Finally over the 40 point mark, so we should just about be safe from relegation for another year. We need to start building for next years battle to stay in the league as soon as the transfer window opens though.

Gutted. Blackburn got Sam Allardyce. We've left it too long to sack Benitez. Can we afford to tempt Steve Bruce to us? Mind you, Curbishley is looking for a job isn't he? Wonder if a call to 6-0-6 would get things moving?

Match today was poor. Bolton were obviously not trying. They looked tired after all their European football this season and have obviously settled for just a top 6 finish instead of pushing on for that CL place which we can only dream about. Rafa's selections just keep getting increasingly bizarre - 442 with two strikers who haven't scored in their entire careers, no Gerrard on the right wing, no Mascherano and no Torres.

I know we ought to be safe from relegation but 2009 is shaping up to be yet another year of mediocrity. We need to spend big in January if we're to hope for anything like a good run at a UEFA cup spot but I'll settle for the Intertoto.
