Great album so far, imported it onto the itunes and have not stopped listening to it!

Songs Hello, Beautiful, Bagpipes From Baghdad and Insane are all crackers along with the more known We Made You, 3 A.M and Crack A Bottle...

Shady man is back with a vengence

Didn't he balloon to 17 stone and almost die of pneumonia a year or two ago? And, didn' t he promise never to bring out another album?

Lyrics definitely are not Eminem at his best, but his ryhme schemes and flow are as good as its ever been. Overall I'd give it a 7 and with the two bonus songs probably a 7.5.

I listened up to "Stay Wide Awake" before turning it off. It seems shite to me. Mind you, there are very few artists who can remain interesting after a couple of albums unless they completley re-invent themselves each time.. which Eminem has not done. He is a parody of himself now.

Are you having a Rafa Benitez?

'We Made You' is probably up there with some of his most famous singles!

If you don't rate him, why comment on this thread?...pointless!

Because it's a discussion maybe?

Solid album, no way near the first two, better than Encore though.

What's with the stupid voice he puts on though? When he's not doing it, his flow is incredible.

Not heard it yet, but I'm nervously intrigued...

If you had to compare it to any of his other albums, which would it be?

I was a massive fan of his through Infinite, Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers, I thought he was a complete genius back in the first half of his career. Not the best out there, but up there in his own way and deservingly so. I then got annoyed with him for going commercial, getting obsessed with production and pretty much selling out as a hip hop artist. That may sound harsh - but I was a massive fan of Eminem, so I don't say it lightly! I was so disppointed with half of the Eminem Show and Encore. (Not to mention the fact he killed 2pac's music when he got his hands on it - but that's a completely different conversation).

Is this album really back to the good old days or is it just another Encore?

or .... an attempt to recreate the success of "The Real Slim Shady" by doing.. exactly the same thing? Except that no one gives a shit anymore because it's not clever or original, and simply shows a total lack of creativity... Just the same shit from the mainstream music industry

Eminem did the "crazy" thing on the SSLP, told his life story on the MMLP, and apart from brief moments when his undoubted talent shines through, has had nothing to say since

I listened to the album several times and gave my opinion, isn't what this thread is about. and believe it or not I used to like Eminem, and I think the reason why I liked Beautiful and Deja Vu is because It reminds me of Marshall Mathers LP where you are just awed by the lyrics.

But hey am not huge Hip Hop/Rap music fan so take that for what its worth.

Glad this thread was started because I hadn't dared listen till I read this. Started off listening to the tracks others recommended and they're good - still not Eminem at his best - but good. Bagpipes from Baghdad is a fantastic bit of sampling and a good song but not as good lyrically as beautiful or deja vu.

Unfortunately, beyond a few tracks (and this is on first listen) I agree with whoever said he's become a parody of himself. It's just not him anymore. Reason being
I think the reason why I liked Beautiful and Deja Vu is because It reminds me of Marshall Mathers LP where you are just awed by the lyrics.
even tracks like these don't come close to blowing your mind like MMLP did, and everything he does sounds weak in comparison. I did like the Eminem Show, it was a bit different and maybe a bit 'tighter' than anything he'd done before but the truth is he hasn't got anything new to say and even with good producers behind him his remaining talent (his delivery) doesn't save it.

If MMLP blew your mind like it did mine, you must surely struggle to feel anything but hollow after listening to this.

i actually love this.

there's 2 sides to Eminem, Slim Shady and Marshall Mathers, I absolutely hate the pop driven Marshall Mathers but Slim Shady is something to behold.
Talking about his drug dependencies, the way he lyrically puts that across is awesome. Loved the content in Insane, Hello and My Mom.

Love how he moans again about his mom but realises he is his mom "I am my mom".
Insane is an absolutely fucking genius of a track, a fictional rape by a fucked up stepfather is put across in a mental fashion, great flow.

Dr Dre on every beat bar one samples some great shit.

I guess most of you are used to the shitty hiphop of Florida and likes about cars and money and bitches. This goes back to some proper rapping about serial killing, rape, drugs :P but really about the sickening minds of one of the greatest lyricists ever.

Of course most Eminem "fans" love MMLP and Eminem Show, but in my mind they were always pop orientated (like 50 Pence and his faggot ass crew). Slim Shady was the real rapper doing it for real hiphop. (8 Mile soundtrack, Forget About Dre, Guilty Conscience, Go To Sleep could be considered along these lines)

I think most people who criticise Eminem nowadays do so because they love the Eminem you're talking about - the Slim Shady part of him that was completely different to everything else out there. That side of him has definitely been lacking over the last two albums, which is why many of his "fans" hated them. You say Eminem fans loved The Eminem show, but I've never really had that impression before.

