« on: December 1, 2008, 10:46:34 PM »
Its dead, isn't it?

I'm only 21. I can't claim to have been there in the 60s, 70s and 80s. I'm also away at university so for the past three seasons, I've not been to as many as I usually do.

But its dead as a doornail, even I can tell that.

Our fanbase is infested with clueless dickheads who don't know/understand football. Sign Ben Arfa, sign Owen, drop Kuyt, drop Carragher, drop Arbeloa. Fucking clueless.

It is infested with people who don't get behind them. They come for the daytrip and expect to be entertained, or they're handed a ticket off a mate in work and don't understand the traditions anymore.

We're run by two American c*nts who couldn't be less Liverpool if they tried.

I don't know when it died, but it did.

It just isn't the same as before, and its shite.
Fuck youse all, stream/telly watching idiots.

agreed, your right. I don;t want to sound like a c*nt but i jibbed off going to home games since the start of this season (minus euro games), and even away games are getting worse some what.

Look, the team aren't getting the results, i'm as unhappy as anyone with some decisions and performances.

But, THIS is the time we need to show ourselves and be counted, and get behind the fucking team.

Come on.
Is there anything funnier than seeing a 28 year old man calling someone a "silly little wank face" on an internet forum in an argument over computer games?

I just laughed so hard I nearly inhaled a Shreddie.

It's been suffering like football in general since it became more and more important not to lose because of the amount of money you stood to gain by finishing that one place higher..............amongst other reasons

Can't disagree with that lad. I had a seasie for 5 yrs, used to love the banter the atmosphere, the lads I used to see all the time. Priced out now and for what, fans who boo for us being top of the league? Fucking pathetic. Would be good if our supporters supported rather than turn up expecting to be "entertained". Through thick and thin people, don't fucking forget it.
You're on two per cent, two and a half, maybe even three. Depends on the usual bumflufferies. It's not about the money with you and me is it, Gal? It's the charge, it's the bolt, it's the buzz, it's the sheer fuck off-ness of it all. Am I right?

It's only really since the advent of Sky, Radio phone-ins, text messaging and the internet that the individual opinions of fans suddenly became "important". They're not, and nor are those of the shitheads who fill column foot after column foot of their worthless shitrags every fucking day of the year.

As Ronnie Moran summed up, once a game is over that's it, finished and done with. Learn from it for the next game.

The interminable tripe we see and hear after a game is no more or less than pointless crying over spilt milk.

You hear some belters at the match, although it is usually reserved for the pub I used to watch it in when I'm down here.

'That Benitez, he's a wanker him, always rotating'
'Kuyt couldn't get into Derby's first eleven'

I remember someone moaning about Alonso once and I told him he was our best passer in the past fifteen years, better than Redknapp. 'Oh, that guy off SKY?' he said, 'did he play for the Reds?'

As Barney said, the internet/Sky is one of the major reasons. The club is so accessible now that the law of averages means we attract a fair few dickheads. This isn't a slant on OOTs by the way, you get good/bad wherever you go.

Just too many stupid fuckers who listen to the media too much and form their opinions. If you got them one-on-one you'd debate them out of the pub and fucking embarass them.

Ben Afra. For fuck sake.

Tonight was one of the worst nights I've seen in a while. Negative comments from people around me from very early on in the second half with very little or no support for the team!
The booing at the final whistle was an absolute disgrace!

I'd never boo the team, never have never will. However football has changed, evolved if you like. The influx of Sky and the Internet have no doubt encouraged a fan traditionalists find hard to understand and embrace. But that's the way it is and you have to accept it. Its not 1982 anymore it's 2008 and the football fan comes in all different guises, shapes and sizes. Whether these 'fans' boo the team, clap before YNWA finishes or wear jesters hats - they will never stop me from going the match - never!

I really cannot believe the booing, not with the position we're in - however disappointing the result. Football culture is fast food culture now - Quick fix or fuck off is the mentality. Clueless 'fans' constantly being told that we haven't won the title in 19 years (and as a consequence attaching all of the blame to the current manager/players) by pundits at every opportunity doesn't help.

The booing tonight, having gone top, was really something else though. It makes me question certain things more than I ever have. To be honest, it makes the so-called 'prawn sandwich brigade' at Old Trafford look positively glorious in comparison.

The sad truth is that even if we were to win the title this season, Rafa would be no more than two trophy-less years from deserving to be sacked in the eyes of many of our 'faithful'.

We've been hammered at home. Played shite against the like of Southampton and deserved to lose. We've been as low as 10th in the table at a few points in the last decade. We've even been beaten against man u at Anfield. We've seen title hopes vanish in months like this.

But our fans still stand and sing YNWA and applaud the team off the field. Booing is not the Liverpool way. We have more class than that. FACT! We are not Newcastle or Chelsea.

