Mikey is reportadly on £70,000 a week and I don't think his new deal (or lack of) has anything to do with money.

Why?

Well, let's assume he wants to stay at the Club.  Stands to reason he probably wants to be the highest paid player, Stevie should have that current distinction as he's just signed a new one.  If Michael wants to shore up this SFX 'situation' and get behind the manager and the team, if only for another year, he could sign a one year contract extension at X quid per year.

Just looking to ameliorate the situation, like.

I remember seeing Rangers accounts about 10 years ago, they had a break down of the wages on there but didn't name the salary to the player so it was pure guess work, would think LFC's accounts are much the same.

Can't see him playing right midfield myself.

I don't understand how speculating on Michael's motivation, or his current/future salary 'ameliorates' the situation  ???

Will save you the trouble biff:

From LFC365.com November 16th 2003

Quote
Michael Owen has today put the record straight on all the recent speculation about his Anfield future by hitting back at the critics questioning his loyalty and insisting that contract negotiations have begun and are going well.

Owen has been shocked and angered at those who have questioned his loyalty to the club he has been at all his life in recent days after the media took an interview with Shoot magazine way out of proportion.

Owen revealed that he believes all his ambitions can be fufilled at Liverpool and that he is happy with initial contract negotations which will recommence in the new year.

Setting the record straight today: "After Steven Gerrard signed his new contract, it was inevitable all the attention would turn to me and my future.

"The stories which followed resulted from some comments which I gave to a magazine several months ago. Some of the words I never even said and the rest were taken completely out of context.

"They have led to a lot of false claims that I will walk out on Liverpool if we don't get into the Champions League. It has all got completely out of hand.

"My loyalty and commitment was being questioned. I found that very upsetting. I want every supporter to know that I am as committed to Liverpool as any player at the club. I have been the same ever since I first came to Anfield as an 11-year-old. I believe my ambitions can be fulfilled at Liverpool. I find it a little insulting that, after 12 years' service, my loyalty is being questioned.

"I have signed five contracts with Liverpool and on each occasion they have been sorted out very quickly and satisfactorily. The comments which have been made about me this week have come from people who don't know the truth.

"I wouldn't normally comment on gossip and speculation but I felt I should put the record straight for all Liverpool fans. I am certain 99 per cent of them understand the situation anyway. But, as usual, these stories have been fuelled by people that simply don't know the facts.

"The initial talks were very positive and encouraging and they will continue next year. There is no immediate rush. Don't forget, I still have 18 months left on my contract.

"I am not panicking and I know the Liverpool manager, chairman and chief executive are not panicking either. I cannot help it if some people are jumping to the wrong conclusions. There are plenty of good reasons why I should want to stay at Liverpool.

"Of course, I want to play in the Champions League but I am no different to anyone else at Liverpool. The whole club needs it because of the profile and the money it generates. But I have never said I will leave if we don't qualify next season.

"As far as speculation linking me with Spanish clubs is concerned, I cannot comment about that because I don't know anything about it.

"But I have never categorically stated I want to play abroad. A few years ago I said it is an option I might want to consider at some time in the future. But I am still only 23 and, hopefully, I have a lot of time left in my career to weigh up those kind of possibilities."

Why is it when someone asks (imo) a reasonable question (and I think someone on this board has a reasonable idea about what the players make) that so many people here just want to have a go?

Instead of waiting for an informed answer, some arsehole will just come out with 'bollocks thread' or a wise crack of some sort.

Humour is fine, but these are tragic times if you bleed every time the Club takes another blow.

Why do I want to know what our top players make?

Because Moores & Ged are twisting in the wind, Michael's agent is off somewhere, probably sent by SFX so they can wangle a big fee by somehow queering the nest and getting Michael sold to Spain, and his teammates may be starting to question his loyalty to the Club

If he's truly committed to us, he can get what he wants and ease the pressure on everyone by signing a new contract.

As far as my skills are concerned I'd have to pay to play, mate.

Do you think we're a club in crisis?  Do you think his signing might ease that crisis?  Are you a gobshite or just a blind loyalist?

From the times online..... dunno how accurate though.

 The bottom line

Top earners

Owen £80,000 net of image rights, Gerrard £72,000, Kewell £61,500

Wages ranking

2nd

Total wage bill £56m

No we are not a club in crisis.  Leeds are a club in crisis.  We are a club in a poor run of form and an unfortunate injury crisis.  The clubs finances are the best we have possibly had in our history.

You think this thread is about finances?  It's about getting the bastard signed!

Not a club in crisis?

We've never had our fans so divided, our biggest star won't sign, the principal shareholder is talking about re-thinking his position, our manager is battling a horrendous spate of injuries whilst fighting to keep his job, we've never been this low in the table this late in the season, we're on the verge of getting slaughtered by Chelsea and falling even lower.

Why am I wasting my time on you?

Do us both a favour and ignore my posts. I'll reciprocate (look it up).  Thanks.

I bet you were one of these who thought we were going to get hammered 5-0 by the mancs at Old Trafford 2 seasons back after a poor run of form.  Nice to see that you have some optimism there.  I just hope that passes through to the players tonight ::)
