Once again we are amazed that anyone could prefer the wooden legs, leaden mind and battleship turn of Gareth Barry to the majesty of Xabi Alonso. The tv purred like a Merc every time he touched the ball.

Much better, who says Gerrard shouldn't play in the middle...

Yossi more than good enough to play with Torres, who still looks a couple of matches away from full fitness IMO.

When we score early on it becomes a rampage.

It took about half an hour - although I take your point. If we take th elead in the first half we are in business.

I think Burnley would say that they're happy with the results considering what  happens in the second half.
Good performance. Second half, that is

All fell into place after the first goal. Everyone played well.
Why was Reina acting the big man anyway? Sure he did no more for Spains win than I did.
Did he dies of Nacho-ral causes then?

Good win for City today as well - they look like serious contenders. Apparently Adebayor celebrated like a twat causing mayhem in the Arsenal section. Important that we keep apace while we find our feet this season.

It's a shame Yossi didn't get the four he deserved. The team played really well for 70 mins and played some really attractive, fluid and direct (!) football. Voronin and Degen impressed as substitutes.
All is not lost. :)

could easily have been double that. gutted Fernando didn't fill his boots. chances like this don't come around that often.

good performance after the opening quarter. well in Yossi!

big shouts for Dirk, Milli and Lucas too. all had excellent games.

happy dayz ; )
Has Steven Gerrard scored a goal even more important than the one he got against Olympiakos - Is this the start of something BIG?

Burnley looked poor but we did our job today.  The best thing was that we didn't concede.  That's something to build on for the defense.  Degan looked handy when he came on! :)

Goodbye and thank you Rafa. You've given us more than we ever had a right to expect from you and you stayed loyal and fought for us even when some of our own turned on you. I truly hope that you find somewhere with the support that you deserve and win everything in site.

Did what we had to do against a lesser opponent, something we struggled with last season when we were firing on all cylinders against all the good squads but struggled against inferior opponents.

Lets see if rafa can keep things rolling as the league does appear weaker overall compared to last season and therefore we may not yet be out of the race.

Yossi Superb, Gerrard ace in midfield, Degen useful when he came on, Riera good, Torres off the pace, Johnson poor (tired?), insua excellent, Lucas solid, Skrtl excellent, Carra Immense, Kuyt excellent (as always), Voronin OK, but should have scored, Ngog very effective and a lot stronger than last season, Reina solid.  Crowd rubbish.

3 points

Clean sheet.

Job done

great game from the lads. Yossi motm and Degen made an appearance...wow!
Anyway good win and 3 points. Roll on Champs League. Well done lads. Oh yeah Lucas was ace today. Just thought i'd throw that in.
I am sick of hearing Rafa in all our post match chats now. He is NOT here.

He also had his bad points, bad substitutes, stubbornness with predictability. He wasnt perfect every week. Yes he did more good than bad but

Yossi should be as much a first teamer as Gerrard or Torres, he's a fantastic asset to have.

Lovely.  Our best performance so far.

Everything clicked after the first goal.  Yossi behind Torres is intriguing and he deserved his hattrick.

Our defence has uncharacteristically let us down a few times this season so it was great to get a cleansheet.

Onwards and upwards.
