No Agger? Still working his way back, hope he's ok though.

The Reds XI is:

Reina, Arbeloa, Dossena, Carragher, Hyypia, Benayoun, Kuyt, Gerrard, Plessis, Torres, Keane.

Subs: Cavalieri, El Zhar, Aurelio, Ngog, Skrtel, Agger, Alonso.
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

Alonso had dead leg so can't be 100%.

No surprises for me really. Thought Agger might start, but not surprised Alonso has been benched for this. Going to be a physical game.

Agger isn't starting because Rafa needs a cb who can head the ball at a guess.

Balotelli, Falcao, Cavani...

I'll be shocked if it's anyone other Etoo. Etoo or no-one. Simples.

In fact, I'll do you all a favor and ban myself from the January transfer window forum if we get anyone other than Etoo.

Yawn.

Different asking him to play 20 minutes if desperately needed to starting a physical game with a dead leg.

Gerrard wasn't fit enough to start on Weds but he was on the bench.

Why is agger and alonso not starting???

Somenting to do with how they played on Wednesday and the reaction in training on Thursday & Friday.

You have to admire Rafa really, he nearly always always gives his critics amumition should we fail, the thing is we rarley do.

He's probabley thinking sunderland will play long balls, hence Hyppia & it looks like alonso has asked to leave, so why bother or run the risk of him getting injured?

Looks like a flat 4-4-2 to me.

Surprised Hyypia is starting. No Pennant on the bench leaves us with zero width on the right.

Should scrape this 1-0.
If he retires I'll eat my fucking cock.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will be fit to lead them into the new season after recovering from a thigh injury.

There are doubts over Xabi Alonso and Yossi Benayoun, but Fabio Aurelio and Martin Skrtel are back in contention.

It's obvious. Sunderland to will play a long ball game, and we need strength in the air.

People should be happy that Rafa is showing so much faith in a youngster like Plessis.
It wouldn't be Liverpool if we didn't do it the hard way... ask Gareth Southgate.

Not very surprising. Surely Hyypiä's aerial ability can be handy against Sunderland? And if the Xabi transfer-reports+injury are correct it's not a shocker that he isn't playing.

I'm more surprised that he's got Ngog + El Zhar on the bench instead of Voronin+Pennant though. Especially as he registered Voro instead of Ngog for CL.