That was the album where he began to sound really commercial and the slim shady side of him felt forced and all a bit of an act. I don't think the same could be said for MMLP - I don't agree that was pop orientated. The shift came between MMLP and The Eminem Show for me. Slim Shady will always be by far his best album imo, totally agree with you on that, but MMLP was right up there and still felt real. Cannot believe you can even think of comparing that album to Fifty Cent  :o , who is not capable of getting anywhere near it on any level!!

:lmao

FUCK. RIGHT. OFF.

If you think this is real rap you wanna stop listening to MTV, this knobjockey sounds like the crazy fucking frog, and his recent records are as annoying as it.

If you think Eminem is the greatest lyricist of all time I feel sorry for you big style, all he's doing is treading over old ground (shock horror it's another song about his ma) but because his star is fading he's having to crank up the shock factor for a new audience, the people who listened to the Slim Shady LP have surely grown out of his mix of comedy rap and shock jock style tactics.

Flo-Rida my arse, try listening to some DOOM (and all his alter egos):

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/zNK7WO7_lDA&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/zNK7WO7_lDA&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1</a>

Immortal Technique

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/qggxTtnKTMo&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/qggxTtnKTMo&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1</a>

Murs

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/hOTQJnDfbNY&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/hOTQJnDfbNY&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1</a>

For rappers around NOW that are better than him, and and to be be calling him one of the best lyricists ever puts him in direct competition of the likes of:

Nas

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/Wbq3axLwamE&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/v/Wbq3axLwamE&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1</a>

To name just one of dozens.

Eminem is nothing more than the new Vanilla ice, making comedy songs for MTV and trying to resurrect his old albums by adding some more shocking lyrics.

His lyrics aren't pertinent to modern life, relative to his current situation, or even entertaining to people who have heard it all before from him, it's the same sorry shit that he's been peddling for years.

Had his moments back in the day but has never been more than a third rate hit and miss sideshow.

He jumped the shark a long while ago when he started making comedy singles that could easily have been penned and performed by Weird Al Yankovic - and with the style of video he has now I'm thinking that's already happened.

His message has remained the same throughout his career only the delivery and violence of it has changed.

He's become an embarrassing parody of himself.

Degs,

What did you think of the Marshall Mathers LP?

For me his best work and a quality album.
I was 14 when it came out so naturally I thought it was the best fucking thing ever.
It was when he reached his peak, and kids like me were the target audience of the time - I fucking loved it, listened near enough every day.

Looking back it's still a decent album, he could be comedic (real slim shady) without jumping off at the deep end (a sad sign of things to come though) while he rapped about what was happening in his life (the way I am) as much as what had gone before - which was a good insight and felt like he was being "real" rather than nowadays saying anything he can just to shock (getting addicted to pills because of his ma).

In the new album I honestly think the title is a piss take, in the title "Relapse" he's basically admitting that he's trying to tread over old ground and resurrect what he got right. If the MMLP came out today I obviously wouldn't be as into it having had my ears opened to many many many other artists but I'd still recognise it's a cracking album.  His current one is forced, unoriginal, unbelievable, and whiny.  He can try as hard as he wants to recreate Stan but he'll fail, what made the Marshall Mathers LP brilliant was that the people listening to it were probably listening to something like that for the first time, if he simply trys to do another Stan you won't be impressed because you've heard this before.

This record isn't for you it's for your little brother, who has just got his first CD player aged 14 - when the sad fact is he'd still probably get more out of the MMLP, like we did, because Eminem's so out of touch with real life that the only thing that changes in his songs are the current "hot" celebrities.

Some decent tracks on it, when he's not trying to rap in funny voices, not a patch on SSLP or MMLP but better than the pop he churned out between 2002 and today.
My favourite eminem track is still Rabbit Run from the 8 Mile OST tho

Great album. Eminem back to his best imo. Reminds me a lot of marshall mathers lp (obvious parallels with the return of the steve berman skit and ken kaniff) but also in much of his lyrcis and content I see resemblances of the old school eminem that was so great. Beautiful, deja vu, bagpipes from baghdad and my mom are all brilliant. 9.5/10 for me.
