My problem with the whole series goes back to a comment I made right at the start and the role of Webster in BoB. Sledge and Leckie are in the same position as Webster - observers and writers. But in BoB Webster is not one of the central characters, in fact the whole point of the episode where he does come to the fore, is the detachment he has from the rest.
Watching Sledge watching the horrors is really beginning to wind me up. I know it was horrible - I'm watching a marine carve the gold teeth out of a living man's skull - I don't need to see Sledge's horrified look to tell me how bad it is. I also can't help feeling that if he got off his arse a bit more and stopped gawping around, perhaps a few less of his fellow marines would be getting killed.
The central figure in BoB, Winters observed the horror around him and had a strong moral compass but he was also a brilliant soldier and a great leader of his men. I gave a fuck about Winter, Guarnier and the rest. Quite frankly I couldn't give a toss about Leckie, Sledge or Basilone for that matter.
