Drawn in by a bit of Rolfy ey, who isn't?
If you're unfamiliar with the Guardian Chalkboards then it's quite a good feature of the Guardian's football section.
These chalkboards allow you to view the match events, have a mess around with it and you'll see what I mean.
OK so here's the game.
These chalkboards allow you to view a players passes for the entirety of a game, stretching back to the 06-07 season.
The passes are generally the best way to see where a player is playing and his style of play.
Now, what I'd like is for everyone to have a go at matching the unnamed chalkboards below with the correct current LFC player. These range from current matches to way back in the 06-07 season. Red is unsuccessful, blue is successful, white is a goal assist.
Most importantly though I'd like you to say WHY you think the player you have chosen is correct.
Let's have some fun.
I haven't read any of the above posts - gonna try this on face value... (yikes!)
1. Carra.
Placement makes it look like the right-side of the CB pairing. JC would be the obvious guess, but I'm going more on the number of near-sideways and short passing, together with the fact he almost never got over the half-way line, and played a few long balls, several of which failed to find their mark. I don't count Carra as a good passer, and his long balls are often more in hope than certainty...
2. Dirk Kuyt.
Pretty well covered the pitch, but mostly playing around the right side of midfiled. Could be him or Stevie, based on the ground covered...
3. Albert Riera.
Left-sided midfielder, mostly on the outer edge. The number of safely completed passes look more like Riera than Babel, Kewell or Luis Garcia, and all three would have been trying to score rather than pass once they got near the box...
4.
Momo Sissoko Mascherano?
Shocking percentage of bad passes, whoever it was! Since Momo is no longer with us... Gonna take a guess on
5. Fabio Aurelio.
Lots of play on the wing, mostly completed passes, and trying to cross to the strikers, some of which were successful.
EDIT:
6.
Xabi Lucas.
Hmmm, you got me for sure here. I would think of Lucas (because so many of the completed passes were short range, just keeping the ball moving). However, Lucas rarely takes corners, so that looks like Xabi (except I would have expected a few more long-range deliveries for Xabi). D'oh - CURRENT players - no Xabi then!
Great quiz, Degs!!! When will you post the answers?