Because you have to walk the storm to see the golden sky. Some of our so called 'fans' have forgotten that we never walk alone and those players never walk alone with us.

Not sure why. There's always been plenty of Reds voicing their frustration over dismal performances. Souness and his team were roundly booed on many occasions.

The biggest problem I feel is since Istanbul there's a section of fans who genuinely believe that we are special supporters and expect Anfield to be a cauldron of noise against West Ham at home, when it never has been.

Nope 90% of the fans at Anfield at league games ae season tciket holders.

If anything it's age that's the problem, all the arld bastards need to fuck it off and give the young blood a chance to inject some passion to the occasion, instead of the last 4 minutes of injury time.

kind of agree, even tha players and manager are calling for that type of atmosphere at every home game, RE Rafa in todays echo.

But if there was ever a game when the crown where up for it, it should have been this.

Season tickets still get passed round every year just not through "official" channels.
The average age of season ticket holders must be in the 90s when in reality it's alot lower.

I don't know when it died, but it did.

I have to say the rules dont change do they. Part of the old Liverpool way was passing and movement and killing teams off. Getting players the ball out wide and those players being good enough to beat the full back or get a cross in early

Its OK blaming fucking SKY or daytrippers for everything but responsibilty has to lay at the door of the players and management. We just arent as good as we used to be. Watching that tonight it was clear that quite a few of them havent the stomach to challenge for the league. Another part of the Liverpool Way

So Have I and for the same reason have turned them down.

This just adds to the problem, sporadic match goers who want to be entertained by the Kop and the team in equal measure for there 35 quid.

Age is the root of the problem and no discusion will change my view on that.

That's the modern game, mate. Saying that there's always been idiots at the match and it's a lot easier to be a 'special' set of fans when you're supporting a great team and dominating football.

I think we're weighed down by our history and until we let that go I think we'll always be searching for that old formula when it just doesn't exist anymore.

I know what our fans crave and it's quality players, good attacking football and a manager to inspire them. If they get that Anfield will be buzzing every game, trust me.

It isn't really anything to do with tonight. I wasn't there, I don't feel I can comment.

It just doesn't feel the same though, you know? There is tension in the ground, there are bad, bad shouts.

It has been on the decline for a while now but I've always felt we were that rung above most other fans.

Long time lurker, rarely a poster.

I've been thinking about this issue for a while now. I made the trip over from Vancouver, Canada, this October and was lucky enough to get a ticket to the match at Anfield against Wigan. I was shocked at the level of fan support - the booing, the moans, the anxiety. There was nothing uplifiting or encouraging of the players.

I was also lucky enough the year before to make it to Anfield for the match against Beşiktaş. How I wish each match, both EPL and CL, was like the atmosphere of that game. The Kop never sat down. The songs rang all night long.

That's what inspires players. That's why Anfield is feared. Lately, it's become a Tyneside-equivalent.

Shite again tonight, so many negative c*nts around it's untrue. Surrounded by them in the Kop. I get the impression some people are made up when we drop points, just to be proven "right", and the amount of people saying "we're not good enough"/"we're not going to win the league" on here suggests the same.

With all due respect, I don't get this. I can see Rafa's and all this 'in Rafa we trust' shite really makes me cringe; but I'd rather be top of the league like this (albeit for not much longer, I reckon) than be where Arsenal are playing their lovely brand of football (sic).

If they crave it so much why can't they be arsed giving the team a shout?

I was also lucky enough the year before to make it to Anfield for the match against Beşiktaş. How I wish each match, both League and CL, was like the atmosphere of that game. The Kop never sat down. The songs rang all night long.

I would imagine the lively away fans and winning 8-0 might have had some influence on the atmosphere that night however.

I for one am gutted at how things seem to have developed in the last few weeks.  I've noticed a change even this season.  Does anyone think that the economy has something to do with it? Regular match goers struggling for money loaning out their season ticket or normal match goers not being able to afford to go at the moment? Probably clutching at straws but just a theory.

He's a manipulative bastard. Another deliberate attempt to put pressure on people in the game, which he thinks he'll get away with because of his "standing" in the game and his fucking knighthood.

We're top of the league,we've been alot fucking worse than that in the relative recent past and haven't had to descend to the behavior of c*nts.

Its not what should go on but we're hardly Newcastle.

Everything has changed since the worlds communication improved 3000% (internet and sky)

I go on the football forum on betfair now and again and never knew until then what utter horrific total wankers football fans are. Some people on there are a total different breed of human being and you suddenly realise prisons will never ever get emptier and wars will happen until we're all dead

Instant Karmas gonna get you

The Wigan fans were just as lively, especially after Zaki's brace. Anfield was pretty quiet.
