A quick note to those involved in SOS
« on: September 15, 2008, 03:31:34 PM »
Saturday's march got a reasonable amount of coverage on the Fox Soccer Channel over here in America, with SOS namechecked a couple of times and the reasons behind the march outlined.

Keep up the good work!
You sure you want to do this?

I hope you like the taste of bleu cheese.

Excellent it was on Fox, which has links to Hicks. Well done, all. Thanks, Col.

Just a thought but can we replace banners that say "Yanks out" with ones that say "Hicks/Gillete out"??

If you know little about the situation and saw those banners, especially in the US,it would make us look like anti-american peasants..which we're not.

Let's be specific about exactly who we want out.

Good point.
those people were scared off by the distress chatter and the organised internet terrorism campaign that was directed against people involved.

Cos to anyone who's uninformed on the precise details of this saga that's what a load of people carrying banners that say "yanks out" look like..

If we want mainstream coverage let's be specific and draw attention to the exact people that we're demonstrating against rather than carry a banner which doesn't even mention their names.Everyone in Liverpool knows who we're on about but you have to think what would those who aren't informed,or live in the US think if they saw that.

the yanks out thing is a bit misleading to the uninformed..
for the most part.. americans will see it and think.. well screw you guys.. and ignore the point of the story

id agree 100% with donniebrasco..

incidentally.. i live in the states now.. so its not a completely uninformed view (and I'm originally from Walton.. moved over here 4 years ago, before some tit decides to try to be funny about me not being a real fan cause im not from the area - you know who you are :P)

Yeh it is and shouldn't people who watch it see a banner that mentions Hicks/Gillete specifically and not "yanks out"??..that will just look anti-american and do little to help US support for the cause. It might well have the opposite effect.

The people who the banners are aimed at know their reference. I'm not in the education game, if inquisitive Americans can't be bothered finding out the details I'm not really bothered. And if they form the opinion that I'm a peasant based on a banner well that just about sums it up really.

Hmm..the people who the banners are aimed at don't give a fuck about your protest tho..They live abroad and can ride it out. Those Americans who are inquisitive will likely be put off by the banners that say "Yanks out"..so fuck all gets achieved either way.

Whats so hard about making a banner that says "Gillett/Hicks out" as opposed to "Yanks Out"

No extra hard work at all really. Just as well that Bill Gates isnt interested really.  :)

Just a quick note to those arsed about the difference it would make if we had Hicks/Gillett Out instead of Yanks Out on a couple of banners:

How many angels can you balance on the head of a pin?

Seriously, stop finding fault in literally everything we try to do and either get on with it or leave us alone. That march exceeded our greatest expectations, the work involved by a team of volunteers, most with families and nearly all with "day jobs" to get on with, was phenomenal. How do you think it was publicised and allowed to happen at all? Where do you think all those big, uniquely Liverpool, banners "appeared" from (for those not at the march, a selection of the best "wavers" were down the front of the Kop during YNWA)? And after all that you think we're going to go running around policing what people choose to bring along? Honestly, have you got the foggiest?

Yet another thread by someone trying to give us a bit of credit gets derailed by the anonymous internet fault finders. Do you realise the draining effect this has on the volunteers at the heart of SoS? Do you give a fuck? Do you do it on purpose or what?

The End.

apparently you dont know the difference between whining like a little girl (which is what you are doing), and constructive criticism.  If I had posted that it should be changed for no good reason, or i had a good reason and just didn't say.. instead just put something like 'change it.  The End.' then i'd agree.. that would be a waste of time.  to make a point that 'yanks out' can seem misleading, which can only be counter productive in a time when we're trying to gain support instead of pissing off potentially millions of people.

yet another thread with people whining about a thread.. but.. i'll answer your questions:

Q: Do i realise the draining effect this has on the volunteers at the heart of SoS?
A: If making a suggestion which might help the cause is draining, they need a holiday

Q: Do I give a fuck
A: If I didn't, I personally wouldn't have bothered replying to this at all.

Q: Do I do it on purpose (or what) ?
A: Do I have an opinion on purpose?  yep.. I'm allowed one just like every other liverpool fan is allowed one.

On a bit more of a serious note.  What some of the whiners in this thread are going on about is utterly ridiculous.. having an opinion, or shock horror, even trying for constructive criticism shouldnt' be viewed as putting SoS down.  The march was a huge success and I applaud every single member that marched.. i was unable to as I'm in the states.. I'm 100% behind the movement and I wish I could have been there.. but lighten the fuck up.. just because someone else has an idea doesn't mean you have to freak out like we're putting the screws on SoS
