The only let down for me was the shortness.

I played this and Gun at about the same time, so I get parts mixed up. Was it this one that had those crazy twin brothers throing dynamite?

Wild-West is such an untapped area in gaming, could be brilliant, if they nail the vibe.

Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive is the best Western game.

Poorly made? GTA IV looked brilliant, had great physics, decent driving, decent combat, the only things letting it down were massively repetitive missions and a shite story.

I'm somewhat with Smiff on this. If I get this game I'll not be off exploring, just sticking to the main plot.

Open world games now need a serious kick up the arse to keep them interesting, the whole sheen of being able to go where you want when you want has worn off. GTA IV just about got away with it.

It's still a sound concept, but needs fleshing out with a great story and all those other parts..let's be honest though, the wild west is a more interesting place than yet another urban sprawl.

Exactly, the driving on that was better than some racing games, was boss flying round in lambos etc. The next couple of games will be fucking class, can't wait.

GTA does many things 'good' just doesn't do enough things 'great'. All i want from Read Dead Redemption, is kickass gun battles, some snappy dialogue wrapped around a good story and superb visuals. Don't waste my time having to ride a horse from a to b, have to take out some annoying bint out on dates. All that does is get in the way of a good shoot 'em up.

I would suggest Bethesda to counter your arguement.  There was MORE than enough to do in Fallout 3 without sticking to the main plot.  80+ hours to be frank.

yeah, there's loads to do, the problem is that it's the same thing over and over and over

go to A, get mission, travel to B, shoot person, return to A, get another mission, go to C, shoot person, return to A, get another zzzzzzzzz

but if you are following a story arc when doing these things it helps, rather just completing a number of missions which are all pretty much identical and don't further the story to any worthwhile degree

The only way I'm going to be arsed going from A to B on a Horse in this game is if I can get the boys to follow me, in the same way that in The Lost and Damned you always had 'yer boys' following you in a gang and their interactions with each other. I mean can you honestly be arsed going across a literal desert on yer todd?

Also, it'd appear the last 'Sandbox City' game I'll be getting will be Prototype, and then I don't think I'll be after another one for a long time. They're all based in cities in America that look alike and the only one that was any good was San Andreas because of it's scope. They all look the exact same, especially Saints Row 2, which whilst being a fun game, had the most generic city I've ever seen in a video game.

The only thing this new Red Dead game has going for it is that it's based in the Wild West, where not many games have been based upon. If that wasn't the case I wouldn't be giving this a lick of attention.

Looks brilliant, replayability looks great considering you can go either one side and be an honourable cowboy or be a proper nasty bastard, never really been interested in the Fable series' way of doing things but this game looks badass.

Collecting bounties (with the option of them being dead or alive) is a brilliant idea and no doubt when they were mentioning that the game engine has been designed so that anything can happen, you'll have your own bounty and might get ambushed by rival gangs every now and then in the open world.

Looks good but a lot like Gun with better graphics. I thought Gun was a great game and I'm playing Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood at the moment which is good but not as good as Gun.

I'll definitely get this when it comes out though.

Check out Red Dead Revolver, which came out at a similar time to Gun. Both are very good games.
