Protest after todays game.
« on: January 30, 2010, 10:01:51 PM »
Great turn out considering it was a last minute shout,Fucking freezing though.Fat headed yank twat sneaked out through the back door.

Hundreds of Liverpool fans protested against American co-owner Tom Hicks as he made a surprise visit to see the game at Anfield yesterday, heightening speculation about the future of Rafa Benitez.

Club officials were told of Hicks' attendance only on the morning of the game and the Texan was given a security escort into the stadium.

But once his presence was spotted by fans, about 500 gathered outside the main Anfield entrance and chanted 'Yanks out' and 'Get out of our club' for 90 minutes. One banner unfurled on The Kop earlier read 'Yank Liars'.

Hicks and co-owner George Gillett have been hate figures for many Liverpool fans since they bought the club in 2007. Hicks' son, Tom Jnr, resigned from the board after sending an abusive email to a supporter who had questioned the club's transfer policy.

Hicks' presence at a relatively minor game will lead to questions about Benitez's long-term prospects at the club.

The Anfield hierarchy are becoming exasperated at Benitez being linked to other clubs, most recently Juventus last week. They have written to the Italian club asking them whether they have illegally 'tapped up' Benitez.

Juve deputy director of football Roberto Bettega is reported to be a good friend of the Liverpool manager.

Liverpool's directors are unlikely to be pleased with Benitez's statement that he was 'flattered' to be linked with the Serie A giants.

Hicks also had business matters to discuss with managing director Christian Purslow yesterday.

Liverpool are trying to raise £120million that will reduce the stake of Hicks and Gillett, who was not present yesterday.

Benitez looks likely to go to Italy in the summer unless Liverpool's financial situation dramatically changes so he can compete in the transfer market.

My toes have just defrosted. Have to laugh at the idea of hicks having to walk round the pitch so he could sneek out.

Is that what he did? No doubt he would turn that into a publicity stunt of some sorts.

What an interesting spin to put on it. Daily Mail ::)

Was a strange game for him to attend though.

How cold was it today? I almost bailed it was that bad.

It was a good turnout despite how late it was organised. I only heard about it in the alehouse before the game.

We managed about a dozen at the Shankly Gates as Hicks arrived (at very short notice) but the effort after the game was excellent as a text and word of mouth campaign.

Hicks evidently popped his head out a window to see what was happening and they left by walking around from to the Kemlyn and leaving from there. Stories circulating about Hicks over "enjoying" the hospitatlity on offer at the ground and needing an early night at the Hilton afterwards. More grist to the mill of him being no custodian of ours.

Stewards weren't great - I got lobbed out just trying to check out one of their drivers.

Well in to all of you involved, wish I could have been there. Tell you what. People say things like this don't get to them? Bollocks I say. He had to walk half way around the ground to get snuck out of the football stadium of the club he 'owns' - and this, just two months after Arsenal. The fact he had to be, ahem, put to bed tonight, shows it is getting to him in a big way.

Keep going, we can down these twats through a spirited, persistent and collective effort.

Great effort, well done to all those involved. Unfortunately I was in the lower anny today, so chances of the protest spreading to me by word of mouth were pretty much none. But still, keep it up everyone

Previously the fat cnut would have it announced re his arrival.  The fact this was kept quiet and he sneaked in says a lot - he obviously realises just how much he's despised.

Plus he had to also sneak back out.

That's a victory in itself.

Rather than despised i reckon he felt threatened hence the evasive action on his part.

Thats the thing, our protests get nothing like the publicity the Manc's protest do.

But quite clearly Hicks gets the message Conor and surely that is the important bit?

it is a bit strange how our actions are getting reported compared to the Norwich tho - this from a Guardian article linked in the post match thread:

'As Coyle spoke, the same Liverpool fans who had been chanting their manager's name could be heard once again protesting against their American owner Tom Hicks, who was in attendance here. In that moment, the club's lingering sense of despair came to the fore again.'

Compared to the write up the Mancs have been getting all week youd think they were the French Resistance or something. Anyway fcuk em all keep it up people!

Well done to whoever protested!!

Don't like that article though. Nobody knows why Hicks was there. Why say he was there to sack Rafa? Why couldn't he have been there to secure the investment that Purslow has been shouting about? Frustrating!!!
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.
Treat him well Massimo, or we will burn the San Siro to the ground.
