Well, let's assume he wants to stay at the Club.  Stands to reason he probably wants to be the highest paid player, Stevie should have that current distinction as he's just signed a new one.  If Michael wants to shore up this SFX 'situation' and get behind the manager and the team, if only for another year, he could sign a one year contract extension at X quid per year.

Michael Owen has today put the record straight on all the recent speculation about his Anfield future by hitting back at the critics questioning his loyalty and insisting that contract negotiations have begun and are going well.

Owen has been shocked and angered at those who have questioned his loyalty to the club he has been at all his life in recent days after the media took an interview with Shoot magazine way out of proportion.

Owen revealed that he believes all his ambitions can be fufilled at Liverpool and that he is happy with initial contract negotations which will recommence in the new year.

"My loyalty and commitment was being questioned. I found that very upsetting. I want every supporter to know that I am as committed to Liverpool as any player at the club. I have been the same ever since I first came to Anfield as an 11-year-old. I believe my ambitions can be fulfilled at Liverpool. I find it a little insulting that, after 12 years' service, my loyalty is being questioned.

"I have signed five contracts with Liverpool and on each occasion they have been sorted out very quickly and satisfactorily. The comments which have been made about me this week have come from people who don't know the truth.

but the squad wages must run into some sort of serious money when the club turns over in excees of 100 million and their profit level is as low as 3.6%..{net profit 3,6 million}

Because Moores & Ged are twisting in the wind, Michael's agent is off somewhere, probably sent by SFX so they can wangle a big fee by somehow queering the nest and getting Michael sold to Spain, and his teammates may be starting to question his loyalty to the Club

If he's truly committed to us, he can get what he wants and ease the pressure on everyone by signing a new contract.

As far as my skills are concerned I'd have to pay to play, mate.
