Interesting that you feel that way. I think this season has been as good as ever. In fact it's a lot better than the first 5-10 episodes of the show, when it hadn't yet hit its stride.

don't get me wrong, it's smart and it's clever as ever.  but the normally witty dialogue has become a bit stale, there were no funny lines as such, the characters are becoming caricatures, the acting has worsened, and the show as a whole seems to have become a bit more high-concept than ever (which, for community is really saying something).  all of which is fine, and smart, and clever and everything.  just not very funny.

incidentally i don't really get the negativity regarding the early episodes.  maybe the first two episodes were slightly weak but it was rock solid quality from then until the end of the second season (and sporadically since then too, of course).

Thought that was pretty weak myself, I have to say.
There's a way to do those product placements and I don't think it worked. (My favourite one of those is in 30 Rock when Liz/Tina breaks the fourth wall and says to camera 'Can we have our money now, please?')
It tried to be knowing and self-referential about the placement, but at the umpteenth appearance of the Subway logo, I had tuned out.
The guy from Scrubs playing 'Subway' was good, but when Pierce has all the best lines you know something is up.

Oh, and the Jeff and Annie b-plot was lame, and there wasn't enough of John Goodman. Especially given he was wearing the evil goatee.

i thought the product placement was done really well, and it's good to find a huge company that's happy to send itself up like that.

the jeff/annie subplot was dull though.  the show seems to reach for the cheap gag far too often in episodes like this.

Yeah I have to agree the Jeff/Annie subplot was a bit dull.

I suspect there's a certain compulsory quota of Jeff/Annie scenes throughout the season so they can keep the sexual tension going between the two of them, and not all of the jokes are going to be good.

I enjoyed seeing Magnitude, pop pop! Garrett drinking from the fountain made me genuinely laugh for some reason. The boner gag was really good. And I liked the subway thing. Product placement isn't the right way to describe it. They're clearly making fun of the whole Citizens United, 'corporations are people' thing. At no point did I think it was an ad for Subway, the eat fresh line was great. I thought it was a good episode. The Jeff/Annie subplot being the only weak part.

Quote
The chronology of the events, corroborated to me by multiple sources, involves Chase walking off the set of the show on the last day of shooting last month without filming one of his scenes, which reportedly was to close out the season finale. Then at the wrap party, Harmon got up and gave a “Fuck you, Chevy” speech in front of Chase and his wife and daughter, and encouraged the crew to join him in saying “fuck you” to the actor. Chase left immediately and later left Harmon a profane-laden voice message, a portion of which found its way to the Web after Harmon played it in front of other people.
Harmon's an idiot.
"...and RRRRRRRRIISEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! RELEASE THE KRAKEN!"
Pepe just said, "Fuck you ball, you're not going in."
And it was so.

Solid episode again. Nice bit of self-referential humour at the end there, similar to the episode of Arrested Development when they were going to get cancelled.

I thought that was terrific. Just a pitch-perfect parody of the Ken Burns documentaries, right down to the music and homespun philosophical voiceovers ('New Fluffytown didn't care who you were: you were just surrounded by softness').
Annie as the nurse brushing down the feathers (and her weary look as she carries off a basin of feathers was great) and Brita's terrible black & white photography were particular highlights.

Tremendous stuff.

meh.  a couple of laughs but nothing exceptional.  credit for originality of format if not concept.  the dialogue is getting really poor though, considering the relentless quality of previous seasons.

that said, the "...in what he described as the world's biggest mistake..." line had me in stitches.

Agreed, loved that episode. I love how far out they go with their theme episodes, not afraid to throw the format completely out every now and again. Not only did it work brilliantly as documentary we got some real character stuff, Troy and Abed "hurting each others feelings" was a great moment.

enjoyed that episode, but it's still underperforming.  it's on the verge of being kooky, which is never a good thing.  the pierce/chang thing was utterly pointless.  there were some nice lines though.

I agree, but I'm not too worried just yet. It's been doing this on and off throughout the series.

Besides I don't think you can actually seriously have a moral-of-the-story when Abed is the subject.

Still, my least favourite episode, cool as the claymotion was, was the Christmas episode with Abed. I found that very annoying.

Yeah no doubt, mate. Plus the show's about to hit its peak for you there.

I didn't like this Dreamatorium episode that much, liked the one before better. Didn't like 30 Rock or Parks and Rec that much either this week.

They've been on for longer than I thought was planned with this season 3 break. Are they going to finish season 3 and then cark it?
