Birmingham City have completed the club-record signing of the striker Christian Benítez. The Ecuadorian has joined from the Mexican club Santos Laguna for £7.7m after personal terms were agreed last month.
"I am really happy to have signed for Birmingham City and am looking forward to playing for the Blues," said Benítez, who is the son of one of Ecuador's all-time leading goalscorers, Ermen Benítez.
"I think it is the right time for Christian Benítez to take on the challenge of the Premier League and I will be giving everything to score as many goals as possible and share in good times with this club."
Benítez is waiting for a work permit but Birmingham are confident that it will be a formality, as he has played the required number of games for his national team.
Benítez impressed for Ecuador at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and scored 31 goals in 58 games in the Mexican league over the last two seasons.
