Give Nemeth a go
« on: October 21, 2008, 08:42:48 PM »
Does anyone else feel that Nemeth should be given a run out this season,,, He looked amazing in pre season and I am sure he could do a job for us...

If he is the champion leagues squad, then why not give him a go tommorow night with Keane and give Kuyt a well deserved rest

Rafa would get murdered by the press if we didn't come away with a result. Deffo have Ngog on the bench but I think Kuyt has to start, especially after scoring a brace against Wigan.
Remember what Jens from Sweden said?

I will chop off my cock if we sign him [Sergio Kun Aguero] this summer.
No way will David Villa ever play for us.

Do you not think he needs a rest, he must have ran equivalant to 5 or 6 marathons in games this season alone..

The time for "giving goes to" is after we're qualified.

We have to win here. Toughest* game of the group.

Thats what I am saying don't think he should be a reserve, he should at least get on bench and maybe a few starts

Nonetheless, that's exactly what he is right now. There's plenty of similarly naive posts about giving Nemeth or Insua or Pacheco starts there. Anyway this will be locked soon

did nemeth even get a game in pre season?

Although he played a couple, it's a shame that he didn't get more due to him playing for Hungary in the U-19 Euros. Even the games he did play a part in, he was apparently knackered as he had come straight back to Liverpool from the international tournament. He didn't get a chance to really show what he could do. Hope he gets better soon as the reserves have certainly missed him and I'd like to see him get a couple of Carling Cup games or to see him on the bench for some of our "easier" League matches now that we can have 7 subs. I would have him ahead of Ngog from what I've seen.

Yea, that's an example on why people shouldn't post when drunk.

1. Nemeth only played about 15 minutes in pre-season. He spent that time away at the UEFA U-19 finals, leading Hungary to the semis.
2. After 15 minutes as a sub in preseason, he went away on international duty again, with Hungary U21 for their qualification matches - and got injured.
3. He's still out injured. He's had surgery, and it's another 1-2 months before he's back to full fitness.
4. Finally, he's not registered for the CL and hence can't play (due to the homegrown regulations - same applies to Hyypiä, Plessis, Insua and El Zhar for example).

Would be really really dumb to start playing him now. Let him play for the reserves up until chrimbo to get his fitness up then if Torres,Kuyt or Keane get injured in the second half of the season put him on the bench if we get kind draws start him.

No point throwing him in when we are winning and doing well

Oh, I don't know about any setbacks. It might as well be down to only 3 weeks remaining out by now - but adding some much needed time to build up fitness again it sure falls into the "1-2 months before he's back to full fitness" that I posted? ;)

The setback I'm talking about is the surgery. I know that he was taking longer to recover than they expected, but the last I heard was that he wouldn't need an operation. Obviously, as you say, it will take him ages to get back to "full fitness" and it's a shame for him that he's had such a long injury.

I think this thread is actually amusing.

We all know that Rafa will never blood the youngsters we have barring an absolute injury crisis... You can know this by the fact that he buys players we dont need like voronin's, bellamy's, lucas, dossena's(debatable), Ngog?etc..

Part of the reason for that is also is we never seem to put teams away. When was the last time we were 3 nil up with half hour to play(perfect time for young blood)? If I was a junior talented player, I wouldnt want to be in the liverpool reserves team as there is no incentive to play well.

As is Insua, who was on the bench.

For now, we have plenty of youth players who can fill in gaps in the squad, which means we don't need to spend as much on fringe players in the future. Whether any of these players will become world class remains to be seen, but for now this is a big bonus as it means we can produce squad players rather than buy them, and sell them on for a profit if they don't show signs of becoming brilliant.

And before anyone mentions Dossena as a squad purchase, he's not really a squad player given how much he cost and how injury prone Aurelio is.

I really don't get why people worry so much about the reserves, most of them are still very young, and I'm sure Rafa doesn't want to rush them into the first team until they're fully developed.

2 things,

1. Sitting on the bench is alot different than actaully getting some game time. Hell even I could sit on our bench and it would make 0 difference.

2. If you dont play your youngsters, they will eventually piss off to other clubs. When your 18-21 you want to play, they are some of the best years of your career.

Rafa will go to the market in January for another player I think(right winger maybe). Rightly or wrongly im not here to debate, but there is no way that any of the following will make more than a very very rare appearence this season if at all. ngog, el zhar, nemeth, plessis, pacheco. (especially if were in the hunt for the EPL come march)

Even in the carling cup he still play's people like yossi, pennant, lucas, voronin, aurellio, keane etc.... In all honesty, I would love him to play Ngog, nemeth, pacheco, plessis and insua in a carling side. I dont give a shit if we get necked 6-0 its all about time and experience, none of which you learn from sitting on the bench or running around in some back paddock in the reserves.

Oh and one last thing, who was the last player to come from our reserves team who has actually made it with us. Gerrard!. Apart from that, warnock and guthrie for there respective teams.

2. If you dont play your youngsters, they will eventually piss off to other clubs. When your 18-21 you want to play, they are some of the best years of your career.

Football is filled with examples of players who have gone off too early trying to better their careers only to realise they should have stayed where they were to begin with. I suppose the best recent instance is Antony Le Tallec. He was so desperate for first team football that it got to the point where I think his arrogance put off Benitez. Since he's gone, he's won one French Cup when he was spoken of as the sort of player that could really make an impact in football. Whether he would have gone on to be a success with us is quite obviously open for debate. But he would have certainly been better off under the guidance of Benitez than Mick McCarthy and he has recently been in the press saying he regrets moving away from us.

I'd also doubt any of Ferguson, Benitez or Wenger would agree that the years 18-21 are the 'best of your career'.
