Hi Nige

Owing to not posting much, I can't PM you. There's four of us coming out, arriving tuesday afternoon. One has a fucked knee, so there's three up for a game (two of us played in Milan last year) and one cameraman! All defenders/midfielders. Pm me with your e mail and I can give you any more info you need, otherwise hopefully see you tuesday.

Just to confirm I sadly can't be there.

thanks to those who've told me your preferred positions so far - don't forget to include your real first names too.

Looks like "manager" will be Gary and on-field captains Harry & J-P

I'll post something like a squad list by Monday morning.

I guess apart from socks and shorts the other thing I brought along last time was the banner, to 'politicise' it  a bit for any media/photos.

Would be great if we could have a banner referring to the 20th anniversary of H'boro coming up. Anyone ? But just bring any flags you do have !

Oh and everyone - please try to make a contribution to Harry's incredible journey for the Ray of Hope Appeal.

Nige,

you'll no doubt be missed mate. Be good if you could get a squad list up before 4am monday as that's when we start on our way over to Madrid. Just incase I can't get to a computer after that.

Neil,

About to PM you.

Well done to you both for taking the time once again to organise another supporters match. I know everyone always enjoys them. On behalf of all the players and supporters on the sideline THANKS VERY MUCH,

Gary

Just P-Med you Neil.

Sorry (to Gary especially) that I didn't get this list up earlier - can people print it out and give it to Gary before the start so at least he's got something to work on (though it never works out that everyone turns up)

Manager: Gary Brown ( AKA Matchball)

clearly there are quite a lot more people who've said they'll play than those that haveP-Med me to confirm in the last couple of days, but 11 people have done so:

Keeper:
HARRY - if present and fit after the first leg of his epic fund-raising jouney from Valencia.

Centre backs: MIVI (EL CAPITANO)  & Adam Brown
Possible full backs: Boywonder's 2 mates  Jon & Andy

Midfield :

Heath ( AKA Boywonder )  - right
Chris (AKA Yafoy ) - Mascherano role
Mark (steelers Mark) - centre mid
Scouser Jonny - other wing ?

Forwards :

Dan Brown (but possible keeper if Harry's not there ?)
J-P

Sub:  Mooro

Official photographer : Boywonder's  mate  "Injured Andy"

Others who seem pretty keen in the posts above from last week are GeeFJay, Gnaume, CM McCarthy, Daz, and I haven't gone back and checked page 1 for everyone else who originally expressed interest but YES WE NEED YOU ALL !! It tends to work out on these occasions that everyone who turns up gets as much footy as they want (if not slightly more than they want ;-) ) !!

Wish i could be there ..........GOOD LUCK !!

Managed to get to a computer, Neil  has text me starting 11 ( if all turn up! ). Will sort the rest at location Nige. The more the merrier, hopefully at least 11 to start and a few subs. Sunny in Madrid, not many Liverpool about at the moment but we tested the Red Corner Bar and the Triskel out yesterday, both just about 4 euro a pint..............watch out for Moores bar near the square, a rip off at 5 euro.

Seem to be plenty of tickets about for the Atletico v Porto match for those intending to go.

See those of you who attend the supporters match later.....................anybody heard from Harry................plenty of scooters about but no Harry, yet!

The lads that turned up did ok nige. It was an uphill task from the beginning as there were several no shows for whatever reasons ( probably all lying legless somewhere in Madrid ). 7 of the squad turned up and one of those Daniel Brown had a knee twice the size it should have been due to a previous football injury. Ross Hazeldene who never usually plays the game stepped in along with 53 year old Ken and a Spanish Red supporter, giving us a starting 10!
None the less we took a 1-0 lead through the Spanish Red before boywonders mate ( dont know if it was John or Andy put into his own net for 1-1. Mivi not to be out done scored with a cracking back header, into his own net!
They then went 3-1 up before Mivi made amends for his earlier mishap with a well taken goal.
With further injuries occuring we had to swap the team about again as Daniel Brown took over in goal in the second half and Me ( Gary ) at 48yrs and not having played for years had to play up front. Despite all of this Adam Brown struck the crossbar with a good header from another of Heaths excellent corners and we put the pressure on them late on.
With probably a minute to go a back heal deflected off a defender and looped over the oppositions keeper before the defender pawed the ball off of the goaline, for a stonewall penalty. but the spanish referee felt otherwise and the stadium lights then went out on a brave reds performance!
A 3-2 defeat but a valiant effort against sporting opposition. Thanks for all of the hard work sorting it out Neil.

Gary, great match report. Can't believed you were robbed by a ref who is actually one of our biggest Reds in Madrid (for his whole life)!!!

I'm really sorry we couldn't get you lads a proper "Real Madrid" team last night, but I suppose all's well that ends well.

