Do the new xbox's still have problems with rrod and open tray problems?
I have an xbox that has open tray problem....since I have 4 wireless controls and harddrive i'd like to just get the box of another xbox 360 and flash it. Get new fifa and madden. But if the new ones have problems then I'll prob get the new slim ps3.

Ive had a PS3 for 2 years and an Xbox Elite (Jasper) for a week, payed £155 with TW10 & COD4 for it after trading in some games... The only reason I purchased the 360 was the amount of my mates that own one and play COD online, although alot of them are buying a PS3 after the price drop.

The Xbox sounds like a knackered out hairdryer!

The PS3 is a great machine... wireless, free online gaming, great build quality, nice and quiet and it plays BluRay!

It caches to the hard disk, so if you install to HDD it tries to read it at the same time as the caching.

So it runs like it would on the PC.

I bought an Xbox 360 Premium years ago... still no RROD, but I very recently cancelled my Live subscription. My mates are switching over to PS3. The 360 is just too damned loud and the fact you have to even think about playing a game online I think is one of the factors for cancelling Live.

Admittedly the interface on the 360 and the Live experience are very very good compared to Playstation Network.

If there are any exclusives I want to play for the Xbox, for sure I'll go out buy them and play those games on it... but any cross platform games? PS3 now for me. All my mates switched to that so I guess so do I.

It's not loud to me, people go on like there's a 747 blasting off in their room. To be honest I was slightly concerned about reading jet-like noise of an Xbox360 before I got mine, but I took the leap and wondered what the fuss was about.

my 360 is horrendously loud, to the point of distraction, when loading games from the dvd

this is why i install all games to the hard drive, it's fine then, still louder than a ps3 but you wouldn't notice it at all when playing the game

Maybe I need my ears syringed, or maybe I don't play my games on mute to hear the Xbox360... but loading games is different, it must take about 10-20 seconds of fan noise before it settles down. So it's not that level of noise constantly, which is what some people are implying.

The thing with the PS3 is that it's better value than the Elite. For £50 more you get a BR player, free online gaming, a media centre (which is not to be sniffed at- I use the 'non gaming' side of the PS3 far more than playing games- always have as well) and little things which are better than the Xbox (iPlayer and wireless net access are a couple of things).

Even if you want to only play games, it'd be worth sticking an extra £50 and getting a PS3 in my opinion.

Of course, if there're certain games you want to play then go for the console which has those games as exclusives. I doubt that's the case though otherwise you wouldn't have wasted time asking on here?

But then to get an Elite upto PS3 specs you'd need a (now defunct anyway) HD DVD player add on (and settle for the now limited range of HD DVDs), a wireless adaptor and the XBL subscriptions every year. Not sure how good the Xbox is with an external hard drive stuck into it via USB to watch avis through or HD stuff through either.
