Stevie is our best ever.. most important player.

Perhaps, but I don't like retro comaprisons.

Hopefully Lucas can pick up wherever Stevie leaves off.
Our heroic captaim is the best player in the world and irreplaceable. Lucas won't come close in any aspect of SG's game. I emphasise, in any aspect. Nowhere near.

Did anyone even contemplate Steven Gerrard ever playing for a club other than Liverpool ?

Never ever gonna happen, the lad epitomises the club.
Fuzzy memory?

Sorry but you should drop that mate. Good job no one scrutinises every decision we all contemplate in our lives and the REASONS behind them.

Our heroic captain has nothing to prove at Liverpool and you should appreciate him. He's priceless.

He didn't leave though did he?!!?!?!
Chronic asked if anyone ever contemplated Gerrard leaving the club. I showed him that Gerrard did contemplate leaving and that we all contemplated him leaving. It's the truth; no agenda.

If that was the case i wouldn't be that bothered.  Keeping Gerrard is more important to the clubs progression than a new stadium in my opinion.

Since when does answering a question with the truth mean that I don't appreciate Gerrard? He's the greatest Liverpool player I've ever seen. We're incredibly lucky to have had (and to have) a player of his calibre for his entire career, and what's more he's a local which means he embodies the club and knows exactly what expected of it. His mere presence will have been a big factor in many players deciding to join us. "Come to Liverpool and you get to play with Steven Gerrard." Huge incentive to join. Add to that the way he almost single-handedly pulled us through the last two years of Houllier's reign and has been our leader and best player for the last 7-8 years. He is an icon and legend and if not already, by the end of his career, will be considered one of the top 2/3 Liverpool players ever, and one of the greatest players ever.

3 years ago happened. In my mind, it doesn't lessen his achievements or abilites. And acknowledging it happened doesn't make me a hater or a belittler.

with all the foreigners in football nowadays you have to look at the future and wonder whether there will be any scousers in the team in 10 years due to the lack of talent coming through the academy in the past 10 seasons but whenever i get to see the reserves i see a ray of hope in the form of little Jay Spearing. Whether this lad will be the next gerrard or just an average player i don't know but i do know that in the future this lad must be the heart of our club just like gerrard and carra before him. lindfield is another player who i have looked to be a part of our plans in the future but has somewhat gone off the boil.

but the english player who seems to be the future of the team in my eyes is paul anderson. i have followed him since the first of our 2 youth cup wins a few years back and must say that he is the most 'gerrard-like' player we have coming through. in the sense that he is going to get the ball and do something special. he has been flung around on loan and is currently at notts forest which saddens me to be honest because he has potential. if rafa gambles on anderson and uses him every now and then he will develop.

Ian Callaghan said in this interview (discussed here)
"In any Liverpool era Stevie G would be the first name on the teamsheet."
Which is think is some praise indeed, coming from a player who has seen them all.

Glad Gerrard came out with this, but as others have pointed out, there's no reason in the world why he would want to leave now.

He would make my top 5 ever in our shirt.

Kenny, Digger, Souness, Rush and Gerrard, Jockie just outside.

To be fair, I knew after the last time round with the cockney c*nts he wouldn't leave now. He had his chance, and eventually told them to fuck off. If he was gonna leave, he would have done by now.

The club is bigger than any one player. When he does leave, you change the way you play, as someone like him cannot be replaced. Like when Rushie left, the way we played changed.

We don't NEED Gerrard, he's a very useful tool to have in your armoury and is amongst the best players in the world if not the best but he is not essential to Liverpool. Especially the current Liverpool squad. Don't get me wrong I would never want him to leave but I wouldn't worry if he did, I'd worry if the boss left though.
I think we do need gerrard to be honest

Stevie is our best ever.. most important player.

Sorry Kenny, Souey, Roger, ESPECIALLY Roger, Rushy, Jocky, Digger, But Stevie is the BEST.

Let's clear this up once and for all - in over 100 years of LFC Stevie G is the best.

Absolutely correct mate, well said. Stevie has dethroned Kenny in my oppinion. Without him we would be fucked.

You have posted literally nothing of substance to flame about.  Your "points", and I dread to call them that, were superficial and completely arbitrary.  Nothing you said could be argued against because nothing you said elaborated a position of any kind.

Best player we have had in years in my opinion. hes got us out the brown stuff so many times. only need to think back to Torres cross against Bolton and dying minute of aet against Atletico for some more recent examples.

whoever says we dont need him, i think he was missed today!

well happy he wants to stay cos im sure hes wanted for a load of money elsewhere. LEGEND

It's nice to read this thread and see a lot of people calling him one of our best ever. It's always seemed to me that on this forum a lot of people have slagged off Gerrard mostly because of people outside the club who have called us a one man team over the last few seasons. It's like people have been in denial and as a result have, a lot of the time, not given him the credit he deserves. He is a brilliant player and has put in some unbelievable performances and scored some vital goals for us over the years.

there are so many things wrong with this post it's unreal.
1) Steven Gerrard is one of the best players in world
2) Liverpool created him, if he was born in, say wigan for example, would he be the player he is now? of course not.
3) He is the best homegrown player in this clubs 116 year history
4) To even contemplate for a second that a mentally healthy liverpool fan would willingly sell Steven Gerrard for any sum of money is disgusting if you ask me. Does that make you a fan to name a price for one of our two homegrown players? no and the second you start naming prices for steven gerrard is the time you call it a day with football and start watching ballet.
5) The way people nowadays complain about the money footballers are on but people like this fella/twat would be pleased to see him sold on for £25 million! What does £25million buy you? a new steven gerrard? no. it buys you a good player but not a player that grew up in this city. it doesn't buy you a player who's cousin died at hillsborough supporting the club he loved. it doesn't buy you a player who would give any team in the world the same attributes that steven gerrard gives liverpool. steven gerrard is liverpool and although another player will rise after gerrard has retired, probably spearing, and gerrard is probably in the managing staff, you won't just find another steven gerrard, it takes years of growing up in Liverpool and growing up around the football cultured people of Liverpool. Money may buy you a player but it won't buy you the soul and don't you forget that.

Im not really, because i believe the team will be alot lot better by the time stevie hangs up his boots and we won't need him as much.  Yes he is a player who is irreplacable but we know we are capable of winning games without him now, and with the progress rafa is making with the team, we are becoming a better team each progressing year.  I'm glad that hes vowed to stay aswell though  :)
