent appointment is heresy because he isn't Rafa.

Regardless of what he does or says Hodgson is never going to win over some fans - they have already decided they don't want him here, so he may as well carry on being himself, having a joke (shock! horror!), and carrying on being friends with a someone who just happens to manage Man U.

Those fans who are fractious and underwhelmed about him will just have to get on with it, but for now it may be better for everyone to hope that he does a good job, manages to keep the players we want to stay, and gets us playing decent football again.

I reckon he is probably more concerned with that than the views of some of our fans.

Some of the reactions on here are quite silly. Remember Ferguson visiting Houllier in hospital? Should Ged have come out and apologised for that, or turned him away at the door?

Rafa was the confrontational sort, not knock his ability as a manager, but he did often provide the media with the ammunition they so badly wanted. Roy seems like he gets on with most people, and personally I'm looking forward to seeing the end of the dramas between the LFC manager and the likes of Allardyce, Ferguson, Mourinho etc. Hopefully he'll just get on with coaching the players as he should do.

Personally I saw Rafa's "defence" not confrontation, as most of the time it was he who was attacked first, as means to galvanise the players and supporters, and by and large it worked. Most of his greatest wins were partly as a result of this galvinsing effect.

Most of the battles fought were either to defend the hounor and integrity of the club, his team or himself, something I would wish any Liverpool Manager to do. Personally I respected him all the more for having the courage if his convictions.
Perception is nine tenths of reality

And yet as soon as a certain percentage of fans turn against him then he's gone. key to any management job these days is fan approval. He's already on thin ice with this one - because I'd say the vast majority just aren't sure that he's the right appointment for the job, nor that he'll achieve anything. On top of that he was appointed by a shower of muppets the vast majority of the fans can't stand.

Given those things, surely it would have been in his best interest to get as many fans onside as possible, rather than seeminly intentionally winding them up for no reason. He even acknowledges that Liverpool fans hate Ferguson with a vengence - so why add fuel to the fire. If we get twatted by the Mancs, his position could be untenable.
Football has reached the ninth gate of farce and pathetic, unbelievable trite nonsense. It's supposed to be a game and it's turned into pantomime, hype, quilts and bellends.

Unless his comments were intended to divert attention, or to get fans arguing amongst themselves. They can only be construed as being very ill considered, and a failure of basic PR 101. You don't go into a new job and start talking about your friendship with the enemy, however it's intended. All I'll say is it seems a trait of getting old that you tend to speak more without thinking, that's if my family's anything to go by. ;)

I take it that those comments are sarcastic, since Bill Shankly, all of our managers have had a sense of humour and I believe our fans loved them for that as much as for what they gave us in enjoyment on the pitch, thing is they didn't shoot themselves in the foot. I have to say I find that a strange comment coming from you, I have read a lot of your posts and enjoyed them, regardless of whether I agreed with you or not.

I suppose all this shit is getting to us all

Ferguson only tries to be "friends" with managers he doesn't deem to a threat.  He was fine with Rafa until Rafa started beating him in the league and pushed him all the way.  I remember him being very complimentary about Wenger recently.  That's because Arsenal haven't won a trophy since 2005.  Him and Wenger had plenty of verbal spats when Arsenal were winning/challenging the title every year.

Ferguson's typical ring of pals include the likes of Redknapp, Allardyce, Moyes, Bruce, etc.  None of these managers are threats to him.  He was so complimentary about Fulham's run last year because Fulham and Hodgson are not a massive threat to the title.

The jury is obviously out on Hodgson.  If Roy somehow, defying all odds, manages to pressure Man United in the league, it won't be Roy breaking off the friendship.  Ferguson will get into spats with him, no doubt.  If we're languishing in 8th place, guaranteed, Ferguson will "extend a hand of sympathy" for Roy Hodgson, complimenting him and our club endlessly while laughing at our predicament.
King Kenny.

I'll tell you what sticks in my throat more than Roy's comments, Gerrard during the WC a) Talking to that fat c*nt comedian off ITV and b) Telling him his best mate in the squad is/was Rooney!!!
I think the interview was a good few weeks before the event, it actually made our heroic captain look like a really pleasant guy.

And of course he's going to have something in common with Rooney, whilst they are with England they are supposed to be a team, they resembled nothing like one as it happens.

I don't see why it bothers you mate.

Wrong thread anyway.

Stunning news that shocks everyone…one of the most liked and respected men in the game is actually respected by Mr Alex Ferguson, visa versa. God how things have changed …we are truly fecked as this likable man still has the ability to smile on Day 3 of his new job and even have ability to joke about his friendship with Mr Alex Ferguson although his one wish is to bury the mans team on the pitch in the same manner the 70s & 80s team did. Shameful remarks…from fans unfortunately.

Must have missed Stevie saying that he was concerned about his friendship with Rooney because he was playing for Liverpool.

I think your top paragraph is unfair...i love Rafa(plutonic) and was devastated when he left, but anyone with half a degree`s worth of sense knows that nothing lasts forever and a change would come sooner or later...I actually said a few weeks back that Hodgson might be our best bet for the time being especially compared to some of the names mentiond with the job at the time...but i questioned his style of football(considering those that wanted Rafa out were critical of the football we had been playing). like it or not there are huge question marks over Hodgsons ability to move us forward and i think that the negative posts put forward are an example of this. Are you confident that Hodgson will have us playing decent football?, are you confident that he will be able to persuade our top players to stay, are you confident that he will be looking out for our best interests as supporters.....im sorry Roy but thats how im feeling at the moment, its not personnel its just hard to trust anyone or anything to do with our club at the moment, weather thats the board, the players, the fans........

As for being stinky ol alcy`s mate...wasnt god mates with the devil at one stage?.