After 3 weeks of trying every possible avenue (Madrid club/branches/colleagues/friends' dogs' vets' uncles' parachute instructors' other friends) the opposition we provided was a "World XI" (Madrid Reds+mates) with only one Madrid fan. Fooking disgrace!!!! - Atleti provided a full XI+subs who got all the beers in. Friendships for life made there.

We spoke to:

Real Madrid CF
Fundación Real Madrid
The lady in charge of peñas (branches) at Real Madrid CF
The Federation of Real Madrid CF peñas in the Madrid Region
5 local peñas individually, plus a huge one: "Peña 5 Estrellas"
Tried to post messages in and contacting the Mods of http://www.realmadridfans.org (posting denied)

...not one single reply...

Real Madrid Radio covered the match and my mate's Bluenose wife told them, in fluent Scouse Spanish and not holding anything back, that after 3 weeks of asking everywhere, no Madrid fans could be arsed to turn up.

Well in, all those involved. Mivi was majestic, I see. :) Photos?

Re: Real Madrid fans - I was trying to find a team for my uni old boys' footy tour in May (we're going on the week end Real are at home, so it made sense). Started a few months ago. Got a provisional "Yeah, we'll sort something out" from their Penas forum, but when it came to doing something concrete (in January), silence was the response.

So, instead I went on futmadrid.com and opened it to any old Tercera Regional side, as well as visiting the AFC Atletico team's website. Amongst several positive responses, the Atletico lads (who were involved in organising the October RAWK game) were the 1st within a few days. Completely spot on, rather different breed to the Real lot, it seems.

Well played everyone, especially Neil for all his efforts and Gary for management skills !

Organising supporters' footy in Europe does involve a lot of frustration - I remember weeks of posts on PSV sites in 2006 and e-mails to Marseille fans' groups in 2007, all of which drew a blank. Even at a conference last summer of European fans' bodies, the only worthwhile contacts I made were with the Atletí group, Señales de Humo, so that's why once the draw was made I knew who contact. It was their first outing into fans' footy matches, but it won't be the last I'm sure ...

Let's carry on being the trailblazers for this, and being proud of it - let's all spread the word online especially (I'm going to go back on those PSV and Marseille sites, for example, with reports of our games in Madrid - and tell them that we have had similar games in Barcelona, Milano and Liverpool !).

And I'm going to have a word with our contacts in the FSI - Football Supporters International - about getting some professional help to set up some web pages promoting these grass-roots fans' footy events. The idea would be to build up a database of willing organisers and participants across Europe so that making the initial contacts would get easier and easier every season.

Once again, well played to all the Reds and Spanish fans involved.

uh....................

Mivi not to be out done scored with a cracking back header, into his own net!

totally pissed i couldn't turn up on time at the same location again, i was one of four in the bleachers that turned up dead on 9pm as you were just kicking off  :(

Had shorts and a t-shirt as last minute i thought i'd give it a crack, was trying to get my mate peter pan to have a go but he was being a pussy even though he's more slender and fitter than me!

Reason it took me so long was we went to a different metro, hospital, went the wrong way and half the people near to this location hadn't heard of that yaberra street so i took a picture and showed the cabby and got there within 15mins!

i'll put the picture up when i get home tonight for any future games to make it easier to find  :D

also good to see Miv and morro in action again  ;D

Cheers mate, sorry you found the 3 daftest cabbies in Madrid.

BTW for anyone who knows Harry Trow and his mad moped mission, I've now added a Facebook Group here http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=54626353861  to complement http://appealmobile.blogspot.com/

Met up with several of the Madrid Reds last week. Firstly popped into the Triskel ( their home bar ) on the monday and met the landlady Wendy. Such an informative and lovely person, good looking too! Even met a guy who used to live only a few miles down the road from us, he lived in Stevenage, such a small world.
Thoroughly enjoyed the supporters match, where again the Madrid Reds and mates were very sporting. Shame about the dodgy ref though turning down our stonewall penalty but he certainly tried to make up for it by organising a taxi for us from the Red Corner bar later in the evening.
The Red Corner bar was where we met Neilt for the first time, although he had provided me with plenty of info before the supporters match as well as a welcome text when we arrived in Madrid. What a quality guy he is, he must have helped loads of Liverpool supporters before, during and after the match, including the legendary Harry Trow ( who I believe he let stay at his flat and also helped arrange a replacement mobile phone for him ).
Thanks from all of us who you helped Neil, thanks for being an excellent host for the city of Madrid and of course the Madrid Reds.
Anyway after drinking with some of the Madrid reds at the Red Corner bar on the tuesday, we then moved onto the Triskel with them and continued to enjoy the rest of the day and early hours of wednesday.
We took to the local bars and the Plaza Mayor on the wednesday before moving onto the Bernabeu to watch the match, so we didn't see Neil or the Madrid Reds again before we came home but thoroughly enjoyed their company and hope to meet up again in the future with what must be one of the 'top draw' Liverpool supporters clubs worldwide. Madrid Reds, you are truly legends!
