------------------

The film was just spot-on. Well thought-out, well-written, well-directed etc. Everything was very well done. The SFX were fantastic, but just there to tell the story, which was satisfyingly complex. There's another layer beneath that that only South Africans will really understand.

Man with stupid rubber lobster claw also turns into king prawn,  and Colin? and shrimp go to space.

just watching it now on my computer.  When they first go in to clear the slums he, Van de whatever, says " we go shack to shack and get them to sign the form. first one is  EX Liverpool 7"   It's at 11:30 on my marker.  Am I hearing that right and what's that about?

I went to see this again today and checked out that photo. It's not a picture of Tanya holding a new baby. It's a much older woman. I am guessing it is a picture of either Tanya's or Wikus's mum holding them as a baby; most likely Wikus as a baby.

Excellent movie.

Not often you get the main 'hero' in a movie basically being a self motivated wanker all the way through (Darth Vader?) which is what Wikus was. Special effects were superb, and the shots of the ship above the city were faultless really. Not one shot did it look out of place in the light of the scene (sunset, dusk, night) and for the budget, they performed miracles really.

Extra points for calling the main Alien Christopher. Hilarious.
Oh, and Wikus 'Fook' was superb. Had everyone pissing themselves at my screening, even if it wasn't intentional!

I was thinking about this after I went to see it a second time.

The actual fact that they find out humans aren't alone in the universe isn't really a big issue in this film. The main issue is 'where do we put these 'prawns'? and also how they can take advantage of their advanced weaponry.

Not 'wow!!!! Aliens!!!! We're not alone!!!!! No one has really asked these aliens where they came from or why they're here or maybe they have and I wasn't listening properly.

Surely in real life, if this indeed did happen, there would be millions of people flocking to Johannesburg from every country in the world, just to see these aliens, maybe even creating a booming tourist industry for South Africa. I know I'd want to go see them with my own eyes.

I would also expect the major powers of the world  (US, EU, Russia) and other organisations to take control of the 'prawns' or at least help S Africa out with their problem.

Oh well, mustn't ask too many questions.

Also the fact the aliens look like giant fucking cockroaches might have to do with the lack of a booming tourist industry.

Thats kind of the point I took out of the film  - you have more sympathy and empathy with Christopher than with Wikus.
