WHU V Liverpool 19th Sep 17.30pm Pre-match chit chat
« on: September 17, 2009, 12:25:04 pm »
Expecting a tough game, especially as it's less than three days after our CL game.

I was hoping Torres would be rested last night, and I can't imagine him being benched for a tough league game away from home. So therefore I would go with:

Reina

Johnson
Carra
Skrtel
Insua

Kuyt
Lucas
Masch
Yossuf

Gerrard
Torres

Live on ESPN.

Reina
Glen Cara Skrtel Aurelio
Masch Lucas
Kuyt Gerrard Benayoun
Torres

Looking for a better performance high tempo from the start and give the Hammers no encouragement .
Same result as last season 0-3 would be perfect :) .
Torres still seems out of sorts for some reason , that black eye seems to be taking ages to heal up ... ?

Rafa has some tough team selections to make.

Does Mash and Fab come back in?

For me Yossi and Kuyt have to start.

Going to be a hard game this.

Lucas is going from strength to strength and has earned his place - in fact after his treatment by some of our so called fans he has more than earned his place. Keeping him in the side also allows SG back into his most effective position. This means Albert will have to step down which is unfortunate as he looked to have a real hunger for the game last night.

Only Rafa will know if Aurelio is ready yet - but we now have a very flexible and competent squad which I think will gradually harden into a formiddable machine as the season progresses. I'm very confident about this season even though we didn't get off to a flier.

will be a real test this. although victories against Stoke and Burnley were good, and the Bolton one hard fought, the former two were at home and the latter not utterly convining. The two games we've had against decent-ish oppo so far we've come up short in. Although I think we are gradually improving this season, I think this game will be a good indication of where we are in terms of of this improvement.

Not happy witht he fact that it's on ESPN. Not that I beleive in jinxes or superstitions generally, but last season we often seemed to do badly when our games were on Sentanta. ESPN seems to have taken over the jinx along with the contract..

Going into it this seems like a tough one. We used to moan when Rafa made tons of changes, and now we moan when he doesn´t. I couldn´t watch the game last night so correct me if I´m wrong but it seems like we were pretty average, and a few of the players maybe could have used a rest. Rafa surely has everything planned out though so I won´t second guess him for the moment.

Two big positives then going into the match:

1) Two clean sheets in a row, both of them with Carra-Skrtel in central defense. Hopefully these two can form a solid defensive base for the next little while. At the start of last year they were very solid, and helped us keep picking up results even when we weren´t scoring loads of goals.  Even when we´ve played poorly this year we´ve scored, so if things get tough I can see us picking up a cheeky 1-0, at the start of the season I didn´t have that confidence.

2) West Ham under Zola like to play football, we won´t see ten men behind the ball, holding out for a draw. In these types of games we almost always do well. Our counter attacking football is excellent and with players as intelligent as Dirk, Benny, Stevie, and Nando, any spaces left open at the back will be punished.

I'll take another 1-0 win like last night to be honest, although in keeping with our recent Premier League form I would appreciate a 4-0 win.

Reckon we'll play the same team as we did last time (only Johnson in for Arbeloa).

              Torres
  Benayoun Gerrard Kuyt
      Lucas Mascherano
Aurelio Carra Skrtel Johnson
               Reina

i'll go against the majority here and say that we'll win with at least two goals. would be nice to have a clean sheet.

Anyway, Torres hat-trick and a Lucas goal will be the order of the day. West Ham have had a bad start to the season, and look a bit toothless up front. Hopefully that will continue until Sunday at least!

We've got a bit more solidity back in defence, and Aurelio might come back in for Insua.  Reckon Lucas has been great this season and must start.  Hopefully Masch is back and Stevie moves further forward with Nando (although I am happy for him to play in midfield with Lucas or even Masch against "smaller" teams).

Yossi surely has to start again (unless he's a bit tired or has picked up an injury I don't know about).  Dirk's a near certainty, sothat probably means Riera on the bench.

To ease Aurelio back in, I'd go with this...

Reina

Johnson    Carra    Skrtel    Insua

Masch    Lucas

Kuyt           Gerrard           Yossi
Torres

SUBS
Diego, Kyrgiakos, Aurelio, Spearing, Riera, Babel, Voronin.

A Torres double and a 0-2 win would do nicely thank you very much.  Assists to Lucas and Gerrard (fantasy team, c'mon).

Confident we will get the 3 points here. West Ham will put a shift in, and have some tidy players on the ball, but they lack cutting edge and without Collins and Lucas Neill at the back they are less equipped to deal with decent attackers.

2-0 win for the redmen.

I'm going to buck the trend and say I don't think it will be that a tough/battle of a game. I've always found WH like to play decent football and there never to physical unlike say a Bolton. So I'm expecting a very good game to watch with loads of goals and we run out as winners. Huzzah!

Apart from last season, all our games are pretty tough at WHU so expecting a tight contest with us winning 2-1. Yossi/Torres.
