Phil Thompson on SSN ----YANKS OUT
« on: March 13, 2010, 01:45:59 pm »
Move if already posted ?

A very passionate Phil Thompson on SSN telling the Yanks to go take their profit while they can and go ...

Going on about them been liars

1.Spade in the ground in 60 Days  .....Lie
2.No debt on the club .........................Lie
etc.....

Missed the start but was gong on about Gerrard and Torres should start to stand up and come out against the yanks and go to them and tell them to sell up ....

Does anyone Know what he exactly said in full regarding Torres and Gerrard standing up to the yanks ?

To be fair, Ryan Babel and Torres have at times come out this season and said basically that we need investment (and the yanks aren't good enough) so maybe it would be nice to hear Stevie actually pipe up at some point being captain and all.

Me too, I'd love to see a clip of that.

"I can't believe what's happening at MY club"

"MY club is in a mess from top to bottom"

"It breaks my heart"

Torres & gerrard will probably leave because the clubs going backwards, and Rafa wont be here next season, he wore his heart on his sleeve and feels whats happening like most of us.

Saw this, was a good speech by Thommo. Even Charlie Nicholas was supporting what he said.

He did say that if pushed he wasn't definite that Rafa would stay, said he thought Rafa would know in his own mind by the end of the season. But said that it's the ownership that needs to change, not the manager. Also that if Torres and Gerrard leave, the Yanks wouldn't get the money they want as the club wouldn't be worth as much and they need to realise that.

Jeff Stelling tried to get in a couple of digs about Rafa but Phil wasn't having it at all.

Big difference from Lawro on Football Focus earlier saying Rafa should be sacked cos he's spent too much money and not got the results.

Rafa Benitez: "I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager. Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Just to add, I agree with Phil. I like Rafa, but I think his time has now definitely come. Even if we do manage to somehow pull of a miracle and finish fourth.

Proper saddened me that. Ex-players that have done for the club what Lawro did have a right to an opinion, but when everyone from every quarter is having a pop, it's frustrating to see 'one of your own' sticking the knife in as well.

Piece with him in the Mirror the other week under the headline "LIVERPOOL RELY TOO MUCH ON GERRARD"', in the week when he came back into the side after we'd played pretty well without him for a fair few games when he was injured. Utter tool.

Phil's a passionate guy and good on him for that. However, I'm not convinced that it does the club any good whatsoever having any of the players commenting on the ownership issue. I want them to concentrate on playing for the club, even SG.

Thompson behaviour is impeccable, especially being surrounded by shit in the sewer, Any fan who wants to define 'the Liverpool way' could do well to look to Thompson and Evans's behaviour after losing their jobs. More right to be bitter than any of us, instead shining lights in the dark.

The whole issue on SSN with Phil was sparked by Jeff Stelling reading the Torres quote about "4 or 5 players or I may Leave" from a Spanish interview.

I think this bullshit about players concentrating on their game is nonesense.  It's clear for all to see that he and Gerrard in particular are so fucking frustrated by the mediocrity around them atm.  How can they concentrate when they are reminded of the poor squad we have at every turn on the pitch?

It's certainly a catch 22 situation.

BTW  I saw the Thommo incident on SSn and what he said even had Nicholas and Merson on his side.  All piss-taking went to one side and they agreed that the world needs a strong Liverpool Football Club battling at the top of the laegue.

About Torres and Gerrard speaking out about the current owner situation and investing in the squad, Torres has spoken about it to Spanish newspaper AS.

"When asked by Spanish newspaper AS if he would quit Anfield, he said: "It's too soon to talk, I honestly think that we're going to be fourth, but for me Champions League qualification isn't so important.

"The really important thing is that the club makes a big effort and brings in important players, who will improve the quality of the squad.

"We need four or five top-class players to compete, better than we have here, who will make us grit our teeth and do everything we can to try and keep our places.

"Without reinforcements next year we will once again be fighting to be fourth.

"I want to fight next year to win the Premier League, to win the Champions League or the Europa League, but for this there have to be signings.

He added: "There are so many circumstances and so many things that you have to take into account that it is too soon to talk about that. But I have this and three more years of my contract.

"I've left my home and it's clear that I owe Liverpool many things, and I'm very happy here. The fans have treated my like one of their own, but I'm going to think about my future and hopefully it will be here. I think these fans deserve to win.

"Beyond thinking about me, I think the club deserve to get back to winning (trophies), but they know themselves that right now that it's far off.

"The fans are worried about players going, it's a problem when you start to fear that your players are going because you know it's because the club is not moving forward, but I don't think that is going to be the situation here."

To me, that´s a clear message to the owners. They do not want the likes of Torres to leave, as that would greatly reduce their asking price when, yes  when, they sell up.

They are morons, but not that dumb.

How can it make things any worse. Seriously people are standing by watching this happen. Soon it will be far too late to react. The damage will be done. We need to wise up and stop been spectators to what is basically the destruction of our club. The reality is someone like Gerrard is in a stronger position than most to speak out against the owners.

I agree.  Too many supporters still worried more about glory on the pitch in the short term over the longevity of our club.

Fuck this season, fuck 4th and fuck the Europa league!  I'll sacrifice all of that IF it meant those two leeches left our club in the summer.

Love Thommo, so passionate about the club, was proper damning about the owners and the 'turmoil' of the club.

Charlie Nicholas was goin:  'We all need Liverpool at the top of the Premier League because they've always set the standard. The fans want success,  do they support the team and get into the Champions League or would it be worth sacrificing the Champions League so the owners leave and risk losing Torres and Gerrard'

Expect Sky will have a video of it later.

Finally!

Haven't seen it, but I like it! At some point it's necessary that key figures speak up and put the light on our useless owners. They have to answer for putting us in a financial mess that can jeopardize the future of the club.

It's nice to think that the players would speak up, but they have a difficult situation. Employed and partly responsible for the results. They've got to be careful and try to stay loyal to their employer. Perhaps Gerrard, as captain, monre than anyone else.

But when someone like Thompson does it, it's perfect.

"The key isn't the system itself, but how the players adapt on the pitch. It doesn't matter if it's 4-3-3 or 4-4-2, it's the role of the players that counts." Rafa Benitez
