According to a match going Fiorentina fan on here, that whole Heysel celebration culture among their fans is a bit of a myth, and that the banner is a mark of genuine respect. He even posted a video of them singing 'Amo Liverpool' at a Milan game after Istanbul...

No, it isn't  :)

No mate, read some of the comments from the lads who made the trip, they were very well treated
and got a great reception, it was a big deal for them to have the Reds in town and the banner was
a testament to this.
Quote from: SwedenRed
Was the best organised away trip I have ever been at. None of the mass pannick getting in... No riot police... Treated very well. A tribute to the organisers and police of Firenze for this. They even gave all the fans free food and drink of course! The view was better than bernabeau... Well worth the 25£ ticket price. Nice fans, nice trip... Can't see us giving them  a free lunch though.

We admire Kop truly

the banner from the fiorentina fans is in the hands of our own lot now, don't know who though, it was passed over the top of our section at the end of the match after they'd paraded it on the pitch for us to see again

I also remember Prandelli's wife dying, the reception he got when he came out of the tunnel was really touching.

looking forward to seeing Mutu, Gilardino and Jovetic battle it out with us for top spot come matchday 6.

Yeah I saw that in Niketown in Chicago as well. My guess is that they probably knew it was 'soccer,' but figured it still worked for anybody that saw it. It was great to see them showing Shanks some respect though!

Why was Reina acting the big man anyway? Sure he did no more for Spains win than I did.

Niketown in midtown NYC is in Trump Tower.

They also had a massive photo of Crisco Ronaldo last time I went by there.  *hurl*

Yeah
Sorry mate.
But you bored me.  :(
How many times do I have to say that it DOESN'T refer to the facts at Heysel?
This is really the last time.

I think you don't know neither the twinning (and its request) between Fiorentina and Liverpool's supporter.

Please read it  :)
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N165884090925-1013.htm

Quote
Liverpool supporters travelling to Italy for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Fiorentina will be treated to a special 'fan zone' to mark the official twinning of the clubs' supporters groups

The event will be held within close proximity of the Stadio Artemio Franchi on the evening of the match and refreshments will be on offer as the two sets of fans celebrate their new bond.

The twinning will be rubber-stamped on Monday evening after the Merseyside Branch of the Liverpool Supporters Club accepted the request from the Collettivo Autonomo Viola.

"The Viola are very keen to chat to Liverpool fans so don't be shy and come along and say hello," said Dave Murphy of the LFC OSC Merseyside Branch.

"It all came about when the group of Fiorentina fans known as the Collettivo Autonomo Viola e-mailed our branch asking us to twin with them.

"They said, 'Florence has always had a strong admiration for your team and your fans, this is our opportunity to create a beginning of a friendship that will last and grow stronger over time.'

"It promises to be a great occasion, so if you are travelling to the game be sure to come along and meet some of our new friends."
The banner is only a consequence of the twinning between supporters.
No reference to Heysel.

I hope this is the last time I (try to) explain that.

Addio  :)

Bit of cynical thinking but you are probably right.
I'm sure "off the field" events were motivating factors behind the banner. Its a bit disturbing but that is what you get sometimes.

Lolzies. More chance of a wank off the pope than beating United, I'm afraid. It is beyond Benitez, apart from when they were at their lowest ebb, when we knocked them out of the FA Cup. They certainly aren't anywhere near there now.

What a shower of complete classless c*nts.  :wanker

Noticed on MOTD2 there were several Chelsea fans taking photos of Rafa, it reminded me of that picture of the Mancs taking pictures of Gerrard at OT last season.

Regarding Fiorentina, I heard Ultra groups in Italy have lost respect for them, I read this asking the question why. . . ?

Someone wrote the following, he knows Italian Ultra Culture inside out . . .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liverpool don't have any organised groups so the friendship doesn't really exist. Thanfully a lot of the liverpool fans present in Italy were against it anyway, they don't like the way it seemed to be based on the accident at heysels.

The Fiorentina fans were singing about heysels a lot during the game.

Collettivo (and a lot of groups who follow their lead) are a joke as they are like supporters clubs now. They take their orders from the club and have been involved in shameful incidents like grassing up other Fiorentina fans to the police, denying proper Fiorentina ultras access to the curva whilst acting as stewards, selling their material in the official club shop. In short they have been bought and paid for by the President Diego Delle Valle and they are not considered ultras anymore.

There are of course some genuine ultras left in Firenze but not many and certainly not in CAV and the groups who hang on their every word. Those ultras certainly didn't get involved in the embarassing courtship of Liverpool.

Having said all that there is no reason for anybody to stop liking or having respect for Fiorentina, just as long as you stay clear of CAV & Co.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interesting.  .  . I think its a good thing that Liverpool are recognised like this. . . Dont see why we have to go into background politics . . .
