He did in the one he did a week or so back in the Level 3 thread- too obvious it was him though.

Damn you Torres I was so close to getting a full house. Just knew number 2 had to be Gerrard. Nobody else is free to roam all over the pitch like that. Suprised it was the game against Chelsea, I thought he'd seen a lot of the ball that day.

This was pretty good, dig up another set and lets go again. Maybe put a twist in there as well, like all players that have left since Rafa took over or something

4/6. Pretty satisfied. Really surprised about the Gerrard one though. Had no idea. A really different performance to the ones we are used to now where he's much further down the pitch. As for the Torres one that I also got wrong, I think the lack of the goals data fucks you up haha.

Terrific thread, well done Degs.

The Gerrard one fooled me due to the absence of a corner being taken. The Torres one too was a little misleading but as you say, he's not really a passer and gambles in possession.

The absence of the goals quite naturally pointed me towards Babel.

Would be interesting to see Gerrard's comparison for a game that we are on top in. Would also like to see shots shown up too.

Yeah. Missed Gerrard based on the corners as well. Did we not have corners in that game, or did someone else take them?

I think #3 has to be Babel because:

a) the lack of involvement
b) the poor balls into the box
c) the assist

Great thread.

I got 5 out of 6.

3 was difficult and it could have been a toss up between Riera and Babel.

Gerrard's one was also hard. Some matches he has lots of passes and in others he has far fewer.

nice one Degsy, learnt a lot from your answers bit, considering peoples reactions and the answer, like Fabio Aurelio for instance, from that chart it seems Insua was at home in that position a lot earlier then a lot of us have set in our minds.

nice work.

I looked at the Chelsea V Liverpool match again and these are the passes for Agger and Carra. It doesn't look correct and I'm beginning to think that not all of the match was captured. So maybe the one of Gerrard (No. 2) is misleading.

Here's an interesting one.......both verses Stoke this year.

Top one is Pepe........he wanders about a good bit and we pass back to him a lot.

On the other hand Joe Hart rarely sees the ball other than when it goes out of play. He also seems to favour the right hand side of the pitch (or else it was very windy that day).

Here's Hart verses Foster in the same match earlier this year.
It does look like the keepers from the top sides pass short whereas the lower teams hoof it long.

1 correct and it was Carragher. Shows how versatile our players can really be (or how I need to focus more on the players movements).

Drawn in by a bit of Rolfy ey, who isn't?

If you're unfamiliar with the Guardian Chalkboards then it's quite a good feature of the Guardian's football section.
These chalkboards allow you to view the match events, have a mess around with it and you'll see what I mean.

OK so here's the game.
These chalkboards allow you to view a players passes for the entirety of a game, stretching back to the 06-07 season.
The passes are generally the best way to see where a player is playing and his style of play.

Now, what I'd like is for everyone to have a go at matching the unnamed chalkboards below with the correct current LFC player.  These range from current matches to way back in the 06-07 season. Red is unsuccessful, blue is successful, white is a goal assist.

Most importantly though I'd like you to say WHY you think the player you have chosen is correct.

Let's have some fun.

I haven't read any of the above posts - gonna try this on face value... (yikes!)

1.  Carra.
Placement makes it look like the right-side of the CB pairing.  JC would be the obvious guess, but  I'm going more on the number of near-sideways and short passing, together with the fact he almost never got over the half-way line, and played a few long balls, several of which failed to find their mark.  I don't count Carra as a good passer, and his long balls are often more in hope than certainty...

2. Dirk Kuyt.
Pretty well covered the pitch, but mostly playing around the right side of midfiled.  Could be him or Stevie, based on the ground covered...

3. Albert Riera.
Left-sided midfielder, mostly on the outer edge.  The number of safely completed passes look more like Riera than Babel, Kewell or Luis Garcia, and all three would have been trying to score rather than pass once they got near the box...

4. Momo Sissoko Mascherano?
Shocking percentage of bad passes, whoever it was!  Since Momo is no longer with us... Gonna take a guess on

5. Fabio Aurelio.
Lots of play on the wing, mostly completed passes, and trying to cross to the strikers,  some of which were successful.

EDIT:
6. Xabi Lucas.
Hmmm, you got me for sure here.  I would think of Lucas (because so many of the completed passes were short range, just keeping the ball moving).  However, Lucas rarely takes corners, so that looks like Xabi (except I would have expected a few more long-range deliveries for Xabi).   D'oh - CURRENT players - no Xabi then!
