Thank god for that. Was worried that ITV were going to get them again, what with their utterly shite coverage of the FA Cup highlights this season.

ITV shouldn't be allowed anywhere near live sport

Great news. They are the lesser of two evils. I think however if they tried to get some decent pundits in who were not just playing up to the cameras they could actually get some good coverage.

I would love for a day where they could show live league football, but I don't think we will ever see that day again.

BBC not perfect but 1000% better than ITV.
Football has reached the ninth gate of farce and pathetic, unbelievable trite nonsense. It's supposed to be a game and it's turned into pantomime, hype, quilts and bellends.

To be fair they do a decent job of the F1 season, but they've lost that aswell.

But what about the Robbie Earle comedy factor. A man who should have his own show.

Was pondering this the other day; what with the dawn of the 'red button' era, could they not give an option to turn the commentary off?

I for one would love to switch off the commentary and just listen to the crowd as I'm sure others would, or am I alone?

But the BBC have Garth Crooks and Ray Stubbs for that.

True, It'd be a laugh to see them all on one show though.....presented by John Barnes.  ;D

Hooray for that! ITV's highlight coverage is so fucking shite! All their camera angles are so low down you can barely see what is happening plus you have the thickest of half wits airing their 'valid' opinions when really they should be learning more from the school of Garth Crooks because they make dumb ole Garth look like a wise, thoughtful footballing scholar. Fuck ITV, fuck Andy Townsend and fuck you!

I expect I'll get a right battering for this, but I think Andy Townsend is OK.  Has he said something out of turn about LFC that I don't know about?

Don't really care who gets the show, but can't they have somebody who sounds like he cares about football ? With all the ex-footballers we could have somebody new every week to sit next to Lineker. Just imagine the boozer when Gary Ne-vile comes on. Magic that !

This was never in doubt. ITV have no cash left after securing FA Cup, England and Champions League rights, so the only real contender to the BBC was Five, who were always unlikely to succeed.

im sure BBC do in there live games you can choose commentary, 5live or just crowd or with sky if you had a 5.1 system you could just detatch the centre speaker as that carries commentary

I hate ITV for the cup, but it doesn't seem right if we don't have the CL games on there, prob more for sentimental values than anything though.
