So presumably, by that logic, if Torres doesn't score against any of the top 4 this season but goes on to score 24 goals in total then we should look to have him as a sub instead the season after?

Come on, doesn't matter who he's scoring against, the point stands that he's still got it, and doesn't deserve to be dropped to the bench whatsoever.

he dropped off massively towards the end of last season, and a comparision with torres is invalid - torres not scoring against any of the big 4 wouldnt be an issue as he's 25 and it'd likely be a blip, raul is 32 and it seems like he is in decline, plus they have two 21 year olds in higuain and benzema who should be starting ahead of him

Seriously now, please stop. He's nowhere fucking near being "in decline". He's had his best two seasons for 4/5 years last season and the one before. His movement is absolutely brilliant, his workrate is still phenomenal, and you're saying he should be benched because others are younger. Fucking pointless argument. If you're still scoring goals, still as fit as a fiddle, and still one of the hardest working team players on the pitch (if not THE hardest working team player) then you shouldn't be benched.

And the Torres comparison isn't invalid at all, because all you're doing is using someone's age to base an argument around. Other than that it's exactly the same thing. Quite honestly, if you're saying that Raul should be benched because Real have bought a few players this summer then you're just plain mental.

that redondo is a class act on and off the pitch. if i'm not mistaken, when he was injured he didn't accept his salary at milan.

from march to the end of may he scored 4 goals in 14 games (started all), compared to 20 in the previous 31 games - thats a massive dropoff in anyone's book and it does indicate a decline

And the Torres comparison isn't invalid at all, because all you're doing is using someone's age to base an argument around. Other than that it's exactly the same thing. Quite honestly, if you're saying that Raul should be benched because Real have bought a few players this summer then you're just plain mental.

it is invalid - players occasionally have off-years in their 20s (steven gerrard 2004-5 compared to 03/04 and 05/06 for example) and it is just that, an off year but look at his stats at the end of the season and its clear that there was a big dropoff from march, and not to mention that he got a total of 4 goals and 0 assists in 14 games against liverpool, barca, atleti, valencia, sevilla, juve and villareal, and 3 of those were in one game against sevilla

Below are the four towers that Madrid council and regional government allowed to be built on the land where Real Madrid used to have their training ground. Real Madrid got the selling rights of three of them and pocketed 500 million Euros that allowed them to erase their debt and have some money left over to buy a few Galacticos.

Although they have commercial names, these skyscrapers are popularly known as Torre Zidane, Torre Figo, Torre Beckham and Torre Ronaldo.

Will we see in the near future a Torre Kaka, a Torre Ronaldo II and a Torre Benzema?
I wouldn't be surprised if Florentino and his influences turn the city of Madrid in little Manhattan.

They are just in front of my office. This photograph was taken from the western side of the buildings. Apparently they are only 20% occupied at the moment. The one to the far right is still empty. The second from right has a 5 stars hotel, the far left has an embassy and other offices. This one was finished first before the rest of them and it has the most occupants. The second from left now also has occupants already.

Speaking about Real Madrid's team, so now it seems they will have:

                             Iker
Ramos/Arby - Albiol - Metzelder - Heinze
         Robben - Lass - ??? - Pretty boy
                    Kaká - Benzema

I don't quite remember what their team is usually.

They're talking about buying Ashley Cole now, apparantly he's pissed off that he's only getting £70k a week when some of the others are getting £100k, shame.

Cole would be a great signing. Defensively, he's brilliant.
It wouldn't be Liverpool if we didn't do it the hard way... ask Gareth Southgate.

C. Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema,...

I'm sure they didn't see the same things as my self when looking on the team of 08/09. Don't think they saw what Rafa (or Guardiola) saw either.

IMO Real's problem is their CM. The best possible signing for them would have been Mascherano or Senna. Or both. They are spending, they will improve, but not where they need it the most.

any chance of Julien Faubert getting in the Real team after his loan.....

From Wikipedia

His loan with Real Madrid was underwhelming and finished with only two appearances. During his loan spell he missed training when he mistakenly thought he had the day off, and was pictured asleep on the bench, and "touching his parts", during a Real Madrid game.

Interesting. Hm, 3 of those towers are sleek and modern, and one looks like some kind of Soviet misadventure from the 60's.

I'm sure what Florentino really wants is a Torre Perez, I hope he doesn't get any of it though. I'd like to see these post modern galacticos fail miserably, the cynicism is foul, and this group isn't nearly as likeable as the original.

footballing ability aside... it takes a mental manager with huge balls to drop Raul.

I think Robben might leave. We know that Valdano is a huge fan of Higuain & Perez are big fans of Higuain so he won't leave. Perez has also made the admission that Raul isn't undroppable, and will be competing for his place like any other striker.

Realistically, they may end up with Benzema, Higuain, RVN, Raul as their four strikers. Huntelaar and Negredo will probably leave as they need first team football in WC year.

I don't think they will play 4-1-3-2 either, I think their standard formation will be 4-2-3-1, or maybe even 4-3-3.

----------Cassilas
Ramos    Albiol    Pepe    LB
           Lass     CM
Ronaldo    Kaka    Higuain
              Benzema

or

----------Lass     CM
                  Kaka
Ronaldo     Higuain      Benzema

with the front three interchanging

I think Marcelo, Gago, Parejo, Torres, Raul will alll definitely stay too.

The problem with Valdano is he's too much of a fan to be a good manager. With time he refuses to get rid of the players he likes regardless of their position, and the balance becomes shite. This happened last time around, with an ageing side that imploded on them with huge salaries and egos. The sacking of Del Bosque signed the end of that era.

Valdano, not unlike some posters here, thinks a real side can be managed as in Football Manager. This is shortsighted even for a club with Real's pockets.
