A WELL-KNOWN Liverpool pub at the heart of Mathew Street’s musical heritage has shut.
Directors of The Rubber Soul are seeking advice from a north west firm of insolvency experts.
Today, business leaders said it was a huge blow for Liverpool’s night-time economy.
Bar staff were originally told the closure was temporary but had started looking for other jobs fearing the decision could be long-term.
Rumours have also been rife within the bar and club industry that Rubber Soul was in financial difficulty.
Today, Alan Tomlinson, partner at Tomlinsons, which specialises in business recovery and insolvency procedures in Liverpool and Manchester, said: “We are advising the directors of The Rubber Soul to establish the best way forward.
“The Rubber Soul was closed last weekend before we were brought in. At the moment it is still closed and we are assessing the position.
“It will be a formal insolvency procedure.”
