Rawk Peasant, have you tried NOT praying to Satan? ;)

I'll try it but the pentagram I've got on my bedroom floor drawn from the blood of a goat doesn't help really.

I was sleeping one night but become aware of a weight upon me, i could wiggle
my toes,i could wiggle my fingers, but that was about it.To say i was
terrified would be the understatement of the century. I opened my eyes
and to make it worse,in the dark i can make out a shadow no more
than a centemeter from my face, my heart beat sounded like bomb blasts.
A moment later my eyes start abjusting to the light,,i could then just about
make out the most beautiful almond shaped eyes...
Turned out to be my friend. She'd been out on the pop and in her rather
tipsy state decided my boobs were the most comfortable option for a good
nights sleep.

I know this is not a paralysis dream but does this happen to anyone else? You're peacefully sleeping but then wake up suddenly to a falling sensation and a strong muscle twitch and you jerk your legs.  :(

As i said earlier I have this happen every night due to my narcolepsy and I still find it hard to believe that when i think I'm shouting and struggling, my boyfriend tells me I'm not doing anything at all. Mind u that's what he says. I thought he was trying to kill me the other night, he swears he weren't! ;)

Haha ;D I always do that, I'll be falling through the air and then I wake up with my legs hanging off the side of the bed, once I whacked a glass of water on my bedside table and ruined my iPod. I've got used to it now and it just makes me laugh when I find myself on the floor and just looking at my empty bed thinking "WTF, I want to sleep".

Sorry to hear, sounds terrifying.

I find that when I'm physically exhausted but I keep pushing my body to stay awake at night in order to do a few jobs or watch a movie or catch up with my gf over a phone call conversation, when I finally fall asleep - I had really weird and unsatisfying fucked up sleep.

Sounds weird but its the only link I can see with the times I have had it. Last night, I was falling asleep on the phone to my gf but manage to converse for an hour and a half, even though during the whole week I hardly slept.

I had the exact opposite dream the other night - I had to run home from the local park and I sprinted the whole way, flying past everyone.  It felt brilliant, like I could run forever.

Awesome.  Makes a change from the dreams I usually get where I can't run for shit and Darth Vader is getting closer.

I've only had a couple in my life but they're fucking horrible.
For those who aren't sure what I'm on about. A paralysis dream is a dream where you think you're awake but you can't move and you're completely frozen.
Whenever I've had one it's like I can see myself, like an out of body experience.
What are everyone else's experiences?

I typed in "dreams" in the search looking for a thread and found this, and coincidentally this is EXACTLY what happened to me last night! I didn't realize it had a name!

Terrifying experience. My eyes were open the whole time, I remember I could see. Don't remember much, just had a dream that a couple of my good friends and I were hanging out in the woods, and they were acting strange. They kept looking to one another as if giving each other signals, then they both pulled out a knife. I didn't run, I just stood there and they slowly walked to me, then proceeded to stab me repeatedly, which is when I woke up, or rather thrusted my body up.

I don't know how to describe the fact that I was awake and had this dream at the same time, but it was like I was conscious of both at the time. I even noticed my heart rate and breathing pattern in the "dream", and woke up much more conscious of them. I think it transitioned into some sort of panic attack, I had to do the count to 10 method twice, breathing heavily in and out from the diaphragm before I felt ok.

 Anyway, scary experience

Used to get them all the time, especially after a messy weekend... taking MDMA (Ecstasy) causes a sudden serotonin imbalance and it messes your head up. You can get it from taking 5HTP as well, which is a supplement which boosts your serotonin, used to treat depression.

The worst case I had was opening my eyes and my girlfriend was fast asleep next to me, I started to hallucinate that the curtains were morphing and coming to take her away... I just lie there completely still, screaming in my head but being completely paralysed and unable to do anything. This went on for what seemed forever, I finally woke up terrified beyond anything I've ever felt... crying my eyes out petrified to go back to sleep. I ended up missing work, getting on a train and getting off in the middle of no where (I was living in Hong Kong at the time, so was completely lost).

But I've since learned to control them, manipulating them and going on weird trips. I haven't had any for over a year now though thank god.

Fucking horrible you had to go through that mate, not entirely sure why paralysis dreams always seem to be nightmares! The worst thing is you literally can not wake yourself up, its a massive struggle and you really feel that you're paralysed. Really can't imagine what it would have been like to experience what you dreamed.

Remember reading this thread last year and I've had this occur to me twice now. The first time was quite scary and the second time  would have been but it was like I was expecting it this time and I didn't panic. I was awake under my covers looking around the room and suddenly my covers start to lift up and down because of this huge gust of wind coming from the end of the bed, making my sheets move almost like a wave. I tried moving and keeping the covers from being blown away but I couldn't. It wasn't scary though as it felt like I had experienced it before. I just waited to for my body to wake up and there I was- back to normality. Very weird.

I've never had the crushing sensations though.

