I'm a huge fan of both. I would have to say the UK one is, simply, the better one. BUT the fact that the US one has gone on for so long and built so many different sub-plots, while still keeping the show very funny - Id have to vote for the US one.

Personally hate the UK One. I have it on DVD - and there are some very funny moments, but most of them are just cringeworthy and embarrasing.

The US is unintentionally funnier because they just don't really get subtle humour.

Perhaps some of the UK office is stuff that you see every day (That isn't really particularly funny) whereas the US is a glimpse into a different mindset and it's interesting to see that all Americans aren't all "Yay!! Yay!! Yay!! Yay!!" about their companies ideas (Which is how they are usually portrayed)

Unless you have watched ALL of the UK Office and at least up to Season 4 of the US Office then you don't really deserve an opinion.  Season one of the US office was turd as it was a copy of UK, but from 2 it started as it's own, all the characters developed and 3 years straight it just got better and better.

Very different shows now. At the start of the US series they did copy the format of the UK version, but I think it's branched out now and to compare the two would be a bit silly.

US version for me.First season of it was a load of shite and cant really believe I went on to watch season 2 but glad I did,think its got better and better as the years have gone on

Well then my vote stands.

I like the US Office, it's one of the better comedies out there at the moment, and although it is a very good show in it's own right it's never hit the heights of the original IMO.

love the US version, as was mentioned yesterday it has it's own momentum and has had an incredible run it, has wonderful characters and in Steve Carrel a brilliant lead However the office is a work of genius,I agree with B&M ^

I don't think it's fair to say the US one is unintentionally funnier either - it's written to be more of a 'sitcom' with obvious gags and much less of the subtle, cringeworthy stuff in the UK one.  Partly because it doesn't translate as well - like when Michael pretended to fire Pam, and started shouting "YOU GOT PUNK'D!" at the top of his voice.  He came across as an arsehole whereas when Brent did similar, then realised he'd fucked up and tried to downplay it, he came across as an idiot who was just trying to be funny and make people like him.

Not sure I agree with your last point either.  The mundane, everyday stuff the UK version portrayed wasn't meant to be 'funny' in the haha sense, it was meant to be funny because people would recognise what went on; the boss that wants to be everyone's friend, the co-workers that constantly grate away at you etc.  Whilst the US version uses those things as a jumping off point they go completely over the top - whilst Jim and Dwight are based on Tim and Gareth they're caricatures of them - they're exaggerated for the sake of the joke.

I don't think you can say which one is definitively better - I like them both, but they should really be treated as completely different shows, with different styles and goals in terms of what they're trying to do to the audience.

I think the UK Office is probably the better show alright. But for me, the US one has more rewatchability.

Two great shows in their own right. But two very different shows also, debating which is better, pretty pointless.

I'm halfway through season 5 of the American one, but have voted the UK one. While the US one is funny, the UK one is better, apart from the inclusion of Creed in the American one. I realise Brent and Scott are different and both are played really well but the little things like Brent's pettines and his little comments are portrayed excellently by Gervais. Pam and Jim's were great for the first few seasons, but then they got to together and I'm wondering where that will go. And I think there's something likeable about Gareth that isn't apparent in Dwight. I also think Finchy is better than Packer.

Also, because there have been 5 seasons there some episodes where the US Office drags, and some stories just don't seem realistice (Jan and Michael, say) which didn't happen to the UK one. Season 4 was probably the poorest out of all of them I reckon.

The US one is still funny, and the fact that it's gone on this long means there are more stories involving other members of the staff, and as mentioned, Creed is always funny. Am also liking Holly and Michael's relationship and wondering where that will go.

I love both, but I'd probably go for the UK version. It feels a lot more real. The US version is a lot more far fetched/slap stick in places - although it does work well

For me it has to be the UK Office.  Brents' nuances and mannerisms make it much more realistic compared to Michael Scotts' over the top reactions.  A number of the plots in individual episodes in the US version are also too far fetched and so are the relationships between the characters, and the show has now entered sitcom teritory as many have already said on this thread already.  This I feel was unavoidable if it wanted to last more than a couple of series.

Having said that, both are class in thier own right.

Dwights charachter develops really well. Sometimes he's a bit over the top, but generally, he's a great laugh

Uk office is outstanding, and the christmas specials are one of my favourite bits of tv ever ever.
But the US office is superb also, in a completely different way. Dwight and Andy, and even Jim in the earlier series are magnificent, and recently jim and pams wedding was utterly brilliant from start to finish.
My vote would have to go to the US, but only just and because i enjoy rewatching it so much.
