From DNA Dave (a good mate of Bobby's - taken from The Rattle (raotl.co.uk)):

Quote
We took our last ride with Bobby yesterday. After years of late departures due to lateness or too may Stellas the day before it was fitting that everyone was on time and, more remarkably, sober. The coach was a freebie from Formby Coaches, a nice gesture and another mark of respect for the man. We went up Scottie and into St Domingo Road. The crowd outside the church was not as big as the crowd outside the Attaturk, but only just. It was a fantastic turn out. Inside the church it was standing room only. Players and officials past and present mingled with Irregulars, Bootle Bucks, the lads from the Holt and the Globe crew. The were people who had flown in from Norway, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. That was the measure of the man.

The service for funny and poignant. Some of the stories about Bobby were hilarious, yet you only had to look at the grief being expressed by some members of his family to realise the enormity of their loss. Afterwards the cortege went around Bobby's beloved Anfield. The front of the Kop was bedecked with banners, and the flags were all at half-mast.

We went straight to the Dockers' Club. The scenes from that night wil live with me forever. I don't know how many people it is supposed to hold, but it was filled to over-flowing. The queue for the bar was longer than those for St Etienne, and it was a miracle that the buffet lasted as long as it did. The lad singing on stage did a valiant job, but no one was really paying that much attention. The real act was when Philly McEwan, Winny, Philly Aspinall and Lenny got up to belt out such classics as 'We Won It 5 Times', 'Johnny Barnes', 'Liverbirds Upon My Chest' and 'The Bus To Villa Park'.

Someone said to me, it may have been in the Dockers Club or the Globe or the Big House, that Bobby wouldn't have appreciated people making a fuss about him, and that he never saw himself as anything more as an ordinary fan. Well I'm sorry Robert but you were far more than just an ordinary fan, you were, and always will be a legend. Whenever Liverpool fans sit down in an alehouse to talk about going to the game, your name will be mentioned. It was a pleasure and priveliege knowing you, your memory will never fade.

YNWA.

In a week dominated by stories of takeovers, court cases and a world ending 1-1 draw the above words by Dave, for me , sum up my Liverpool Football Club and my culture....
Well I hope you live long now, I pray the Lord
your soul to keep
I think I'll be going before we fold our arms
and start to weep
I never thought for a moment that human life
could be so cheap
'Cos when they finally put you in the ground
They'll stand there laughing and tramp the
dirt down

I was in work yesterday afternoon but did think about him. Glad there was such a fantastic turnout, not surprising. And thanks for the photos shanklyboy, great to see Walton Breck Rd at its best.

RIP Bobby, sorely missed.

Four years ago today, had a few in his memory when we got back from Mancland last night. God knows what he'd make of giving a manager 6 months and what has happened in the time since he's been gone.

An amazing man that will be forever revered by all those who met him. Did so much for so many.

Remember coming back home on the train from Bristol in the late seventies, and I was sat near him and I told him  we have got a few night matches coming up Bobby I will have to go on the sick as I have no holidays left. And he advised me to put my job first and dont take time off work, but With me being  young I wouldnt listen to his advise. Bobby R I P a true Gentleman and Red.
