Right - noob question.

I want to know if there's any way to stop apps from being chucked out of memory/closed when receiving a call?

Specifically FMH2012 :) ... when I'm playing it and I get a call, it exits and I have to load the last save again. Annoying as fuck. ANy suggestions?

i have mine automatically saving on a weekly basis, dont even notice it as its so quick at saving so its not a hindrance, so if someone rings or whatever the most ill have lost is 1 week, that might help

Can you get faceunlock on any ICS phone or is it only the Nexus?

But yours is rooted, right?

If i have a "normal" phone I assume I can't get it?

* that's the main thing i wanted to fuck around with on ICS...all that for nothing then, eh :butt

Or for anyone who doesn't have free texts ...

Pisses me off that Apple have their iMessage (or whatever it's called), and then there's WhatsApp and and and.

It'd be bloody brilliant if smartphone makers would just get together around a common standard. There's no reason why they shouldn't: there's no money in it for them anyway (unlike SMS-charge-happy carriers), and there's no sense in letting a 3rd party like WhatsApp cover the market in free cross-platform messaging.

No iPhone user wants to think about whether they can use iMessage to text a certain user or whether they should use WhatsApp or send an SMS.

Bunch of balls, to be honest, but there's no way mobile vendors (especially Apple) will make their phones compatible with each other.

Ah but they do its only APPLE that are uncompatible. of course the messenger things most have but that aside Android is android - were all brothers.

On a phone it was designed to work on, such as the galaxy nexus, is face unlock actually practical or just a useless gadget?

Flashed my galaxy s with ics and while the face unlock worked, it was a pain in the arse lol

Turned it off after a day. Looks like your checking yourself out every time you unlock your phone.

Anyone know of a good sync app to sync music to my phone? It's already synced at the moment but I want it to automatically update my phone with new music every time I plug it in. As in if anything new is added to my music folder on my PC. Using WMP is useless for this, I have to find the new songs myself.

Didn't Kies do that anyway? I got my Galaxy S2 in January and was able to do all that from day one   ???

Can anyone help with this...I smashed my Galaxy S screen and it is completely kaput. Is there any way of connecting the phone to my laptop to get the data off it? I'm sure you have to press the screen to activate the connection, but that obviously won't work. Is there anything I can do?!

As long as the phone is on it will register as connected. You could always pull out the SD card and put it into another phone, phone memory would be lost though. That just tends to be apps though, you can find that list at play.google.com and maybe contacts but they're backed up to gmail anyway.

Pretty sure there is something very similar already on the market. Maybe Google Currents. I can't be bothered looking for it again, I used it for a while but it just seems inefficient. Might be great on a tablet though.

I developed the lfchistory app. If you are familiar with Java take a look at the android developers website. There are some really good tutorials and resources on there.

Any questions, just give us a shout.

Ok, Android programming - does everyone put all their buttons/shapes/textviews whatever in main.xml? Or is it better putting everything in individual .xml layout files? I was using a tutorial a while back that had a drawable shape in a different xml within the layouts folder. I still don't understand why you would need to do that since everything can go in one file. Is it just to make things easier to see?
