Does the money not go to the same company who release the X Factor effort, too?

So what happens is you're giving them two competing songs instead of just the one. It all seems redundant to me. I'm just going to buy the Fucked Up one where the money goes to a trio of nice causes and I get to have David Cross, Fucked Up, Yo La Tengo, Ezra Koenig, Bob Mould, Tegan and Sara, etc.

I don't get what you mean. If you buy a RATM single why would Simon Cowells label get the money?

Does anyone give a toss about the charts anymore?

I think what there doing is actually outstanding. Even if they don't get number one they've done a lot of good and made a point. The charts is so full of xfactor shite every year it's good to see some sort of revolt, and it can only improve the music industry.

Because RATM are signed up to 'Epic' records, which are Sony (the same label that owns Simon Cowell's record arm). So basically, its all the same anyway.

Its an amazing song! But as I have mentioned before, last year Alexandra sold 500,000 copies of her single and I very much doubt there are 500,000 RATM fans in the UK.

They're both on Sony so Cowell's pockets get lined anyway but i don't think its about the money. Cowell said last week that a RATM No'1 would "spoil" it for the other contestants as if the No'1 spot is reserved for the X Factor winner. It would be an interesting pop moment and a victory for everyone who cant take anymore of this bland formulaic you raise me up bullshit, granted a song that's 20 years old would be dishing out the damage.

For any of the Irish contingent here, there's now a Facebook group to try and get RATM to number one here, too.

It's all about money. They've got a good couple of thousand people who would never have considered buying a single that would be vying for the Christmas top spot splashing out, a couple of them I've heard of buying multiple copies. Cowell is rubbing his hands because it's publicity for the Christmas single thing, Sony/Epic are rubbing their hands because it's publicity and they're making thousands for doing sod all and iTunes are raking the money in because of this.

I admire the good intentions but I could list a hundred better candidates for this than Rage if they just want to score a point. Something really obscure or some really harsh thrash metal track or even a proper charity single.

They've already played the song start to finish on Radio 1. The rebellion just feels a little bit empty and almost as if it's been orchestrated to encourage the funnelling of money into certain pockets. I love Rage but it's a hollow victory.

Well lets hope that it does get to number 1 then, just for the sake of it being a brilliant song by a brilliant band, rather than that shite Joe and his stupid Miley Cyrus song.

Not so much a case of "Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me", more like "Fuck you, I won't buy what you sell me.".

No, it does count.  I'm not a fan of RATM myself, preferred Infectious Grooves take on their song "Do What I tell ya" but it's aimed as a big two fingers to Cowell protest, a stand by real music fans who are sick of manufactured talent clogging up the media.  I think it's great and I've bought mine.

From what I remember it's a song about racial discrimination by police officers/the military/'the man'. Loosely.

Wasn't this single for Help the Heroes? Or was that the other one?

My favourite RATM track. Funnily enough, I always skip Killing in the Name.

On the Facebook group they originally said that any downloads less than 40p wouldn't count but now they've revised that so yes, the 29p download from Amazon does count.

What won't count is multiple downloads (over three) from the same ip/credit card/address etc.

On the facebook group the admin say you can definately buy it from amazon and it goes to the chart numbers.

Bought it earlier, absolute bargain at 29p as well as saying fuck off too your shite to Simon Cowell.

Its number 2 in most of the charts so far.

Anything that stops -

4 months of X Factor
4 months of cynical ads for anything He* has a hand in DURING X Factor.
4 months of people selling their albums in time for Christmas by appearing ON X Factor/
4 months of Louis Walsh

and one insipid little twat who won, that the Mirror beautifully described as 'someone who makes Gareth Gates look like a member of Slipknot' getting to number one, go for it!

He's hoping to release a track from 'Freaks' next year, with the lovely ditty 'One of us.......one of us.....one of us....".

The smug git's like the Borg. Resistance is futile.
From his stupid, ugly, pug-faced, smarmy, poncing, play-acting, Oh-look-at-me greasy hair to his crybaby, stupid, cheating, dirty antics he can fuck off the horrible little poodle faced gazumpadum.
