My favourite scene:

Also, last night's Mad Men episode was every bit as excellent as Blackwater. I already mentioned it in the Mad Men thread.  I really do think that last night was a landmark night in TV drama. I'm not an expert in those things but I can't think of two more exhilaratingly good episodes being served up on the same night.

Huh, didn't even notice that somehow....

I saw someone on a film forum I frequent say something along the lines of 'remind me why we still watch movies?' this morning after watching this and Mad Men (haven't got round to it yet). I've been thinking that way for a while now, there are moments in this show, Mad Men, Breaking Bad etc in recent years that have been up there with any movie moment in recent years. That's without going back to The Wire/The Sopranos/Deadwood as well.

Yep, I had missed that as well, and your suggestion for how to fix it, although a bit clunky, would have totally worked and could definitely have been pulled off by that cast, crew and director.

Agree again.  Good art/entertainment is good regardless of the medium.  I believe that the standard of writing and acting has bridged the gap between cinema and TV, although I do feel that cinema is still more of a director's playground, with, however, increasing examples of TV dramas like Breaking Bad and Mad Men showcasing some brilliant camera work.  Let's also not forget comedy in this.  In the past 20 years or so, I have more fond memories of TV comedies than comedies on film (Wes Anderson films aside, and I wouldn't categorize his films simply as "comedies").

The nose part is not true in the show.
I guess not. In any case; he looks way better than what I expected him too - I guess make him more likeable to the audience.

About the second thing in your message.

Indeed he was; and quite nicely done too. Book readers will spot it, while non readers won't be confused about something they don't realise.

And the Rains of Castemere at the end :wellin

Great episode, more so as I haven't read the books and didn't know what was going to happen.

Spoilers, safe to read after watching the Blackwater episode.

Perfect. Just perfect. The balance of true-to-the-book and deviating-from-the-book could not have been better.

Rory McCann got about as much screentime as he has in the entirety of the other 18 episodes, and was fucking excellent as The Hound. Knew it was going to be a special episode as soon as he had that scene with Bronn near the start. Great scene with Sansa too.

The National's version of Rains Of Castamere is a dirge, but I love it.

Meh to be honest, battle scenes are battle scenes. Would rather know how the other subplots are getting on.

Really envy the people who haven't read the books. Not that I'm not enjoying it, but I find it impossible to watch it and not be comparing every little fucking thing to the book. Even the things I really like about the tv show that aren't in the book are still a bit distracting.

It's even hard to talk about the show on this thread without giving stuff away or hinting at future plot points. For example take Redcap's today(as an example), nearly every one is referencing the book in some way.

They done that last year, ignored the Lannister vs Robb's men battle and just showed the beginning and the end. If they'd have done anything similar this time there'd have been an uproar, especially because this battle was such a big part of the second book

I still maintain that a few of the Breaking Bad episodes are some of the greatest TV I'll ever see, but this was pretty damn good.

I'd like to think it's all Davos' fault for not bringing Melisandre, but then she did say in one of the earlier eps that "Death by fire is the purest death". Maybe she knew one way or the other that Stannis wasn't going to win at Blackwater.

Regardless, it pisses me off when people say he's boring. They won't be saying that in a few years ;)

That's the reason I don't post in here Bob.I watch it on my own and I'm pick, pick. pick.

I try and watch two together, one's not enough,it,s about 4 chapter's an episode so two episodes is just right.

Fuck that was brilliant.

I love The Hound, glad he is finally progressing.

Massive spoiler that mate, should say beforehand when it's due incase someone think it's from this weeks episode or something.

And in answer to your question... (don't read unless you've read further than A Storm of Swords

Might want to add a book 3 spoiler warning to that mate...

Watched it again, just as great. McCann and Hedley's performances stand out even more, pitch perfect from both of them. Bronn, as ever, just about steals the episode.

Did notice the stag armour at the end this time, could've been a bit more obvious like.

Some top notch gore as well, at least two people split in half, Tyrion's leg chopping, Stannis' man get his head squashed by a rock :D

Good to hear next weeks episode is 70 plus minutes long. I imagine we won't see anything from Kings Landing so there is plenty of time to wrap up Dany, Robb + Cat, Dany, Theon and Jon's stories. Can't bloody wait.

Are you for real?

The characters were laid bare in this battle. The hound, Tyrion, Sansa, The Queen, Stannis.

As someone who has been reading these books since 96, I started a little bit underwhelmed at first, boy did that disappear.

Fucking awesome.

Huge credit to Neil Marshall for his direction in this episode too.

That must rank as one of the best battle scenes on either big screen or small screen in recent years.
The wildfire part was simply stunning, and the hand-to-hand combat stuff was awesome.

Oh, and if anyone thinks of telling what happened to a couple of the main characters without putting it in Big Fucking Spoilers, I'm going to go all Bronn on them.

Brilliant.

Yep, they've been building to it all season, and I imagine it's going to be the big crazy episode closer, like the Dany scene that ended the first season.

Please use clear spoiler warnings like Redcap's above.Went on youtube half an hour ago to enjoy once again the brilliant song at  the end of the episode and some c*nt spoiled the shit out of everybody about the fate of a major character.

Anyway it was a truly brilliant episode that had everything.Character development, excellent acting, great direction and some epic battle scenes.Couldn't be more enjoyable methinks.Such a shame my joy was tainted by that spoiling c*nt right after.