The one I get occasionally is waking up can't move and can't breathe for what seems like 10 seconds, talk about panic stricken.  I just wake up and can't move, and then realise I can't breathe because it feels like something is keeping my chest compressed. Then sheer relief as a big gasp of air comes in.  Don't know why it happens but i fucking hate it.

these are terrible, i think irregular sleep patterns can contribute to them, thankfully mine don't last long maybe 20 secs, but you really feel like your dying, and when you snap out of it, your heart is pounding.
I will keep getting them each time i try go back to sleep, unless i actually get up and take some deep breaths out my window for fresh air.

if you wanna be the best you gotta beat the best

I'll make two predictions of this...Carroll won't score 3 PL goals total for the rest of the year and we won't score 5 against any team all year.  We might still get CL football without either happening.

It's only happened to me once. I couldn't move, I was seeing shadows everywhere and there was this deafening noise in my head that sounded like someone banging on like, a hollow metal structure. I'm not really sure how to describe it.

Was fucking terrifying.

I just read through this whole thread and know i wont get a good nights sleep!
 :butt
Slightly different story for me.......
Occasionally woken up by the feeling of landing after falling from a great height and then i scramble to get on my feet to fight "something"...
Im never really awake for this but kinda know its not real...and then properly wake up tangled in sweaty bedclothes often outside the bed

Only happens when Im on my own in the bed
I used to do acid a LOT so i put it down to that....

Been having those sort of being strangled or sat on Paralysis dreams for years. The first one i still remember the most. Been up for about 39 hours without sleep and once i tried to sleep it all kicked off. Couldnt move, ghosts in the room and all that scarey shit.

I'm sure its because your too tired to sleep (does that even make sense?)

Like I said I've had them for years and the only I worry about is can they cause heart attacks as bloody hell doesn't your heart race after one?

Had that quiet a few times.

i get this regularly. i remember the first time i slept in the same bed as my ex that it happened and i woke her up by screaming in her face. made quite an impression that did.

interesting that someone mentioned above it being brought on my irregular sleep patterns. i've never really looked into it much before but i have noticed that it often happens when i'm unusually tired and have kept myself awake longer than i should have, so by the time i get into bed my body has just shut down and next thing i know i'm getting sleep paralysis.

I've experienced sleep paralysis dreams a few times, though not for a while now. They are absolutely terrifying. I remember feeling that if only I could reach over and touch my husband sleeping next to me I would know it was just a dream, but because of the paralysis you can't do it. It's just the most horrible feeling.

I get these fairly frequently and i'm pretty used to them. I tend to get them when i've woken in the morning for abit but instead of getting up i've fallen back asleep again. I can minipulate my dreams during them sometimes and only rarely are they scary.

If I've been on say a three day bender, I find it extremely difficult to fall asleep. Evert time I'm about to drift off my body rejects the action and I jerk up from bed in a panic. This happens all night till early morn when I'ts nearly time to get up for work. Anyone else have this?

It's common to find it diffcult to get into a deep sleep when you've been drinking and awaken feeling as though you've had little sleep at all. Take a valium, if you can.

I used to do the same Jag when it happened to me, "waheguru, waheguru, waheguru."

The first time it happened it freaked the fuck out of me. Actually thought I was being possessed or something.

It happened to me a lot during a period of around 6 months just before I got married. Don't think there's any link. ;D

Eventually I got to the point where I would just relax and let it pass. Haven't had one in at least five years now.

I've been ill today so I came home early and went to bed, after being asleep for a while, there was this really surreal ringing sound and I couldn't lift my head, I opened my eyes and I couldn't see anything. Which was really worrying.
Anyway, after some struggling and panicking, the ringing sound eased and my sight came back, although still blurry for a minute.
Was this a 'paralysis dream'?

Have heard about this phenomenon before and having read the entire thread it appears to be quite a common issue. I really do sympathise with everybody who suffers from this as it must be terribly frightening. I myself am quite an animated sleeper, often sleep walking and talking. Recently the curiosity got the better of me and I downloaded the Iphone App “SleepTalk” – it’s brilliant and it works by recording sound movements during sleep - I highly recommend it to anybody who would like to monitor and understand their sleeping patterns.
Liverpool was made for me and I was made for Liverpool.

I think so. They're most common when not in a deep sleep. I.e First thing at night, in the morning, or during a midday nap.

Haven't had a paralysis dream since I made this thread, probably jinxed it.

It's weird how I experienced the paralysis and out of body experience but I've never had the crushing sensation or figures in the room coming towards me, for me it's always been rapid eye movement. I'm lying down paralysed and I can see myself from almost 3rd person and it feels like my eyes are looking in every direction at 100mph, it's horrible.

Also get the falling feeling in dreams occasionally, the scariest other than paralysis dreams is when I dream I'm kicking something and actually physically kick and wake up thinking "what the fuck just happened?!".
These are the days when I hate the world, hate the rich, hate the happy, hate the complacent, the TV watchers, beer drinkers, the satisfied ones. Because I know I can be all of those little hateful things and then I hate myself for realising that.

Doesn't sound like it mate, but I may be wrong. Have a read of the wiki description ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_paralysis ) and through a few of the accounts in the last 4 pages here. Not sure what was going on with you there...
